could you help me out i rooted my droid x when i try to get into linux installer it gives me an error saying Missing Kernal Modules please check kernal: /proc/config.gz
@adam3251 Make sure you follow the final instruction and press the button for installing the scripts. If you _have_ done that, make sure that you haven't changed that setting. It's possible to rename that startup in the Linux Installer settings. PM me if you're still having troubles.
anyway to get a desktop? (GUI?), i've got no experience with linux but i love to toy with my phone like this, i have checked a little on google but nothing i tried worked. any help would be appreciated.
@theSuperVil That's a good next step, sure. I usually use apt-get rather than aptitude, since it's better on a limited terminal like a phone.
Btw, I recommend the app "hacker's keyboard" if you've got a large screen or a tablet. Gives you a proper keyboard with all the function keys and whatnot. Makes it way easier to work in a Unix command line environment.
@dents0 In terms of storage space you can configure it to suit your needs. 300MB is the smallest you can set that parameter but I'd recommend at least 500 so you've got room for some applications and tools.
As for CPU and RAM usage, the chroot itself uses minimal resources. Obviously, any Linux programs you run will be different. Some stuff will use nearly nothing, while others will use as much CPU as it can.
Mainly I've been using it for infosec and pen testing tools. Nmap, ettercap, metasploit framework. In addition I've added gcc and perl, in case I want to do some scripting on the go and I plan on adding IDAPro if I can get it working (haven't tried yet, but it should work in theory).
