Hi Everyone ! This song seems very nice but unfortunately it's very hard for me to understand Punjabi. plz I will be thankful if anyone can translate it in english ~
Can I go to Jagjit Singh's concert. Life sucks. There will be never a ghazal singer like him. Ghazal is a dying art and new generation barely knows about Punjabi or Urdu literature. Our art is going to die.
the people who endorses fairness creams..should learn something from this. centuries ago our poets wrote about the beauty of dark skin...amazing song.
:'( gosh this sucks..there has been so much truth and sincerity in his voice always..love you Jagjit ji..may your beautiful soul rest in peace. Definitely doomsday for ghazal lovers like me..thank you for the beautiful music that will live forever..thank you for touching our lives with your magical voice <3
Contrary to common belief, Laila wasn’t really fair. The poem talks about Majnu’s reaction, when someone states that Laila is black. To this he replies, “Your eye hasn’t been able to see her real beauty.“. He then goes on to say “Although Ved and Quran are nothing but white papers, the real value comes with the ink, which is black in color“. Ghulam Farid closes the stanza by saying that if he has fallen for someone, then the color matters no more.
@RubberDucksPWN dude who the fuk has forced you to come listen to this music if you don;t like it just fck off and let the rest of us enjoy. There is something called taste ever heard of it?
I'm listening to this, and wondering what will happen to music, when these great souls leave this world. I grew up with my parents listening to this and now I look at what I have as my generation's singers and they are garbage compared to these great singers....
It's great that you like and love this music. really!! but: I remember that some people said the same things about these singers back then that they were changing and creating garbage music. So unfortunitly it has been like this during all times that new things scares/frightens some people. in other words evrything that creates now is new and uncomfortable but it's gets some kind of (normality feeling) after a while. thanks folks
@toradhe, I understand your fears. However, it is not all true. People who lived hundered years ago may have crossed the same path as we do now, thinking that there may not be any good singers or musicians in future. But look, now we have Jagjit and others like him. Do you think the same may happen in future too. Not exactly Jagjit or Mohd Rafi or Kishore but someone new will born who will give audience of their time the same feeling as these great souls do now to you, me and many others :)

@toradhe an art is defined by the person as well his or her talent to perform that art..it is very obvious that a person of his stature cant be seen again but by saying this you are not making justice to those who have been performing very well these days..old is gold but new is never a garbage sir..i respect your feelings for jagjit sahab..but i think this comparison is not good

Kis-wal akheya we Majnu-nu, O teri Laila disdi kaali we!
Majnu ne jawab ditta, O teri ankh wekhan-waali we!
Je tu dekhe meri ankh naal, Teri surat na jaaye samhaali we!
Ved bhi chitta ter Quran bhi chitti, Vich shyahi rakh ditti kaali we!
Ghulam Farid jitthe ankhiyaan lagiyaan, Utthe kya gori, kya kaali we!

The opening couplet is Written by Shaikh Gulam Fareed... Early Urdu Sufi poet... Jagjit Singh renders it so effortlessly ..

Mediocrity heard repeatedly, over a long time becomes nostalgic. It is still mediocre. Can Anu Malik become Naushad in 20 years ?
