  • How much does these Watches worth nowadays?

  • I have an Elgin from 1902, was on of my grandparent's- it still works- serial # is 9499395 :-)

  • important because if not done by a compentent watch man ,more harm can be done.

I would also suggest not running the watch very often than needed (until) you have it repaired ,as more harm than good will result! Please do not be upset with my remarks ,and I hope you will take them as a voice saying (been there done that) because I have! Good luck, and in closing I can tell you your watch was made between 1902-1903--serial # 9811008

  • contuined!!! Because its scratched real bad,and takes away from the nice dial !Keep the old one as the original ,but a new one will make all the difference in the world! Notice how the balance wheel (the wheel that turns with the motion)

is not swinging smoothly, and that if you look at it as it turns (from the side) you will see it has a wobble,(it should not) Also get in the habit of always setting the time by moving the hands forward,NOT backward . Having it restored properly is very --

  • Your pocket watch does warrant a few comments if you don't mind! One have it cleaned by a GOOD watch man,as I can tell its not keeping good time by the setting of the fast and slow indicator on the movement! Its way to one side ,and if running properly it should be toward the middle of the slow and fast indicator. Second it is a low jewel count watch ,most likely a 7 jewel ,not that that's bad in itself, but it would be better if it was at "least" 15 jewels. Have the crystal changed!

  • @stuballs42 Oh wait were these comments for me? lol I never got them you should've hit the reply button at least on the first comment. I planned on just having the scratches removed on the original crystal, and yes I know it doesn't keep good time but hey it's over a century old and only gains 5min a day. (Day as in 6AM to 6AM not 6AM to 7PM.) The watch it self is really clean on the inside so not really opened much. Lastly it's too late for the don't use it much since I use it all the ...

  • @stuballs42 ...time, but so far it seems that using it has made it keep better time as the springs get unstiff after years of sitting. The watch running though isn't what will destroy it, it's my bad luck... I was taking it out of my pocket when the chain loop popped off and it fell, thankfully it didn't break the face or crystal but it did nock the ratchet for the mainspring under the gear and the spring unwound so I took it apart and put the ratchet back on and put it back together slowly...

  • @stuballs42 Just noticed that I kept saying pinions when I meant shafts.
