But when all the AGs met to discuss it, they couldn't make a decision, so they postponed it, and now there is apparently another AG who is against the R rating, the one from Victoria I think. He is basically just echoing the Australia Christian Lobby group (Who are renowned for blocking points of view that disagree with them no matter how respectful the person is).

I find it so strange that anyone could fail to see the logic that an R18+ rating actually decreases the risk to children. Games are already violent and they are available now to children and many many parents are completely ignorant to their real content. More, people will just import these banned video games, therefore undermining this ban and hurting the Australian game industry.

This basically means that by blocking the R18 rating, Atkinson is essentially exposing kids to games that other countries deem as adult. How many mums buy their 12 year old MA games? Would they if they were R rated?
I don't see why video games should be treated any differently than alcohol. Minors are not allowed to buy them but there is still the chance that the will. Alcohol not only impairs judgement but has been proven to physically impair developement in minors. Underage drinking is still a serious problem here yet there has not been a total ban on alcohol, and rightly so. It is the parents who should be held accountable for what goods their children illegally obtain while they are underage.

I think if there is overwhelming support for something (In this case the R rating), the clouded opinions of one politician shouldn't be able to stop it.
I would say the game getting a 15 rating is a good thing, since Atkinson will just outright refuse the R rating no matter what results this discussion paper gets.
As for why it was reversed, I'm not too sure, all I know is they took "The context of the game" into consideration....how that works for this and not for L4D2 I do not know.

Heaps of people buy games from overseas or download overseas versions.
However, adults capable of their own decisions shouldn't have to do that to get a game. Atkinson's stance is one of sheer ignorance.

Another good point to be made here should be that the game being played in this video can be bought by any teenager 15 years or over. In Europe and North America, you have be over 18 or 17 to get a hold of it, as the developers intended. It should be restricted to adults just like our beloved beers and cigarettes are.
Censoring bits of blood and sex in ADULT games is like censoring nipples in a porno. Absolutely stupid.

What's more shocking than all of your points put together - this quote from a G4C candidate:
"85% of the MA rated games in Australia were NC 17 rated in America. More than 50% of those were rated 18+ in Europe under the PEGI system"
This basically means that by blocking the R18 rating, Atkinson is essentially exposing kids to games that other countries deem as adult. How many mums buy their 12 year old MA games? Would they if they were R rated?

I don't see why video games should be treated any differently than alcohol. Minors are not allowed to buy them but there is still the chance that the will. Alcohol not only impairs judgement but has been proven to physically impair developement in minors. Underage drinking is still a serious problem here yet there has not been a total ban on alcohol, and rightly so. It is the parents who should be held accountable for what goods their children illegally obtain while they are underage.

I really hope this Gamers 4 Croydon group get voted in and atkinson is kicked out. He's is so stupid that he doesn't realise the irony of his argument that not having a R18+ rating is stoping violent video games coming in when to take the most recent example of the game Alien VS Predator which SHOULD definitely have been 18+ is now coming in as MA15 because there was so much of a backlash from the videogame community. So Atkinson has only made it easier for kids to get violent video games

I agree. If a game had an R rating slapped on it, it would (or should) make people think twice about letting little Jimmy play it. Refusing the R rating and forcing games to be MA is utterly stupid.

Here's a warning to any teenage gamer who desires to scream at this man: don't. Threatening him or abusing him only gives him more ammunition- he will whine "see these games are making them violent!". Just don't vote for him, support games4crydon (is that the name) and just wait it out. Sooner or later, we will get the rating, or civil war will ensue lol.

I'm too cynical to think anything will change in the near future (but i still support change)... but Atkinson will eventually die, ill just wait it out, hes got a solid 45 years on me... and also the whole L4D2 censorship can be removed and aussies can play the uncensored version with a laughablely small amount of work (change 2 numbers in the files, not joking) but it wont then it won't allow internet play... more power to you critial punishment...

I would say the game getting a 15 rating is a good thing, since Atkinson will just outright refuse the R rating no matter what results this discussion paper gets.
As for why it was reversed, I'm not too sure, all I know is they took "The context of the game" into consideration....how that works for this and not for L4D2 I do not know.
