I bought a Xenyx 1222 USB mixer brand new and my computer won't pick up the mixer. other usb stuff always seems to work so i am wondering what i can do to fix this? also i was wondering if thisi s a good mixer to record drums. thanks!
@ethanVROOMAN For your first question, you might want to try downloading the ASIO4ALL driver. If you're still having problems, please contact BEHRINGER tech support and we'll get you sorted.
As for your second question, yes this mixer will work great for recording drums, or just about anything else you can put in front of a microphone. :)
do you know if they work for Linux systems, because i dont wan t to hav to pay $1200 for a mac just to use garage band and my old windows system on my computer is shedded.
Is it possible to record with this stuff? I have M Audio fast track, but I need more channels, like 3 mics at same time and 2 instruments... Will it work like M audio fast track? Like audio interface? How about latency and this things? And as I understand you CAN'T control software with this mixer like Cubase or Pro Tools?
@ridiska You can record with this stuff, but the XENYX USB mixers only record one track at a time, and do not control software, I'm afraid. I don't think we have what you're looking for ...yet. We do have a lot of cool stuff in the works, though.
i have a Xenyx 1204usb mixer and i would like to record my drummer using 3 live mics and my guitar using two channels (going directly from the amp to the mixer. I can't seem to get each microphone to register as its own track. Do i need to buy an audio interface? Would i be able to hook my mixer up to that seeing as how it is connected with a USB? thankyou
@BilangualPotato666 The USB outs on the 1204USB are designed to output a two track stereo mix. I don't think there's a mixer currently on the market that outputs each input to its own separate track via USB. :(
@BilangualPotato666 I'm afraid that there isn't ANYTHING like that out there right now by anyone. When the UFX1604 and X32 are released next year, they'll be able to output individual tracks to USB stick or external HDD.
So if i wanted to say, record a drum kit, and used 8 mics for toms,overheads,snare,etc... in the final mix on protools for example it will all come out as 1 track?
@phili666 Yes, unfortunately. It's a limitation of USB cables. :( When the UFX1604 is released, though, it will be able to record 16 discrete tracks to a thumb drive.
@phili666 yes it will come out as a stereo track, but if you get the x2442usb it has 8 direct outs so thats the only way of having your whole kit as separate tracks. But you would need a inerface which has that many in's.
I just bought the X2442USB, and it's not working with Cubase LE4 no matter what ASIO driver I use. Can anyone help me? Another 2 or 3 days and I have to return it if I can't get it working.
@dudester97 For live sound applications, yes. The XENYX USB Mixers are not powered, and as such require external power amps w/ passive speakers, or a set of powered speakers. Are you setting up a music venue?
Based on your recommendation of the UFX1604, are you saying that when plugged into a pc, it will display 16 virtual channels instead of two stereo channels that can be mixed "post production"? If this is the case, what s/w comes with this mixer, and ALSO, would you recommend it for a live setup as well? Thanks!
@mikeylonglegs The XENYX 2442USB ships with a USB/Audio Interface that enable the mixer to run straight into the USB port of your Mac, sending in a 2-track stereo mix. No drivers required, though you may need an adapter to connect the 1/4" outputs of the mixer to the RCA inputs of the USB/Audio Interface. Thanks for checking in!
I have protools 9 and i am gonna get a audio interface for my at4040 mic.Question is can i use the mixer as an interface or do i need to get an audio interface for my protools also.Do i need both.protools 9 know uses almost any interface now.
If i use this mixer to record drums, will it single out each output microphone while recording through logic pro. In other words, can i have each individual microphone as a seperate track?
@jesusofmaiden yea u can record drum if u have electric drums u can just plug them from the drum to the inputs or hook up mics to the to the drums and mic inputs for a more authentic sound
Say you have all channels hooked up to record a whole band, can you press record in a recording program like cubase, and it will record everything at once? or can it only record like 4 tracks at once? Thanks!
Say you have all channels hooked up to record a whole band, can you press record in a recording program like cubase, and it will record everything at once? or can it only record like 4 tracks at once? Thanks!
@melo477 The USB connection provides a 2-track stereo output, not discrete tracks. If that's what you're interested in, however, I'd encourage you to take a look at something we've got coming up at NAMM 2011!
1) As it's got usb port; does it mean it has an audio interface device built inside it, to improve the quality?
2) I need to conect a condenser microphone into it, I Know it needs the phantom power button on. but If I connect other types of microphones like dynamics microphones at the same time; Will all they work correctly with the phantom button on?
@armandvanheldenxyz 1) yes, this mixer has a built in interface so you can directly send your stereo mixer into your computer without requiring a specialty sound card. I believe the USB also serves as 2-track input as well.
2) Phantom has no effects on dynamic mics (some will argue differently). I have a Yamaha MG32 and the Phantom applies to 8 ch at a time. I only use 1 condenser and the rest dynamic, no problems.
