He was so promising when he started. Imran Khan spoke very highly of him. This guy could bowl real pace, swing the new ball, reverse swing the old ball, yet after 34 tests ends up with 84 wickets at an atrocious bowling average of 50+!!!!!

Sami is probably the only specialist bowler I've seen who averages more than 50 with the ball in Test cricket. The guy did have the gift of express pace, but don't really understand why he went downhill so fast. I mean a specialist bowler with an average of more than 50 with the ball would be like a specialist batsman averaging less than 10 with the bat.

He's been however selected for the upcoming Test series against Australia. let's see how he faces off.

sami was very fast, it was his mistake that he didnt use 2 bowl within line and length that made him xpensive n less wicket taking, im glad that hes gone bcoz everyone including waqar n imran tried 2 guide sami but even after that he couldnt get better, so its better 4 u sami 2 sit back in home n learn how 2 ball with discipline n then come back, only speed is not all, u also need thinking n line length, i hope he comes back as he had some very fast speed!!

Well, while he used to have express pace (his fastest clocked delivery was 97mph or so), he was hit-and-miss.

One day he'd turn up and deliver unplayable balls in the high 90's, the next day he'd bowl 4 no balls in an over or something.

His bowling average in tests is very poor (just under 52 i think). That's not good enough unless you average 4 wickets per innings.

Now he plays with Sussex but only bowls around 80-85mph avg speed, probably so he can control his line and length more.
