Anybody messing with high voltage must have had something like this happen at some point. Quite a few times for me actually.

Don't feed the ends of the secondary coil through the tube it's wrapped around or this happens.

@demo1023 This coil failed due to an overheating FET in the output section, not due to internal arcing inside the secondary. The secondary is still in use today in fact and it works just fine.

what did u make your end caps out of of the only stuff i could find was lexan at home depot. also how did you cut it so cleanly?

They are made of .25" lexan which I ordered online. The lexan that home depot sells will work just fine. I used a lathe and custom attachment that I made to hold the disk and to cut it to be perfectly round.

i have same problem, when i film 220V 15A sstc, after camera shut down, i get great explosion :D
