Since Xabi Alonso plays in the initial team, Spain has lost their depth, while Barcelona continues having it and playing really well. Who needs Alonso if we can put in the midfield to Xavi (to organise) Busquets (for destroy the play) and Iniesta (for create). Moreover, without Alonso (a nuisance in the spanish national team's style) we can put to Silva above.

@97laze Football has far more to do with what you can do with the ball (in all areas of the pitch), as opposed to just goal scoring. If you can manage to be honest, ask yourself this question: When was the last time Lampard did ANYTHING in an International tournament?

@Subtitles00 I'm trying not to hate, but to me, Lampard represents the failings of a supposed "golden generation". No pace, poor work rate, tackling, heading and with little variety. It's just that type of player that for some unknown reason, he found himself ahead of Gerrard in the pecking order. It's because of Lampards lack of adaptability that Gerrard (an infinitely better player) found himself being frequently being played out of position.

"better professional" is just coded language for "works hard", and has very little to do with what you can do!...If Lampard had spent more time trying to hone the weaker areas of his game, then perhaps he'd be a more complete player. Which would've helped England in the long run, and might have added validity to your arguement. Alonso=a better player!

The EPL is a poor league where technical and tactical skills are concerned, and this is no more evident when looking at Lampard's International performances. When it comes to International tournaments (a level above the EPL), Lampard displays an alarmingly small amount of variety to his game, no pace, no dribbling ability or variety when it comes to shooting at goal.

When comparing Lampard to the likes of Alonso, Gerrard, Xavi, Iniesta, schweinsteiger, etc, he seems like a two dimensional player (at best!). So is Lampard a bad player?...Of course not!...But he is a player who lacks the technical variety required to be considered as truely World class, and with his pysical dificiencies (average stamina and no pace), Lampard is clearly below the standard of those players I've named.

As for gerrard, his record is also misleading, as everyone who knows anything about football realises that Liverpool haven't been able afford or attract the type of players that Chelsea have in the past decade.
