I couldn't agree more with you, ccoffman25, I've seen Margriet Buchberger in person too and it's an enormous joy to hear and see such a marvellous singer who sings straightly from her soul. This is not about not respecting other people's opinions, but rather standing up for a fine artist who's being addressed quite agressively and badly founded. Not that an artist of this level would need any defence!

I am sorry but this is absolutely legal what she does - although also in Händels time happened really often that the singer ornamented the da capo and he was really angry - but in that case because he couldn't recognise his own music anymore :) So there was never really author's sake :) we have only our own taste to decide whether we like or not.

America did not exist when Beethoven, Bach, Handel and Mozart lived. if you compared those composers to what Europeans were doing in the late 19th and early 20th century Europe wouldn't look that hot either , although admittedly better than the U.S. (Mahler vs Gershwin).

As for performers, Arleen Auger was an excellent example of a very talented American soprano. So obviously is Buchberger

Wie oft habe ich mir als Barockmusiker bei meinen ewigen Messias-Muggen nicht so eine Sopranistin gewünscht..So eine herrliche Stimme, mít Stilgefühl, großer Musikalität und wunderschöner Gestaltung..Und nicht "heruntergenudelt" wie so oft..Eine große Künstlerin die weit über die Noten steht und einfach herrlich und mitreißend musiziert. Gerne mal die ganze Arie!
