Even though it was initially in theaters in the summer of 84 it was brought back to theaters by popular demand for the Christmas season of that year. Not many movies had that kind of power. As for Eddie Murphy, 1983/84 was a roller coaster period of time as he went from Blockbuster (Trading Places) to flop (Best Defense) and back to blockbuster (Beverly Hills Cop).

I just got through reading on the Wiki Ghostbusters page that after Bill Murrey read the script for Ghostbusters 3 he ripped it to shreds sent it back with a note saying, "No one wants to see old fat guys chasing ghosts." MURREY YOU'RE WRONG! We the fans of Ghostbusters would feel ill knowing that you're "passing the torch." We don't want younger hipster jackwagons...we love you guys and we want only you! Age doesn't matter dude, get over that.

It's not 80's racism, Ernie Hudson was a little known actor who replaced Eddie Murphy for who the role was written for. Eddie Murphy was at the time the biggest star on the planet and choose to do Beverly Hills Cop (which was the highest grossing movie of that year, even beating g-busters)

After all these years this film still holds up. I was 16 at the time when I went to see it at the pictures with my friends. I remember "Gremlins" being released the same time and I was spoilt as to which one to see. The film is still funny, and is one of the best summer blockbusters to come out
