the Budweiser shootout is an exhibition race that is made up of drivers who started on the pole in the previous season AND active drivers who have won the Bud shootout. it is a non-points race, but i do think there is a cash prize for winning, but i don't know how much.
now for the Daytona 500, there are 2 races called the Gatorade Duels. they decide the starting positions, with the exception of the front row, P1 and P2, which are based on qualifying time alone
Wow you guys are lucky to get so much pre race activity. Here in Aus, theres qualifying (F1 style knocout style), then 3 150km races. Kinda dull compared to what you guys have!
well, all of that is only for the first race of the season, the Daytona 500. for every other race, there are 3 practice sessions, one qualifying session, and then the race. but there are 3 different series.
I don't think that would have happened with the new car. Since the bumpers line up and all.

What is the Budweiser shootout? Is it sort of like a race before the race or something, to decide grid position?
Forgive my ignorance, but I'm Australian lol sadly we don't get NASCAR unless you pay for TV
