  • It would be nice if people could moderate their comments. The immaturity of some people posting is only too evident in the 4-letter-word flame wars that inevitably start...

The Windstar was rated "Good" by the IIHS in 1995-1998 and "Acceptable" in 1999-2003 (due in part to the fourth door weakening the structure). It was a good performer for its time in this test.

  • Ya know arguing with you is like arguing to a wall. It does not make sense and goes no where so i'm done. It was fun but i'm done. You seemed to have dug a hole so deep that you are doomed to live in it forever. Your patriotic mind is a bit out of wack. 85% of all American cars are pieces of shit compared to the worlds cars. Maybe in USA standards they are amazing but world standards they are shit. Face it or not your choice. But seriously i hope you die a slow death. Very slow.

  • Uh your job is to go on here preaching lies and fucking the tail end of a chevy van. Fucking kill yourself. Ford quallity is a fucking joke and everyone knows it. Your a GM fan you should know the terribleness of ford. Your a twisted tard. You really need to die. And you know nothing of my life fucker. Go jump off a bridge.

  • Hood had to be replced, couple of plasic pipes and hoses had to be replaced. Motor mounts had to be replaced. It busted the power steering pump and the brake fluid cotainer. And thats not even some of the worst shit thats just one off the top of my head and the funniest. So uh Ford Quallity.... thats a joke. Don't even get me started on some fucked up chevys and buicks that we have had.

  • Yea uh go to google and type in 10 worst cars today and click a couple links you will see. Chysler has good engines in their vehciles but they are structuraly thrown together. Fords and Gm motors make the most fucked up shit inside of them. One time when i had a mercury sable at the shop, we started up the motor after changing the oil and the fucking motor jumped up and hit the hood. Denting it up about 3-4 inches wanna know why? One of the motor mounts broke on it causing it to jump.

  • Windstar=ford piece of shit!?! Fucker i work on cars for a living Toyotas and few other companys are some of the only cars that take punishment and keep on going. When they break or get fucked with. Fords are the ultimate pieces of shit out there followed by GM vehilces and Suzuki and so on as where Toyota being the least piece of shit. There is nothing like a Toyota. To be hoest out of all the American vehicles most of chryslers vehicles are the only decent ones. But other than that no.

  • all car companys should go back to there older designs it would save more lives and destroy these suv's that are killing us cuz are cars are made of plastic. i would enjoy crashing into this van with my 61 caddy. cuz i know nothing would happen and i can replace a bumper and a grill instead of losing a life.

  • That was good for its time back in 97/98 when it was tested.

  • That may look suckie, but IIHS rated it "Good"...

  • well go look the pontiac trans am and you will see that this would be a better choice LOL

  • You are all retarded. This vehicle (1998 Windstar) got good on all categories for the IIHS test and 5-stars on all NHTSA tests. Airbag stiff? It's not a pillow. And anyone in an accident who's stiff is lucky he's not really stiff...the dead kind.

  • I was in a 98 windstar and was in a wreck last friday (7-27-07), now I am a sore MF. I will NEVER OWN ANOTHER FORD EVER AGAIN

  • That wasn't too good. The door buckles, which means that the passenger compartment was intruded into. And the airbag looked very stiff. I would rate this car a 7/10.

  • Hey?At least it's not like crap in a Chevy Venture.MAKES ME LAUGH!!!Ha Ha!!Never as good as a Toyota Sienna

  • i have a northwoods and they dont look to safe im SCARED!!!

  • 1 star again?

  • The big three (including Ford who make this and more garbage) are just an embarrassing bunch of idiots. They (the big three) made some excellent products (in the past) and have had ample time to LEARN from the rest of the world namely the Asian community. But no, they decide to do things their way and now they look like a bunch of idiots just interested in filling there pockets. You had your chances and BLEW IT.

  • Umm... The windstar actually got a 5 star rating from the NHTSA... soo although it looks bad, it was relatively safe... unlike the pontiac trans sport and chevy montana.

  • the Chevy, Pontiac and Ford all got 5 star "FRONTAL" crash test ratings from the less realistic 35 mph full frontal crash test that the NHTSA does. The "offset" test is much more realistic and the windstar did just as bad in this test as the other two and in this case out performed toyota

  • In europe, we use the NCAP rating - Not the perfect system but it is capable enough to show how bad the buckling could get. We use a static offset crash test at 40mph. In the UK, the worse cars were the Rover 100, the Vauxhall Sintra (a GM car) and the Chrysler Voyager.

  • By static, I mean the wall doesn't move or collapse.. incidentally, look at the crash test for the Rover 75 - a massive contrast to the Rover 100. Incidentally - this is NOT a BMW chassis, the design and build had progressed too far for that to be economically viable.

  • Oops - I meant 'doesn't move just collapse'. I never really agreed with this since it would be better to see how the car reacts against a tree rather than say another car. The R75 is a BIG contrast to the R100. But will the Chinese built 'Roewe 750/MG 7' react in the same way.. Check it..

    watch?v=2wWKqZjt58E

  • Except this is not an NHTSA test. This is an IIHS frontal offset test.

Use data from both the NHTSA and the IIHS to determine overall safety.

  • What is the NHTSA test? Do they do the same offset test we do in Europe (NCAP) Im pretty sure that the safest cars were able to withstand intrusions and buckling by 1998.. The Vauxhall Sintra was the most notablably dangerous car to do the same as this (was a rebadged GM car).

  • The NHTSA is short for the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, a United States government agency.

The NHTSA performs a variety of collisions, but not some of the ones conducted by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety.

For instance, while the IIHS and NCAP perform offset frontal into a collapsible barrier, the NHTSA performs full frontal into a solid wall.

There are vehicles that do well in the NHTSA tests but flunk the IIHS tests and vice-versa.

  • Nice?

  • ouch

  • This was the orininal Windstar

  • crunch

  • nice
