  • bought this book last month.............................

and I totally enjoyed it, I finished it in less than a week which is rare for me since I tend to lose my interest in things very easily.

And I also think that it is Ironic that a man came from a land in which Philippine basketball has rarely been heard of has re-invigorated my love for Philippine hoops.

  • i love you Rafe.......

  • i will do that nice God brought you here with purpose and I know this will create a change anywhere around the world.

  • i always wondered to those who can't speak/understand Tagalog, how does it sound?? like chinese and korean sound similar to me (cuz i can't distinguish the 2) as well as italian and spanish. what does tagalog sound like? when i say sound i mean its overall tone in a random crowd.

  • @crosseyed55 I've always wondered the same thing. I have no idea since I just hear it all in English in my head but I wonder. I hear a lot of round tones in the language.

  • @CUCProductions You're right. I tried to clarify this with an earlier comment. I should have said first book of its kind, in that it's narrative non-fiction that tries to explain the role of basketball in Philippine culture. There are excellent books already by Beth Celis and others, but they are more like coffee table books. My apologies for misspeaking.

  • Too bad all Filipinos except me are short. Hahaha.

  • i love basketball but the language is amazing never seen so much passion in words, is this filipino language?

  • @SALAUTAinternet88 Yup, it sure is. :)

  • omg he speaks better than me

  • jo tudtud! lol

  • i can't even speak tagalog as well as he can && i'm filipino! :O

  • This guy can speak tagalog better than i do and i'm filipino....amazing. He must have a great deal of passion for Philippines and the countrymen.

  • Very impressive! You even got the accent down and the facial expressions do not look awkward at all!

Tagalog is my fourth language, I can understand it very well but speaking is hard since I never used it as a daily language but I learned it at formally school from a very young age.

I'm not a big supporter of Philippine basketball mainly because Philippines will never be globally competative at it, thus will never reap the benefits. We are just short people, we'll got owned by NBA players.

  • @Aruchinjiru i don't quit agree yes there are asians who are small but generalizing it would be wrong, there are filipinos huge filipinos who can go head to head with nba players. like danny ildefonso, yes philippines isnt't globally competitive but PH players do actually have games with NBA allstar players from time to time and they do pretty good i have to say.

  • wow you look hot....!

  • i can't even speak tagalog and i'm filipino-american ! -.-

  • this is so random being on my homepage. haha

and pretty weird watching a white guy speak fluent. haha

  • Galing mo, Rafe. Looking forward to getting a copy of your book. Let's talk about Hoops sometime.

  • @renndelacruz Anytime. @rafeboogs is my twitter a

  • One fact-check from the author: This is technically not the first book in the world about Philippine basketball. Pinoy sports writers like Beth Celis, Recah Trinidad and others have written coffee table books featuring the best players in Philippine history and the history of the PBA. I should have said this is the first book of its kind, that is, a narrative non-fiction book that tries to explain the role basketball plays in Philippine culture. Maraming maraming salamat sa inyong lahat!

  • Impressive! You speak Tagalog really well! Were you born there? Or did you study the language for your book?

  • @ermastarr Thanks! I'm still learning! Born and raised in NYC, but started studying Tagalog in 2005 just before I went to live in QC. It took me mga three years to get acceptable, and I'm still working at improving until now.

  • im half filipino and half hawaiian and i still dont have an accent as good as him D:

  • How much is the book I think I want to get a copy. Also is it available in All National Bookstore nationwide or just a selected NB branch?

  • @Xen1zation Medyo mahal eh. 950 php at National. There are 1500 more copies arriving in the Philippines soon, so it should be easier to find. Still very hard to find outside of Manila. Sorry about that.

  • kaya mo bato

  • His accent is almost flawless :)

  • aww :) im filipino and didnt even understand most of what he said. so cute.

  • He is so good at speaking Tagalog, much respect! I wish you the best of luck with your book. I'm actually going to check this out at the Barnes and Nobles here in Virginia, very interesting. Thank you!

  • @dreanab It should be available there. If you can't find it in the story, there's always Amazon! Thanks so much!

  • Wow, I could actually understand you! :D

  • English, please!

  • you're so good in speaking tagalog!!! :)

  • magaling ka magtagalog! saan tinuturuan mo?

  • @sunnyinvladivostok Tinuruan ako ni Becca Dizon sa Pilipinas. Taga Nueva Ecija siya kaya malalim talaga ang Tagalog niya.

  • Wow! Ang sarap palang mapakinggan ang isang dayuhang nag fifilipino wow!

  • Hello there Bartholome I like the fact that you posted this video having a foreign visiting our country means that our country is safe and very hospitable. I am glad that you choose philippines for advocacy ( naks nosebleed hehe). I wanna see the book and actually read it where can I have a copy?

  • @kindjoy20 It's available at National Bookstore, Fully Booked and PowerBooks in Metro Manila.

  • hehehe

  • @meisouvlaki

how does my mother have anything to do with this? she doesnt speak tagalog either, was that supposed to be some kind of insult? if so then you failed to offend me. you sir, are a tool.

  • im filipino but i have no desire to learn tagalog!!!

  • @WheelieMaster85 Well no one is forcing you to do so, but you got to see that you are being a troll here. If you are so ashamed of being of Filipino descent then you shouldn't even be here in the first place right?

  • Woohoo!

    Your awesome :)

  • @arvinjohnpaul then i think you should check out my Philippine Day parade video. Enjoy! :)

  • @arvinjohnpaul If this makes your proud... please check out my Philippine Day Parade video... enjoy!!! :)
