Some of my favorite players are Mike Ricci, Rick Tocchet, Jody Shelley...Wayne Gretzky will always be the only poster boy for hockey, because he damn well earned it. If you saw the Stanley Cup, you would have noticed Toews, and why he is a great captain. Won MVP and doesn't show boat. Ove and Crosby are a disgrace to the C on their chest.

Even though that rivalry is pretty much done, they still sell out. All I'm trying to say is rivalries are better than poster boys, and because of the way the style of play has changed, rivalries just don't happen as much.

Basically you don't want too watch teams that have absolutley no players if your not a hardcore fan of the sport, who wants to watch a Minnesota Wild vs. Florida Panthers game?(1 example) Rivalries have more long-term value i agree, i think poster boys are good for the not so hardcore sport fans who just love to watch those certain players. I know Malkin has the Conn Smythe, which means a lot, but without Crosby the Penguins don't even make it out of the second round last year. It doesn't matter how great an individual player is, teammates need to step up for a team to have success.
