Nice video man! Was indeed rly risky for your friend who caught the freebag. IMO, 250 USD freebag is not worth the risky he took by catching, but since everything worked alright is laugh time!
@MaksimSF Is "that famous drop zone...." the Parachute Center near Lodi CA? Good job on your emergency proceedure, the object is to survive. Was it your pack job? What kind of malfunction was it? If you reply you can use: orangesky10@hotmail.com
Nicely done!! Man you guys have big DZ's/Landing areas....
Had a go at my CAT 3, 2 wknds ago and my base had a combined of 6000 jumps, and the rear floater folded under the formation, ha... nice, must actually upload the footage :P
Hey I just wanted to share something about our DZ if you are in Northern California for a visit. I don't know what the plan is and I don't understand why, but the Parachute Center Flightline now has THREE Twin Otters, a Beech 99 and of course a C206. I asked Bill about that but if you know Bill you know less for the effort. I think it is safe to say The Parachute Center can accomodate your big way and at $15 per jump it is hard to beat. Acampo, CA.
AngryIndy - From my viewpoint seeing the crossed line that deformed the canopy I knew I could not safely land. This view does not capture the moment as intensely. In other words, you should have seen what I saw! The music I confess was chosen for length first and genre 2nd. It is Gary Anderson "All Wound Up" and is in the utube library of music for editing.
Good video, glad the reserve deployed properly. Not being a Skydiver myself, I found the cutaway footage from the view point of another jumper most interesting. As for the music, would you please tell me the artist and track title?
OTOH, you sound like a local...I don't think Bill was aware of the catch or if he was he never said anything. The main landed just west of the lawn so recovery was easy.
OTOH, catching a free-bag will distract you from other canopies that are close to the pattern, and that's seems to be the most popular way to kill yourself or someone else in this sport now a days. Also that was not even close to going in the vineyards.
Once and for all...the music is jazz, not porn or even significant. It was chosen not to distract from the content. If you are a skydiver, I hope you understand the content, if not, then learn about skydiving so you can comment with relevance. I am a former ABCNEWS editor who is certain if you find fault with the music, you do not understand the content and should go back to watching video games.
Yeah I must say that lesson aside this was not one of my better skydives for several reasons. Looking at this another way; serious things could have gone very bad but did not.
Steering lines terminate to the left and right steering toggles, ascend and cascade to the rear left and right tail of the canopy for steering, breaks, and flare. Lines that run through the slider, collapse the slider. This is to diminish slider drag, flapping and noise. I sometimes forget to collapse my slider and I have never noticed a difference in performance in flight or landing flare but the flapping noise stops.
tearsinraine, line twists are expected although not all parachutes have this problem. Mine always opens without line twist except for my first malfunction there is a link to my line twist malfunction in the annotations. We train for line twist and as long as there are not too many, it is easy to deal with. I doubt most would consider line twist a malfunction. My line twist locked and caused my main to spin.
It was Chris Conkrite (that is probally not how he spells his last name). While Chris has the experience to attempt this, even with that experience he still took a risk. This is dangerous no matter what experience level. BTW Say Hi to TJ for me when you see him. I've known that guy since he was a little kid out with his Dad at the Byron DZ.
Caught your open accordian video...cool. About off the DZ landing. My first malfunction was two miles from the DZ and a mile away from the nearest safe landing area but I pulled it off. The main goal is to survive the skydive. If you manage to recover your gear, thats all gravy.
Casual RW may take a full day or more of jumping with the same group before scoring any points. On this jump there was a broad range of body types and fall rates and this was the first time we had jumped together. If you are new and just learning RW, try to jump with a close group of simular body types and fall rates. Once it starts to click you will develop skills quickly.
All D licence holders? lol, doesn't make me feel so bad struggling to catch the formation with only having 70. Nice catch on the free bag red canopy, and my landing look like that anyways under my main, but i stood up my one reserve ride.
PlatZ: Scared is good...it will keep you safe. Injurys tend to happen to more experienced skydivers as confidence, complacency and bad habits replace fear. You can not fly without the technology. Never lose respect for that technology and you will have a long happy time in the sport.
Those are the steering lines. They pull down on the left and right side of the rear of the canopy and steer the canopy. They break or flare the canopy on landing.
Yea the slider is very loud and annoying when opened up like that. On larger canopies, your right the slider doesn't hinder the performance very much, but when you start downsizing it makes more of a difference.
@motorcyclevlogger Hmmm...I don't think you are a skydiver are you? By the way did you know that the notations have a toggle? Yeah you can just turn them off instead you have revealed what a jerk you are. I don't guess you get laid much either do you? Don't bother to reply you have been blocked. Cya

Why do you pull them two cords on the slider?
DreamsCatcher101 11 months ago
@DreamsCatcher101
Those are the steering lines. They pull down on the left and right side of the rear of the canopy and steer the canopy. They break or flare the canopy on landing.
orangeskydiver 11 months ago
@orangeskydiver I meant the ones @ 2:33 that bunch the slider up before you get hold of the steering toggles.
Is it just to stop it flapping in your face? The slider cant do much in the way of aerodynamics or wind resistance.
DreamsCatcher101 11 months ago
@DreamsCatcher101

Actually yes it can, especially on smaller canopies... Just get that dragging pilot chute out of the way...
