God my son (who's name is also Sam) loves this vid!! Obsession with the simplest things for a 3 1/2 year old are a great joy to see. I myself especially love your comment towards the end about Carol and Darryl's bins "We might have to check their bins later". Thank you.
I wasn't kidding. If they are out and about on rubbish day, and the neighbourhood bins have been emptied, Sam insists on my wife driving past Carol and Darryl's place to make sure their bin has been emptied. It's actually hard for my wife to get out of the house on bin day until they've seen the rubbish man...
Well tell your wife she's got it easy. If we're walking down a main shopping strip on bin day, Sam has to check EVERY SINGLE BIN to make sure it's empty. So a walk that would normally take about 10 minutes can sometimes take up to 1/2 an hour!!
No she doesn't. She cops that too. On holidays recently, some rainbow lorikeets perched on our verandah one morning. Miss Two shouted "Look over there! Lolikeets!" Sam shouted "Look down there! A rubbish truck!" Kids ...
You spotted the rubbish, I see. Actually, the video is only part rubbish. The rest of it is part Sam and part rubbish truck. Stay tuned for more exciting rubbish truck videos - we now have Tonkas.
My Sony TRV17e. I think it has 10x optical zoom. More important than what zoom power it has is (a) holding it steady when zooming (because shaking looks even worse) and (b) using zoom appropriately; it's better to move closer than rely on zoom.
I bought the Sony because it has a big and beautiful 3.5" LCD screen, most cameras have 2.5" at most. It is truly sweet. These days it would be considered a big chunky camera. I'll go high def one day soon :-)
Sam loves his sideloaders nearly as much as his frontloaders. Have a look at 1:17 as I zoom out, he was imitating the truck using his own bins. If I'd known that he does that, I would have captured it. Also, when watching frontloaders on YouTube, he'll imitate them with his arms. When a truck backs up, he holds his arms still and starts looking behind him. The kid's too cute :-)
Not being quite as obsessed as Sam, I'm probably not going to video them outside of our street. There's that whole "stalking" thing the drivers may worry about :-)
What can I say? He loves bins, he loves rubbish trucks. "Daddy, look at THAT bin - it's OVERFULL" or "It's tipped OVER" or one of the many other observations you can make about rubbish bins. "It's PURPLE!" would be my favorite.
very nice

these look like the garbo trucks I see in the complex where I live

@erikals2 This style is fairly common. I wouldn't be surprised if some big company like JJ Richards makes them all.
