  • thumbs up if in your watching this in 2042

  • Breaking Bad brought me here, Season 2 Episode 7. "Negro y Azul"

  • TABITHA, IF YOU DON'T UNDERSTAND THE IMPORTANCE OF DUCKING AND COVERING THEN THE ATOMIC BOMB COULD BURN YOU WORSE THAN A TERRIBLE SUNBURN

  • Duck and cover and..BOOM goes the dynamite..LOL

Duck, cover, vaporize.. If they were all (as in 1:28) atomic

bombs then yes, duck and cover is a good idea. A warhead

from the USSR (if it were accurately delivered which may

be much less possible than we used to think) was

typically 1MT and duck and cover is as useful as a

vote for McCain/Palin (BTW I am a Republican -- in

    the interest of full-disclosure) :-)

  • "Oh God! I cant see the public shelter sign right ACROSS THE STREET!"

Wow, I'm glad how "advanced" defense was in the fifties.

  • I actually remember these. I'm only 44, but for some reason I remember them from my childhood..... hmmmmm

  • @Liucilla They were occasionally around. I am 40

and used to have spots in our basement ready in

case of attack :-) LOL We lived near Chicago and

there would have been less than a few dust piles

left of me and my neighborhood. The practice came

in handy though -- now I'm a TV meteorologist and

    tornadoes keep me busy..

  • @ChristopherSaindon WOW that is awesome. I should have been a meteorologist because I'm completely enthralled with weather. I live in Alabama, and up until the past couple of years have had very active tornado seasons. What an awesome job. I'm officially jealous!!

  • @Liucilla Alabama is AWESOME! I worked at WCFT-TV

in Tuscaloosa, AL until Birmingham became a kind of

super TV market. James Spann is among the best so I

knew you would all be taken care of :-) I was there in

1996. It's a really fun job! What city in AL are you in?

Yes they had a massive F5 on April 8, 1998, and there

was the massive Enterprise, AL F4 as well. Then April 4,

1977 Birmingham had a 1/2 mile wide F5..and the Piedmont

and Goshen F4 on March 27, 1994. AL is AWESOME :-)

  • @Liucilla I know the Birmingham AL NWS people are

REALLY among the best. You're in good hands. I'll be

keeping an eye on Alabama and Mississippi as I have

for over 30 years..and if I see something headed your

way I can usually give you 24 hours at least. I'm at

svrtstm AT yahoo DOT com (I Dont think youtube will let me

    use a dot com :-)

  • 7:46 Next time I build a bomb shelter, i'm gonna make out of this brand new indestructible fabulous material called "Newspaper". I feel much safer now. at least i can read something as i burn

  • For some reason this film saddens me.

  • That's not a duck! That's a turtle!

  • from 6:05 to 6:15 that brother like broke that girls ribs shoving her into a brick wall WTF

  • in soviet union desk hides under you!

  • Lol. 3:10 "And very tightly cover the back of your neck WITH YOUR FACE!"

  • Hmmmm if only we had vaults in the 50 s

  • Remember, when we get nuked, get under your desks, and hope that your shadow isnt imprinted into the concrete floor!

  • Comment removed

  • at 6 25 you can see people walking normally to the right

  • yeah thats fast getting into home just drop the football cause there cumbersome

  • hahahahahahaha so if north korea ever launches an atomic bomb towards us, ducking and covering will prevent my skin from burning up, my building from collapsing and radiation poisoning? good to know! =)

  • N. K is too far away (assuming ur american) the best they can do is move to china and launch from the coast then maybe hit ALASKA

  • remember kids if you duck and cover theres no chance a large explosion and radiation with 220 MPH winds can hurt you ^_^

  • dumdum diddle dumdum diddle dumdum diddle dumdum! i love that xD

  • the tittle is actually only half of the meassage, the rest is "....and kiss your ass good-bye"

  • 6:45

  • no bitch

  • Because that'll save your skin from melting off. XP

  • dumb-dumb diddle dumb-dumb

  • yes because a small cloth will protect you from radiation, falling debris and temperatures over a thousand degrees, when the atomic bomb goes off and your in radius, there's no hope other than a well made fallout shelter.

  • Yes, its called propaganda.

  • no its not, its a fact, standing in a area of several thousand degrees, and your solution to that is cover the back of your head with a thin cloth. Propaganda is like when somebody spreads one side of the story of something, trying to sway the opinion of a group of people or the public.

  • They knew that the duck and cover thing would not save you from a direct nearby hit. Nothing would. Its purpose was to try to reduce injuries among those who were far enough away from the epicenter to survive the initial blast and scorching wind. It's just like hiding in your basement during a tornado. It won't save you from a direct hit, it just reduces the likelihood of injury from a nearby hit. Sure, that blanket might not do much, but I would do anything possible to reduce my injuries.

  • Dude, the duck and cover only works for things like earth quakes where there is falling objects, when an atomic bomb goes off its chaotic, not just falling objects but mass destruction in just a few seconds, the duck and cover was made to keep the public calm so they could feel some sense of control and hope over an atomic attack.

  • Yeah, but it actually made some people very scared and panicky until it was over. I think the U.S. shouldn't have participated in something this chaotic if they knew there would be a possibilit of wiping out the next generation.

  • this was in fallout 3 lol

  • I wonder if the flash from a camera ever caused someone to duck and cover when they didn't need to.

  • oh how inspiring...

  • you and you and you and you

    duck and cover!

maybe not the best idea xD

  • Duck and Cover! then die of radiation effects.

  • Remember kids, when a thermo-nuclear device goes off in your school yard, protect from the blast under a newspaper!

  • word! I mean with that kind of propaganda anyone was able to feel "safe". They lived a normal life, while knowing that they could die in any moment, or place, but with hope to survive by ducking and covering. Naive. That's what it was.

  • lol... i can't believe this... its so... so... i don't even know, but its humoruslly idiotic.... lol... DUCK AND COVER!!! retarded bomb threats...

  • how sad... very sad... the effects of war on the innocent

  • Germany?

  • yeah... the nazis.. the monkey with the tnt explosive... i know the monkey represents danger but the main danger who everybody HATED in WWII, and still do, is High HerrMany!, also known as germany, and gerries by the British...

  • man ducking and covering won't save you from an atom bomb.

  • ahh... Sadly they don't any longer make this sorta good old fingerpointing propaganda...

  • I remember being shown this in elementary school... and that was just before the end of the Cold War. This movie was used for an incredibly long time.

  • Outstanding retro stuff! I know someone who lived thru this, and remembers it well!

THIS IS JUST HOW IT WAS!!!

    ~Cindy! :)

  • its why theyre slightly nuts

  • You know there were a bunch of assholes running around with flash bulbs and things to blow up just to scare the shit out of people.

  • Hahahah....that's so ....funny and educational.

  • My Uncle who was in Vietnam as a Marine, said they showed this at Paris Island during basic.Thats around 1968.
