I've been waiting a long time for someone who can do the following:
1. Lay down rock, rock blues and blues tunes that will have you picking your jaw up off the floor. 2. Absolutely rip apart the fretboard by applying multilple techniques and blazing chops (this guy is NOT a one trick pony) from song to song and even within a song. 3. Have a voice that supports his guitar work AND can sing within the framework of multiple styles (rock, blues, rock blues etc..). JOE BONAMASSA is the REAL DEAL!!!
@Ricsic6 Although he is mostly in the same vein as Buddy Guy, SRV, with a bit of Zep mixed in, he plays with supreme feel and tone, has a good voice, and plays with the proficiency of Randy Rhoades. Compared to his modern day contemporaries: Tom Morello, John Mayer, Fruciante, why the hell shouldn't he be famous!? He stands head and shoulders above 99% of electric guitar players :)
@Ricsic6 How Can You judge someone on one song ??? SHame on you, the best way to understand why joe is one of the best artists today is by listen more songs. I can see that blues riffs makes you boring, than listen to "prisoner" and "black lung heartache" and even " no love on the street". Please listen these 3 songs and then come back and tell me if you like it or not. I respect your taste but you need to now more about that guy before asking.
He's not a kid, been playing for 28 years, age isn't the criteria, it's the talent and passion he has, put in more time than the older ones. I saw him 3 weeks ago live and it was the best concert I ever saw in my lifetime and I'm older than Joe, He's an artist unbeholden to any record label, he can do whatever he wants. Go Joe!
fun to see this. in those days (just 4 years ago) he was much 'greasier' than he is today, yet he dragged that silver jubilee everywhere, just as he does to this day. moreover, this is more blues than the stuff he does today, which is more 'joe bonamassa' than anything else (blues meets folk meets hardrock meets country?!). oh, and he isn't using a dumble-clone amp apposed to now.
Bonamassa is still a kid musically. That's what's wrong with music today- we're ready to crown someone king as soon as they arrive on the scene. You think taylor swift or justin bieber is really as good as all the hype? Bonamassa may be the best in 20 more years. Now tho, he isn't.
I seen Joe in concert. I've also seen at least 3 guitarists better than him. Don't get me wrong ,he's good but he's just not a top tier player yet. Someday maybe. He's still young and needs a bit more experience.
@seymourbbest please name these three guitarists. Do you even play? To say that he's not a top tier player is literally one of the worst posts I've seen on this thread yet. Most people throw words like that around and can't even play I-V power rock chord....
I love this song. The special thing is that I can hear it again and again without gettin tired of it. In my opinion the best version of the song in the net.
No I've seen Bonamassa live and he just doesn't have a great voice. Bonamassa reminds me of Jimmy Thackery----great guitar with a so so voice. Thackery has his drummer do a lot of the singing ,Bonamassa should get himself a singer.
@seymourbbest he's got a great voice, there are many kinds, he cansing bluesy, jazzy, rock & roll, smokey you nmae it, also country, most of his fans love his voice, especially the female fans, it's great.
@seymourbbest you remind me of al the other trolls, they trie to get attention with an opinion that makes no sence, no arguments?? a deff man can see he's got a good voice. what your saying is like,
gibson doesn't make guitars, WTF i fucking have one how do you explain that, you can't deny facts bitch.
your probably one of those people who thing the moonlanding is fake.. lol
@seymourbbest - I disagree his voice is great, quite rich and velvety. It's not a big booming voice like a lot of the blues artists have, but he can certainly hold his own against his band.
@seymourbbest I think you can blame a lot of that on the mix engineer or maybe his guitar signal is bleeding into his vocal mic (well, I know that's happening for sure but, I mean in an inordinate amount).
this guy's career is going nowhere but up. In the last two years he has exploded into this blues king and I couldn't be happier about it. He is the best going right now. He can pay homage to the classics and right with modern style too. And damn that Slash top on that Les Paul is sexy!!
For those who are complaining, it's BLUES ROCK, not traditional blues. People who like this should also check out Warren Haynes, Government Mule, Walter Trout...just some free advice.
I recently heard "The Ballad Of John Henry" for the first time and I thought.. "Man this is awesome! But wait, I think I know that voice!". Then I listentened to this track and I knew I'd heard this riff before, so I started looking op live version. Turns out I actually saw this broadcasting live on TV as a 16 year old kid! I remember trying to get his CD back then but I couldn't get it anywhere those days so he kinda slipped to the back of my head.. I'm so glad I re-discovered him now!!
Joe was a child protegy at the early age of 5. He was talent search shows as the cute little boy that can play the guitar....and boy can he play. It is a shame he is small market. More people need to hear about Joe and they would love him.
Joe used to absolutely kill, but for small audiences. His new manager has brought him straight into the public's attention, alas it has been at the cost of his musics quality.
That being said, I like his new stuff. But not as much the old stuff.
Thank GOD I'm not the only one who misses Czar!!! He PUSHED Joe to always be on the top of his game, now he's gone and Joe is "The Artist" with a backing band. THAT SUCKS!

@ScageyGuitarist Yeah, I'm 16 too, glad to see there's more people my age that like some good fuckin music. Have you ever seen him live? He's amazing, I saw him just before he became really sucessfull in Manchester when I was nearly 14.
@hardrockerdave94 Yeah same here, what I love more and more about Joe, is that he's got such a great personality, and spends so much time talking to his fans, and relating to the younger audience, so in a way, he's single-handedly getting youngsters back into decent music! And yeah, seen him 4 times, can't get enough of the guy! Love him =D... There's a vid I uploaded of when he called me up at his clinic in Southampton if you wanna watch (: Peace man...
why does he keep referring to bb king?
