  • This could have been on "The Electric Company".

  • I can't spell the word without singing it under my breath. This is how I learned it.

  • My mother sang this to me when I was little, and now, at age 25, I have to sing this to spell it.

  • oh my gosh, I still sing this song in my head 55 or so years later! and yes, I learned to spell encyclopedia at an early age, lol!

  • @russ2jen Me too!!

  • Google it :)

  • Why use the Encyclopedia, when you can go to Wikipedia...where people pull information out of their asses?

  • W-I-K-I-P-E-D-I-A! (For modern day misinformation at the press of a button!)

  • yeah but most of the stuff in the encyclopedia IS TRUE!!!!

  • @BirdsofParis notice the use of the word MISinformation in my previous post

  • Believe it or not this is the reason why I can spell encyclopedia with out any help XD

  • @ArArYdden Yes, I could spell encyclopedia at a very young age because of this. I find it interesting looking back on it, that I didn't remember the first part as going to the same song.

  • I had this song stuck in my head as I was driving home tonight, so I decided to see if I could find it. Thanks for posting.

And yes, these days people use the internet to get information. The difference is that the encyclopedia is usually accurate. :)

  • mrs. gawler is obsessed with this

  • @mrfailford ya she is E-N-C-Y-C-L-O-P-E-D-I-A

    oh ya and

A Rat In The House Might Eat The Ice Cream

  • @cAnDyAdDiCt13 ikr

  • @mrfailford yes, yes i am

  • does he spell it wrong?

  • My Dad learned how to spell Encyclopedia through this and he taught me how to spell it with this song.

  • 0:58 Jiminy did the kazatzka

  • ah~ back before the rise of the internet search engine >:)

  • J-C ...hmmmm what other name has these initials. ?

  • @InowOwn3Hammonds Funny you should notice that, because Jiminy Cricket (or Christmas) is actually an archaic phrase used in place of the when people curse Jesus Christ. So yes, they named this cute little cartoon character after a substitute curse.

  • disney is the best

  • Ya Know what's sad about this in the 21st. Century???

"Here's What To Do For Curiosity,. On the Internet, __there is Wikipedia.

    W-I-K-I-P-E-D-I-A."

    Uh-Uh. It JUST doesn't SOUND RIGHT!!! ;^)

    AWWWWW___Stupid Future!

Whoops? Sorry! Homer Simson got in this post, somehow, with his opnion!

  • This song gets stuck in my head easily.

  • A classic!

  • cool :-)

  • Yup, I know how to spell encyclopedia because of this song.

  • Is that Hal Smith doing the voice for Jiminy?

  • Modern day: Replace the "Encyclo" with "Wiki"

  • What about.....

    G-O-O-G-L-E

    I think it's pretty fun.

  • DO some one know how many those Encyclopedia entries were?

  • Now spell encyclopedia:

    G-O-O-G-L-E

  • it is true Jiminy has his own movie? my gf says he is on a mushroom relating his life to the little Jiminy xD someone can tell me the name of this movie plx :<

  • @arathornknight Pinocchio

  • Get the enn... cy-clo-pe-dia (dramatica).

  • Jiminy Cricket gets mad props for fitting the spelling of "encyclopedia" into the meter of the song so smoothly in this quick little gem!

  • I love Jiminy!

  • Jiminy sure is smart for such a little guy!

  • Today i think people usually use the internet for information lol.

  • True, but it's no where near as fun to spell!

  • Jiminy Cricket has always been one of my favorite disney characters.

  • I first became aware of the "Encyclopedia" segment on Mickey Mouse Club back in July 2000, when my own mother told that this was her favourite part of Mickey Mouse Club (along with singing the "Encyclopedia" segment to me as well).

However, one difference being from Canada; and, that is we pronounce the letter Z as "Zed", not "Zee".

  • Lol, he gets kicked in the butt, and keeps on singing.

  • Cute tune, expect in Australia we spell it with an 'a' in it..Encyclopaedia

  • ......As well as Canada, and of course, the United Kingdom.

  • "Get the encyclopedia, E-N-C-Y-C-L-O-P-E-D-I-A, if you want to know the answer, here's the way." And Jiminy's right!

  • If this were made today he'd likely be singing the praises of W-I-K-I-P-E-D-I-A.

  • More than certain.

  • LOL I was born during those times and what

    memories this brings back! Thanks!

  • Lol. Just think...how many people wouldn't know how to spell encyclopedia if it wasn't for this song!

  • @KHFan i still use this song to spell encyclopedia ;-))

  • I love this video and I use it in school to advertise the encyclopedia. The kids love it! BUT lately I cannot get it to load. Other videos load for me but this one doesn't. Any ideas about what the problem could be?

  • I've had that issue before. It could be that your computer takes a while to load videos of a certain length.

  • Jimmie Dodd wrote the song for these 1956-'58 informational segments....in the 1957-'58 season, this sequence was primarily used to introduce live-action segments.

  • I was just thinking the same thing, in today's world you may as well replace 'encyclopedia' with 'internet'. Everyone just says "Google it" nowadays :P

  • Encyclopedia? That word should be replaced with Google or Wikipedia, cause you don't get to use the Encyclopedia in todays world!

  • Is that one of the Siamese Cats from Lady and the Tramp in the Jiminy Cricket Encyclopedia opening?

  • i don't think so. It doesn't look like any of them.

  • In my own opinion I feel as though the quality of what Walt Disney produced far exceeds anything being made today, I enjoy the Pixar animation and marvel at the quality. Maybe I'm biased because I grew up watching this. I would be willing to bet that alot of children never heard of Jiminy Cricket. And that is because The Disney Channel has completey changed course. I think that needs to change.

  • Jimmy Cricket is my favorite character from Pinocchio. ^^ Great vid.

  • Cliff Edwards is great. There are a couple of songs by him at archive dot org as well -- "I Like Mountin Wimmen" is the title that sticks out in my mind.

  • Thanks to Jiminy Cricket's song, the longest word I could spell by Grade 2 was "ENCYCLOPEDIA." I'm sure other kids benefitted in this manner. (The other big word I learned to spell early was "MISSISSIPPI," thanks to another song I heard on one of those old "follow the bouncing ball" sing-along cartoons on television.)

  • Great Video! I love Jiminy Cricket! I'm hoping to see more videos of him. xD ^.^;

  • This is the greatest.

  • Why isn't anyone else commenting this? It's a great video.

  • Very good. I love this video.