@armandvanheldenxyz - sorry ran out of characters. But i recommend you to turn off the phantom if no condenser is not used. Even with Dyn. Mics, voltage is still applied to the mic and create unnecessary heating of your mixer ... which cuts the life of your gear -- hope this helps
1) The USB connection requires no additional interface devices. Plug and play!
2) We recommend turning phantom power off for using dynamic mics. Most dynamic mics will still function with +48v power turned on, but be careful! Vintage ribbon mics, in particular, can be damaged by misapplication of phantom power. If you HAVE to send +48v current to a dynamic mic, check the manual for whatever dynamic mic you are using first.
What are you saying when you mean a discrete track? Like I would have to know them personally in order to gain a cd seperately recorded? I may be a little confused lol
Okay, so its coming up to Christmas, and have been looking at the X1222, all the features interest me, but, I have been reading about these mixers, and have read a forum saying that you can not record multiple tracks at once. For example, if I wanted to record a guitar and bass on separate tracks, at the same time, would this be possible? or would I have to do them separately ?
@jasond27061993 You can record many inputs into the mixer simultaneously, and mix them down to a 2-channel stereo output. The USB connection does not offer discrete multichannel connectivity.
@behringer how many inputs though. can it record 7? because i need to put 7 mics into a mixer and than connect the mixer to a track on a multitrack recorder. can i connect it to a multitrack? please help
Is this something that can mute out certain parts of a song? say i put a red hot chili peppers cd and I want to mute out the drums, bass, and vocals and only want to hear guitar, is a piece of equipment like this a perfect candidate for that application??
@Sauron767 No, that would require that the Chili Peppers recording you have to contain discrete track information such as bass, drums, and vocals on separate tracks. Commercial CD's only contain a 2-track stereo mix.
@Sauron767 There is no equipment that I am aware of that can extract separate bass, guitar, drums, vocals, and other instruments out of a regular commercial audio CD. Commercial CDs only feature a 2-track stereo mix of all recorded instruments. For discrete instrument tracks (AKA original masters) you would need to contact the Red Hot Chili Peppers themselves, or perhaps their record labels or the studios where the songs were recorded. It's unlikely that they would give that information away. :(
@BlackAngusYoung ir would be similar to all mixers. an acoustic guitar straight in wwould be fine but an electric guitar would need to be amped and mic'd or use of a V-Amp like the beringer v-amp. or you could put an electric guitar straight in and use "guitar rig 3" in your computer software. but THE BEST quality is Always a good amp with a good mic.
You can plug a guitar directly into any mixer, but the signal would sound thin with out the amp. You can use a direct box, or the pre-amp output on an amp. Also a lot of software has amp modeling.
monitor bus (bypassing the stereo mix) so you cant record, then playback and overdub - if you try and overdub, the record signal coming back via USB will always be routed back to the stereo out from which you are trying to record an overdub... so the stereo L/R USB SEND will always carry the USB playback signal making a playback loop... or have i got that wrong?
@dancetech I think you are corrent. I have only had my a week but I have found no way around that issue. Than is a serious problem for me and I would not have bought it if I would have known that. I hope that I am wrong on that but so far I think not.
@CampaignGeetaur Hello.wouldnt multitracking be up to the studio your using?all you need to record is 1 channel,or are you talking about something else.
So, the USB function is essentially a USB audio interface linked to the stereo Mix output with the addition of the stereo return going through also... so the USB comes into play really at the recording stage when the mix is 'right'?
Behringer used to get a bit of criticism for the cross-talk on channels.... I take it this range of mixes has seen improvements in this area?

@behringer But if one person is recording all instruments, can the software be used for multi-track recording... if each instrument is recorded alone to the PC through the mixer?
@danny239 whoops! Looks like your question fell through the cracks back 9 months ago. :( Genuinely sorry about that. Just in case you didn't get your question answered, feel free to send us a direct message!
@danny239 No they do not. USB can only carry 2 channels simultaneous recording. In this cans everything going in to the mixer would be reduced to 2 channels, a left and a right. I own the X1622USB,

@danny239 Hey guys - the USB audio is stereo mix out and stereo return. Not individual track information. Thanks for your interest!

@behringer , ok so how would i get each channel on the mixer to record on individual tracks...? (im recording on logic pro)

@behringer But if one person is recording all instruments, can the software be used for multi-track recording... if each instrument is recorded alone to the PC through the mixer?

@behringer Ahhhhhhh I tought it was individual track.... :( For recording drums, it's a must!

@behringer Do you do any mixers that will route audio to separate DAW tracks via USB?

@aikighost I think that would require a firewire interface. USB1.1/2.0 cannot do it but I am not sure about the new USB 3.0

@danny239 The USB connection is a 2-channel stereo output. For multichannel, check out our new UFX1604!
