  • I can't "Practice and N_joy" with just Virtual DJ only. :(

  • @Apapilootoe So get a real set?

  • Dude... You should give DJ lessons :) I'm not a DJ but I am interested in learning the craft on vinyl, and your videos have really helped me get an insight into some of the basics and mixing. Loving these scratch tutorials, I really want to get myself a pair of decks and a mixer right now... For a complete and utter newb to DJing, what setup would you recommend?

  • it looks daft... daft punk!

  • @ljmdrummer fail.

  • question what track are u using for scratch

  • @3:37 I move my hand and get in a rhythem & good practace doing something else, it helps my wrist when im skratching

  • Hi, this question has nothing to do with this video but i was just lookin for you cause i know you will get back to me asap... whats the best way to film a dj mix.. do i film with the cam and put the mix into computer then mix the 2 files once i am done?? im thinking of using cubase 5 for the audio because i use that for makin tracks... i also use windows movie maker.. is there a better way of doin this? thanks..

  • press 88888 hes flipping us off :(

  • so does your vinyl have the sound of a scratch on it already?

  • press Play video, and then press 6666

  • great vids, i had a really basic knoledge of scratching before but you have helped me get up to spped and swith things up, thanks

  • Ellaskins you rock brotha!!! You've helped me a lot and i'm sure many viewers, keep up the good work!!

  • Awesome tutorials. Thanks! :)

  • Hi dude

why do you use not a crossfader?

  • great vid Ellaskins, but what about scratching with a jog wheel, like mixdecks? I would really like to learn. Do you have a vid for that? I want to thank you for all your advice. I have been djaying for 10years now and doing all weddings. Mixing with ramp in/out and fade in/out music mixes, sometimes beatmatch fun. Since I have watched your vids, I have learned so much quick tips and want to thank you for all your hard work. Keep Mixing and God Bless!

  • I am wondering why you are using the channel's fader instead of the crossfader? Does that mixer not have curve adjustment?

  • @abubacar why not use the channels fader?

  • @Siricko14 I just figured it would be easier to move the cross fader since you only have to move it a tiny bit if you have it adjusted to do so, but with the fader you have a pretty big distance to go. Dunno i was just curious.

  • @abubacar yeah thats true, but u can also have curve adjustment on channels as well, just whether u prefer moving ur hand up/down or sidetoside lol

  • 2:21 accent fail

  • U REALLY SHOULD GET SOME KIND OF AWARD FOR MAKINGG THIS. FOR REAL, BEST THINGS I HAVE EVER SEEN!!!

  • @kaliflax he's only pulling the record back not the platter. he ment to not pull the platter back because it will mess up the motor, its ok to pull the record back

  • Didnt he say to never slow it down? i dont understand why he'd say never slow it down with the platter moving then slow it down? im not hating, just wondering..

  • @kaliflax he's only pulling the record not the platter. pulling the platter back would mess up the motor. its ok to pull the record itself back

  • Great video as always. Very helpful. Thanks

  • got no flow

  • guys plzthumbup this comment

DJ HAHN FROM LINKIN PARK USES VINYL...DJ TOXIC USES VINYL....DJ RAVIK USES VYNIL.......KEEP VINYL ALIVE...SCREW CDJ

  • thank you very much for the help, really helped me gettin started with scratching

    we want more tutorials!!!

  • GREAT VIDS , HELPED ME ALOT :)

  • Thanks for showing begginer things! :)

  • I WANT TO SCRATCH NOOOW! =)

  • Haha at the end when he is using hand movements to demonstrate using the fader it looks like he is jerking off lulz

  • anybody know good scratch music ?

  • @TheWweqwe DJ Qbert ! check out wavetwisters - the first scratch musical complete with space battles and giant robots

  • where can i find sound THAT sound effect at ? what is it called ??

  • @djyeeaah Do you use serato?

  • @djyeeaah :The"AHHH" sound !

...found on almost ANY tool record...

  • the ZIP! I love that cliche! LOL

  • can you please make a video for a complete novice on where to start? i really would like to start, but i have no idea what to buy, where to go, or anything. i dont know any basics. that would help ALOT.

  • explains well ...

  • let me give you an advice... find something else to do... u suck man!

  • @andymasochist - Your comment seems vague, but in your defense it does suck when some self indulgant DJ who just learned is just masturbating for the audience and oversaturating or upstaging the rest of the music. In my opinion it should happen incidently as part of beat juggling and cutting and playing a role in the overall rhythm.

  • is there a specific name for this "bird call"?

  • where can u get turntables like that?

  • google knows

  • got my set of tech 12's from kijiji. Local guy sold them to me. Try to find a set in your area.

  • I like this video Very good tutorial and easy to understand, I was at best-buy earlier and was wonderinf if stanton are good turntables their like $200 a table and like $125 for the fader part. Got pumped about djing hit me back for an answer want to learn really bad, huge Hip-Hop fan.

  • iv got sum stanton str8-150s and they really gud man, more torque than the technics and cheaper too

  • very cool!!!!

  • thank you for the help: your ace man

  • yeah yeah!

