Cats use whiskers to judge sizes of holes and openings. The top whiskers above the eyes are used to measure how far something is from there eyes. Touching them causes them to reflex and shut there eyes momentarily to protect them. Don't cut them too short. They must be at least the width of the cats widest point. This insures they do not misjudge a whole and get stuck. Cutting the top whiskers could result in the cats eyes being damaged from lack of protection against objects.
A little girl 5 yrs old did that to my cat, and later , just phew weeks. My cat nearly fell off the roof, from loss of balance, get a good laugh about that becuz , be the only one after when someone breaks ur balance u loose ur grip or w/e, That's what whiskers are, Grip, Balance. and sense. .
