Couple of observations: Ava had a great walk--among other things. James Mason knew the value of using a cigarette as a prop. And poor Cyd Charisse looked nervous as all get out.

The look that Ava gives Cyd at 5:08 into the scene is to die for. If looks could kill...

Ava was a scene stealer, no doubt, it's hard to take your eyes off of her in any movie she is in, and she is very good in this. This is a very good movie, just watched it last night. All the actors are good in it, and the scene between Ava and Stanwyck, two femme fatales, is delicious. I urge you to rent it.

@SoCalGal52 There was some real animosity between Stanwyck and Gardner in real life that may show in that scene .A few years earlier, Ava made a movie with Stanwyck's husband, Robert Taylor, and they had an affair. Word got around about it, and supposedly Stanwyck hired detectives to keep tabs on her husband and that "Gardner woman," as she called her

@lray1948 That's very interesting trivia, thank you. Not the smartest of casting to put these two women together after Ava had an affair with Stanwyck's man. Both were very obviously strong headed women and I'm sure Barbara was no one you would want to mess around with. It sure does make the movie and the tension all that much better though doesn't it?