  • whats that noise or song called that you scratch at 1:10

  • Its a bird call i believe

  • good scratching. but a beat like that doesnt need scratches.

  • People can do stuff differently you know...

  • yeah and im only expressing my opinion you know...

  • damn my man is nasty! OOHA OOHA keep it up my man!

  • would of been better with the fader though, great tutorial none the less, the thing about the zips true, it's good practice!!

  • scratching is great!!!! i love it, it's one of my fav things about djing

  • Hi Elias! Please stop using this line-fader! Use the crossfader with very sharp curve to get better sounds. Your fader must "on and off" the sound, that's all. Greetz.

  • talented but wrong tune........ or wrong scratch style

  • thank you for the best dj tutorials on youtube

  • Oh an Jonny go down to your local record store and see if they have any skipless sample records, its just one sample on the whole vinyl this also helps

    SWEET AS BRO

    Kind Regards

DJ Jarry The Maori from New Zealand

  • This is for Jonny,

    buy some cheap stanton needles

turn the counter weight around the other way & push it right to end, also i check the anti skate so theres not to much force pushing against the grooves on ur record keep it centre, by doin this, it wil put a bit more pressure on your needles an vinyl, i wouldnt recommend doing this on good needles but its for a good cause haha, watch your hand control aswel nice and smooth youl get use to it, it all takes time hope this helps bro

  • Hi, ive been playing a few years now and whenever i try and attempt scratching, my needle always jumps, ive got ortofon concorde cartridges / needles and i can only assume im either using too much force or my tonearm and counter weight is not setup correctly? Can anyone give me any help with this, what am I doing wrong, the neddle always seems to jump off the groove im scratching, its so annoying and its prevented me from taking scratching any further which i would really like to learn how 2do

  • who's this guy whats he had less rabbit lets have it

  • Haha listen to 3:41 thats exactly how the beginning of the Super Mario Bros. 3 - Underworld theme sounds like.

    watch?v=UxeuKOOsPXw

  • what movie is it that I should watch?

  • Hi mate would you be intrested in teaching at a few youth centres in kensington and chelsea in london?

  • im a complete noob wat kind of equipment should i buy

  • Do you want to use vinyl or cdj or digital midi controllers?

I know that I used a pair of used denon DN-S1000's and a DN-X120 mixer for my first set up. On eBay the CDJ's ran about 400 total and the mixer was about 170. Get yourself nice headphones, whatever you do.

  • some really shit ones off ebay or a car boot or anything to see if u like it if u can stick it for 6 months get a save on for some pioneers

  • I don't agree at all. That's a complete waste of money. If you have a few hundred to spare for something you'll only use for practicing purposes for a few months, then will be obsolete, then sure. But I wouldn't recommend it to anyone.

  • so what exactly would you reccomend :S

  • Well, if you're into the idea of turntablism, I really couldn't help you out, 'cause I'm a CDJ man myself. I just get into the scratching basics... the setup really depends on the individual.

  • @JBAgent007 just make sure it has pitch control so that you can beat mix (or beat match as some ppl call it) some record players dont have a slider for pitch control they only have a button for 33 and 45 rpm...

  • bro buenos tutoriales si quisiera empesar en estre rollo como seria mejor empezar...

  • started having a wank at 3;30 you mug

  • @drugdaddy LMAO

  • eii broo thanks

one question i have the djx700 and is four channel and i want to play in each channel one song so i can buy two usb interfaces(American Audio Audio Genie Pro USB Phono Interface) and connect the four channel or i need to buy one interface with four outputs, one more thing do anyone know about MIDI to rca cables? please help

  • i cant see how midi to rca would work as midi is just data, not sound.

  • buy one with four inputs. If they are all on the same USB channel there is less chance of 1)overheating and 2) wear on the USB interface. If you wanna go midi to RCA get something like an M-audio fastrack pro or Audio 8 DJ from NI or SL3 from serato. That's your best bet for integration. If you're going to go digital, that's the way.

  • lool

ok, now i just spend around 200euro's for jackets with a zipper:P great vid though;)

  • Lol. wtf...

  • lol jonathan! Nice how you move your hat from right to left (or anticlockwise as you brits say) during pts 1,2, and 3 of this demo. thanks again for the tips!

  • fuck off loser, this dude has good tutorial vids hes helping people what the hell r u doing with urself asides from posting loser hater comments?

  • Prick.

  • I do mix trance and house ,not much scratching people do with this music,i think scratch skills better is practice with slow BPM like hip hop,rap and rnb music.what do you think guys?

  • Well I think it's actually also good with higher Bpm's like drum and bass, hardcore and that kinda styles, but also hip hop, rap, and rnb and that stuff ;-)

  • yeah shouldn't you be using a crossfader?

  • Így én is tudok mixelni:)) Illetve scratchelni XD..

  • do you not have a cross fader as that is mainly used for scratching

  • would it not be more appropriate to play a hip-hop tempo beat in the background?

