With the red peppers it takes a LONG time for them to turn red... I have one left in my garden that I need to pull today because its hitting almost freezing at nite now here in Montreal, and its STILL not red!! I'm gonna put up a pic of it on my Facebook later, feel free to add me if you would like to see the garden I built this past summer, cheers!!
Thanks very much for sharing. Had not realized that it was possible to successfully grow anything other than cukes, tomatoes and peppers upside down. How have the eggplant, squash and zuchinni managed over time in your upside down containers?
Good work, nice looking plants. Make sure though, that your peppers and tomatoes get plenty calcium, because I had real bad end blossom rot on my tomatoes and some peppers, and it was because I didn't have enough calcium.
@buddymac28 . Thanks for the comment. This video is my garden last year and I learned all about blossom end rot as I had a bunch :). My garden this year has had almost none. I use a calcium spray to prevent it that I found last year and it seems to work pretty well. Thanks for watching!
@eredy -If you are refering to Perlite, it a natural volcanic rock, crused and heated to expand the particles making it lighter and enhancing the porosity. The plastic pots/buckets are another matter. Who knows what is used to make the plastic UV resistant, flexible, etc?
@mickyboy200768 . The raised beds definitely do better, but the upside down containers work ok. Especially for peppers they do great. And if you don't want to have to dig up your yard or put down a bed the containers work nice. But the beds do grow better. My tomato plants are huge right now compared to last may. I should have a new video out Friday.
Most hooks you buy at HomeDepot/Lowes/Walmart should say how much weight they can hold (25lbs/45lbs/etc). Most any fence can then hold up the hooks and weight of the planter, assuming you screw it into either a post or 2 by 4. So not the vertical fencing pieces that are thin.
WOW!! great Garden Jason! You are definitely a Master Gardener keep up the good work. btw...I couldn't help noticing that you have an absolutely great speaking voice! Do you by any chance work in Radio or Television?
Your garden looks great. Can't wait to see your update. I just posted an update yesterday. I have an upside-down and container garden too and I love it. Watching things grow is therapeutic.
Thanks for the comments. I think I'm in zone 7. I'm just outside of Atlanta. I've seen a few different types of those "zone" maps and a couple said different things.
I should be posting a new vid today/tomorrow. I have a bunch more growth/new veggies. Thanks for watching.
Glad to see ur upside down garden coming along. I planted a couple of tomatoes in some homemade planters & I am waiting for them to grow. I will be checking back to see ur progress. Hopefully u will have fruit & veggies soon!
Thanks for watching. I actually have some strawberries, but they are not upside down. Have a few berries on them too. I should have another update out later this week.
I'm not doing cucumbers this year. I don't eat them a lot, but have seen videos of people growing them and they sound fairly easy to grow. If you post videos let me know. Thanks for watching!
We had another set of storms come through on Tuesday and the plants were blowing like crazy, luckily it wasn't for too long. I almost thought about bringing a few of the larger plants in, but they didn't get hurt. Having them up against a fence helps to block some of the wind.
I saw your garden vids, they look good. Thanks for watching.
Yeah, as I was watching I thought about the fence. It does protect the plants somewhat. I wish i could afford enough fence to do my whole yard. I'm about to add a short fence. Maybe I can fence it in a little at the time.
I bought plants from the internet. They were way too small to hang under the 5 gallon buckets so we planted them in the top. NOW I've elected to go with the hanging planters like yours. I think they will look nicer and as soon as these plants get bigger, I will do them.
What are you using to keep animals away? We have lots of birds and wildlife.
The last 2 weeks have been highs in the mid 80's and lows in the mid 60's. This last week has been raining a little every day or so, which is odd for GA as we don't get much rain.
As for animals I haven't really done anything yet. Obviously with the fence I don't have to worry about deer or anything like that. And I haven't seen a single bird come near the plants. Now that may change when they veggies really start to grow, so we'll see.
Thanks for watching. Let me know when you post videos.
I actually haven't given them any plant food yet. The miracle grow moisture control soil has fertilizer in it and says that will last for up to 3 months. So I will probably give them some additional miracle grow liquid fertilizer starting at the end of this month.
It's looking good!! I'm jealous!! My tomatoes are barely coming in, I see a lot of flowers but no tomatoes yet. I planted potatoes as an experiment with my son so maybe they'll grow. Next I'll be planted jalapenos! :) Anyway, good job on your garden I'm still jealous LOL
Wow....Everything is looking SOOO good! I love the way the bell pepper is looking...I can't wait until mine start. Looking forward to your next video!
Bella is CUTE! Today's storm was crazy for a small moment, huh? I just planted some seeds in my square foot garden right as the clouds rolled in. Then the winds and rain knocked a lawn chair into the garden bed where we just were. Insane!
It is definitely a ton from only a few weeks ago. I am amazed how little everything grew the first weeks in march when it was cooler to now that it is warm and things are growing a lot.
Thanks. Having the consistent warm/sunny weather has been a huge help. I've been keeping up with yours as well and it looks good too. I may try the sq/ft garden next year along with some hanging stuff.
"I'll tear out some grass so I can grow these without killing the grass"
I love your logic.
Mean plants though, good on ya

@MrandMissConverted The eggplant did pretty well. The squash/zucchini produced some fruit in the beginning, but didn't do that well in the long run.

Why don't you plant both up and down? Down is a problem but up should just double the crop.

What is the benefit of gardening upside down?
I can see the downsides for tomatoes cuz they hate getting their stems wet.
I am just curious.

the dirt that has the white little balls in them its a petroleum product not good for your fruit or veggies
