As shown by several scientific studies there is a possible link between DDT, infertility, and cancer as well as harm to other animals. So by using DDT you may prevent malaria but then just cause other health complications.

DDT is toxic just like other potent chemicals. While "a few species of birds" may be of concern to some, many critics are actually concerned with the effects on humans. Also, if you are so concerned about the less fortunate, do some research on low-lying coastal areas and small islands where rising sea levels threaten to displace hundreds of thousands, most of whom are poor. Then see if you still believe that global warming is not a problem that we should address.

DTD info was news to me, though I don't deny that it is true. Chemicals kill. They kill the good and bad. Therefore they should be used with care as needed. DDT probably should be banned, but perhaps there are certain uses where it can be useful. However, chemicals will also kill what makes life enjoyable to me. If DDT can kill malaria in Africa with a few applications then I say do it, but we can't just be dousing Africa with it everyday. That will only bring about other kinds of sickness.

Someone at the same talk she gave at my school brought up a good point to her argument: There are better alternatives to killing mosquitoes that cause malaria than DDT which are safer for both the environment and people. As shown by several scientific studies there is a possible link between DDT, infertility, and cancer as well as harm to other animals. So by using DDT you may prevent malaria but then just cause other health complications.

She has no idea what she is talking about. Carson never suggested banning DDT. It was never banned for use in fighting malaria. DDT is an insecticide. The more you use it, the less effective it becomes (just like antibiotics). Carson warned about this in her book. If we listened to her we would be much better able to fight malaria. Well I don't know with all these bailouts and what not I would say that our government has become more socialist. And can you really blame people for wanting to be rich? People don't really aspire to be middle to lower class. People want to have the most. Now if our system was truly economically liberal like what Adam Smith believed in, and like our founders intended. Then I think our country would be a great deal better off.

I am assuming it is easy for you to disregard the importance of DDT because you aren't dying of malaria. Travel to Africa and see how this disease (that we almost wiped out) destroys the lives of people in that and other regions of the world and then rethink your stance on DDT. DDT saves lives, does not cause cancer, and weakens the egg shells of some birds. Save millions of humans or a few species of birds. In the future, think about how your opinions effect the less fortunate.

I am assuming it is easy for you to disregard the negative health effects of DDT because you are so determined to believe that people who care about the environment do not care about humans. DDT is toxic just like other potent chemicals. While "a few species of birds" may be of concern to some, many critics are actually concerned with the effects on humans. Agent Orange, used in Vietnam as a great short-term solution, killed soldiers including my uncle from leukemia.

Sadly people mistake what we have in the US these days as capitalism. the Capitalist creed laid out by Henry Ford of "Create the highest quality goods, as cheaply as possible, while paying the highest wages possible" has been replaced with something that looks more like a socialist/fascist hybrid. Capitalists are guys like my dad who LOVE building mini empires of industry and commerce, and get a woody making products that people want, selling them, and seeing happy faces at his plant.

The US recession stems from the USA being able to print the worlds reserve currency. Or demise is from too many years of living off of the money printing press. Had the FED never been existed we would be one of the soundest economies in the world still. Instead we have exported all of our jobs because frankly... we didn't "need" them. Exporting dollars has allowed us all to live as hairstylists, actors and musicians for decades. Capitalism isn't the problem, loss of capitalism is.

You don't have to wait to see collectivism fail. It has done for hundreds of years each time it has been implemented. The Pilgrims tried it (they got it from the Bible) and they nearly starved. In the 20th century the vast majority of countries were collectivist statists and the result was, in every case, starvation, warfare and slaughter on an unprecedented level. DTD info was news to me, though I don't deny that it is true. Chemicals kill. They kill the good and bad. Therefore they should be used with care as needed. DDT probably should be banned, but perhaps there are certain uses where it can be useful. However, chemicals will also kill what makes life enjoyable to me. If DDT can kill malaria in Africa with a few applications then I say do it, but we can't just be dousing Africa with it everyday. That will only bring about other kinds of sickness.