  • you love silly accesessories on your head dont you? but you a very good guy, keep up the work

  • I practice this!!:D

  • cool video. Im asking for some help tho. ive bin interested in buying a turntable for a while cus it seems like a really cool thing to learn and i think id enjoy it. i have about 200$ saved up but i have noo idea where to start or what to buy as a beginer and even how to learn. soo if anybody has any advice pls help. :]

  • numark belt drive turntables and probly a numark 2 channel mixer, for a begginer

  • Why the hell would you ever recommend belt drive numarks to someone? Thats just a waste of money

  • ino theyre crap but he was a begginer and u dont want to spend alot on your first anything i case u turn out to be shit!

  • ehh, i guess, I would recommend just some used technics, it wouldnt be too much more than new numark belt drive ones

  • technics are like £300 each numark are like £150

  • used technics, you can get two for like $450-$500 and if you get two new numark belt drives it'll be like $350. Idk just sayin lol

  • u just got direct-drive numark tt200s for $200

  • it aint about what equipment you got, its how its used ;)

  • obviously never used 1210s lol but i agree

    one

  • don't listen to rossycee08.... belt drive turntables are like shit to learn (and even for profesional use) it's much more difficult, and you will get exasperated while learning....I recommend you to buy a pair of direct drive turntables and any mixer...vestax or something like that....

  • gayly awful

  • Wicked video lesson dood!

  • your so experience and such a great tutor !

  • hey i know you have that line on the record but how do you know were to put the needle?

and my turntable skips alot and its a bent are and i urned it to make it straight and the little weight thing is on 3.5

    please help!

  • your needle that you use to scratch, has recommended weight of say 3.5 turn it up to 4... if your skipping ty the tone arm adjust depending on your turntables.. Or get if all else fails get new Decks and pay for Dj lessons !! lol .. good luck !

  • set the anti-skate to 0.

  • on technics you can take the weight off the back

  • looks daft

  • you forgot "practice and enjoy" dude :P

  • and pain killers for afters!! Arms aching Arms aching !! :)))

  • everyone needs more pipe no exceptions

  • he is good

  • shut up, bitch

  • LOL!!!

  • u and the guy above u r biches

  • maybe when you crawl out of your ass you will realise that there is more to music than simply melody and lyrics. besides, percussion is the foundation of all music. turntabilism is mostly percussion orientated. Maybe if you had a sense of rhythm you may be able to understand and possibly appreciate it. Then there is also loads of djs that are making very melodic and rhythmic music using turntables. use your brain and research something before you mock it, you sound foolish and prententious.

  • Because it's a musical instrument....there will always be someone playing it. And if you have a negative comment dont watch the video. For us that are appreciative ellaskins...thanks for the tutorials.

  • more to the point, why the hell is there always some moron complaining about other peoples lifestyles? no matter where you go there will always be some fool who is so bored with their own life that they gotta antagonise others for what they do. get over yourself.alot of the reason for being a dj is that it doesn't confine you to one particular style, its easy to pick up, and most all, its great fun. maybe that why every white boy, and black kid for that matter, old and young are all into dj'ing.

  • Whats your problem?..he already said its a guide for total beginners you dunce, plus this guy would have rocked the party around 1982..haha..only kidding ellaskins...hey guys, check my videos..I will be doing some beginner tips myself, just showing some scratch tips like echo fading etc...still learning myself though..if you like my videos subscribe to them..nice one people...DJ Alkemy.

  • OHH noooo! You didn't say "Practise and Enjoy!"

    What a pity :p

I like your lessons! im watching but i don't have my turntables yet :(

But ill have ! And ill be practising! ;) (with your lessons of coure!)

Ps. The zipper is very good thing sometimes i used it to scratch :P

  • not only the zipper is a good method to learn scratchin xD ur movin ur hand at some other activities too^^

  • why does he turn the volume down when he brings the record back?

  • cause he doesnt want u to hear the rewinded sound of the sample

  • man you should scrach with your crossfader, so you make cleaner cuts

  • can u see any xfader? xD

  • he should buy a mixer with crossfader

    hehe

  • you obviously havnt seen his later vids he has some excellent gear now

  • thanks Mijolnier, the mixer you see has an X fade but it's about 1" and has no curve! quite old school and not so good j

  • if u like house music

or hed kandi and that stuff

    check my mixes out guys

    im onli 14 bit dj'in

    errm for 4 months now

comment and suggest how i can get better thanks :)

  • vtsorba asked a question and i think I know what they meant and I have the same question, i'll just restate it: What is the 'platter' on your right side? Is it strictly a vinyl meant to be scratched with? is it just noise?

  • hahain this video`s you didnt sayn your magic words 'practice and enjoy'

    nice

  • can u scratch with belt drive turn tables?

  • yeh but its a pain in the ass

  • In reply to Krithiam, you can scratch with belt drive turntables... but it is seriously not recommended. You will lose all torque very quickly, leaving you with useless decks in need of repair. Direct drive turntables are the way to go, and can be picked up for a fraction more than belt driven turntables, and will last you a lot longer.

  • great tutorial there's no kinda words like "eh" or "uuhm" or something great tutorial(again) *subscribing*
