  • Just learning to canoe and I found this video entertaining and inspirational. Thanks!

  • Glad you enjoyed it, hope it makes canoeing easier for you.

  • Great Video! I love the dog in the water 3:20 :) Thanks

  • I thought I was an exceptional paddler until I saw this video. I now realize I am a mere amateur compared to you, I have a lot of work to do... Thank you for sharing your skills!

  • @DaneStolthed

My pleasure... and in spite of the kind words... I figure I still have stuff to learn. There is always room to improve.

  • you are most welcome and i glad you found it helpful. Great choice on a canoe too.

  • This has been the single most helpful video in my quest to master the art of paddling a canoe. I just got my novacraft prospector yesterday, and my first paddle was far better with the help of this video than it would have been if I hadn't found this channel. Thank you! Can't wait to master all of these strokes...

  • Excellent skills.

  • what boat is that please? I love this video. Thanks

    Al

  • there are several different boats in use. I used Novacraft Pal and Prospector canoes (the red ones) and the strip canoe is one I designed and made from cedar.

  • @kanuhed ...sorry, of course there are several. I meant the cedar one. Really beautiful boat.

  • The cedar canoe is a one off. I had an old cedar plank canoe I restored and loved to paddle. I took the lines off that one, lofted it out on paper, produced a table of offsets, turned that into a form and then made the cedar strip canoe you see in the video. That is the only one ever produced from the form. Nice canoe, it paddles as great as it looks but it's not for beginners. Glad you liked it.

  • Great video Rolf! Good to hear your reference to the legacy of canoe camps, and the phrase "canoe country". Geography and the canoe have played a major role in who and what we are in Canada. Thanks for showing the Canadian stroke, and straight shaft paddle classic style!
