  • These posts are from several months ago - wonder if anyone got any more information????

  • Wow I love this commercial where I can see it ...................great for Mercedes.

    and the voices is sensational.

  • Is this real music or just made for the commercial. If its real whats the name

  • Sounds a little like the break in Paula Cole Rmx of I Believe In Love

  • Try this! Tell Me Why by Supermode!

  • Your source appears to be authoritative enough. OK so the music came from The Rumor Mill Sound Facility. Is there any reason to doubt *they* used the tune from Bronski Beat? The similarity is too close to think TRMSF spawned a tune that close to Smalltown Boy from scratch. One of Bronski's songs "Ain't Necessarily So" has ~0:30 worth of notes that sound hauntingly like The Doors' "Light My Fire. Start at about 2:33 me thinks. I bet they heard the song at lunch one day and it stuck in their head.

  • Good news and bad news; the bad is that according to everything I've read, the music was created specifically for this spot by New York sound facility The Rumor Mill. Comparing all the covers of Smalltown Boy to the ad seems to confirm this. Google "smoke & mirrors mercedes" for more info, including credit lists.

The good news is that thinkflame has an HD version available for download from their Vimeo page. Hit video number 1701619 on vimeo to see it, then sign up and log in to download.

  • It's a sample from "Small Town Boy" by Bronski Beat. I hope Bronski Beat are getting some royalties out of it.

  • Thanks for the info sks939. I'm getting ready to compare the two, your track and my sound bite which admittedly is a poor one. They do sound very similar; sounds like you nailed it so far:-)

I just looked up Bronski Beat and Small Town Boy in Wikipeadia. There's about 9 cover versions that could account for any differences in tempo and precise sound etc. But as I said it looks like you've solved my mystery. yaaaayyyyy!!!!

  • It could be that they thought they were sampling from September's song, Cry for You, which itself borrows from the Bronski Beat melody.

  • i want the music, without the voice... maybe a full version.

  • trueshowstoppa & jrcook320> Without any evidence to support me I disagree. I am learning through the net, blogs, and youtube type sites that commercials use music already created. They may loop, speed up, slow down and otherwise put their fingerprints on it but if we keep searching, we'll find it. I'm half way expecting it to be a tune from Moby or some indie no one knows. :-)

  • This is not entirely true. Audi is running two commercials in their Truth in Engineering series for their A4 and both songs were created specifically for the commercials. One called Separation and Notes on Progress. You can download the songs from TruthInEngineering(dot)com. You have to watch the Truth in A4 and Truth in Progress vids to get the mp3s.

  • My bad - I didn't mean to imply no one *ever* creates music for commercials, just that usually you'll find it on a CD somewhere. I'll check the Audi ads in a bit. Thanks for the lead.

  • Chances are, it was written by someone they contracted out for the commercial. I have been searching like crazy to see if it is part of a full song or something, but I don't think so. So the best I could do is learn it on the piano and play it for myself.

  • I've been searching for this too, along with teh music from the audi Q7 commercial, which appears to be have been contracted by audi specifically for that commercial. I would guess the same is true for this one.

  • YES! FREAKING FINALLY! I've been searching all over for this dang music!! Buuuut yeah... it seems we still don't know who it is. Dangit. :-/ I agree that it sounds like Coldplay, though. Want it!!!

  • Without the voice! The song is very relaxing!

  • who the hell is the music?

  • i've been trying to figure out who does this too.. it sort of has a coldplay sound to it, but i'm sure that it isn't them.. my guess would be somebody that i've never heard of.

  • yes please i just saw this and was looking all over youtube for it. pliz some1 if you know the song
