  • @cpercell18 first of all the uniforms are specially designed for the band by Nike and perform better than the wool and shit stain uniforms that other schools have been wearing since the civil war. Oregon is changing with the times. The football team is a top ten program, and the band is made for Oregon fans. We don't care about parades, it's sunny in Oregon maybe 5 times a year. We don't have parades. The Oregon band is about having fun and getting the fans excited and that's why autzen in one

  • I might think they were a decent band if they wore band uniforms, not track suits and had the courage to show up in Dallas for the beat down they received this year. I gave Ducks fans a break before the game when they said their band was good but after hearing them in the Rose Bowl Parade they are nowhere in the same league as the Golden Band From Tiger Land nor many other band in college. They are at the bottom of the pile.

  • HaHaHa, The duck band is not even close to being in the same league as the BDMITL....amusing that someone would even think that!

  • I'm not a huge fan of the uniforms, but that doesn't mean I'm going to talk shit about this band. I love this band and I think they performed well, and I think people should start being mature and just appreciate the music instead of saying "OSU is better" etc.

  • Let me make it clear, my comments made no remarks toward the Oregon band and their performance. I think they are a good band. I only said their unis were hideous.

  • @Nugent4Heisman you're not doing the OSUMB any favors by trying to win internet arguments on their behalf. convincing someone their band sucks is like trying to convince them their sports team sucks. it's counterproductive, pisses them off, and makes you look like a douchebag.

  • @robespierrebeauregar

    Seriously.

  • @Mikelikes2rock we dont try to compete. we try to be the best.

  • @Mikelikes2rock i dont know what pep band plays "heard it through the grapevine"...its not very peppy.. but i would love to see oregon play that arrangement that i guarantee is not identical or even similar. you obviously can't analyze music bud. i don't ever bash bands, i compare them from an unbias stand point and the fact is OSU and the big ten is far superior to Pac-10.

  • @Mikelikes2rock funny like how the world laughed at your bike helmets or uniforms? or funny like "haha we sound like a high school band"? which one is it? where is your sudler trophy? it's been awarded 26 times ..if you haven't won it by now, im sure it was a pure oversight by collegiate directors

  • As an attendee of the game who sat in the endzone, I can say that the Oregon band was nearly inaudible from my seat whereas Ohio State's band was very clear and loud. I thought perhaps they far outnumbered the Oregon band (certainly a much larger school) but according to the program that was not the case. Also of note, a couple of people near us starting booing the Oregon band during their halftime show and when I turned to give them a disapproving look...turns out they were Oregon fans.

  • i love marching bands they are a huge part of college football. but this is pathetic. those arent uniforms and what kind of marching band has a pit. what is this hs band?

  • @bananapudding01 What do you mean what kind of marching band has a pit? Alot of marching bands have pits. In fact, many of the best do. It may not be traditional, but that doesn't undermine the fact that it is still a marching band.

  • Wow, those band uniforms are LAME!!! What a disgrace wearing those in the Rose bowl. We know Nike owns your school, but please save your commercials for Autzen. Cheap!!!

  • The video is really good, looks the same as the one I saw and enjoyed on New Years Day. What I find disappointing is the amount of disrespect shown in these comments. Music is art. If you believe your band or uniform is better that is your opinion. You have a right to it, but to be so vindictive and critical is really juvenile. Take a lesson from the teams who played the game and show a little good sportsmanship.

  • @Supser i agree however that being said i am going to be a hypocrite, those are by far the worst "band uniforms" i have ever seen

  • Comment removed

  • @delmar688 The fact you put quotes on band uniforms, tells me there is room for opinions. Nike designs the band uniforms and they are quite contemporary. While traditionalists may prefer the older style I would be willing to bet the Duck uniforms are much better in the rain. My son is in the band and they have multiple outfits designed for varying weather conditions. Good luck in school and I hope you make it into the band.

  • Wow, there are some bad comments insulting the Oregon band that have been pretty unprovoked. And from OSU band members nonetheless. I really hope you're not an accurate representation of the type of class your band chooses to represent itself with.

  • @Saxophoneguy2001 Don't let the immature comments color your opinion of the OSUMB. Most bandsmen respect other college marching bands and recognize their hard work and dedication. The OSUMB takes pride in what it does well and can appreciate other bands, like Oregon, that do the same.

  • You guys also have Bike Helmets for God's sake!!!!!!

  • 1.21 gigawatts!! I LOVE IT!

  • Why is this band in sweats and goofy hats? Is this a lame nod to the future...they need some help

  • @pfcdrummond Well, those "sweats" and "goofy hats" were designed by Nike. They are NOT travel gear, those are our actual marching uniforms. I'll also add that those uniforms are VERY comfortable to perform in, not at all like those uncomfortable, wooly regular uniforms that overheat in the Pasadena sun.

  • GREAT SCOTT!!!!!

  • for those are are arguing GROW UP! Clearly this was posted for the purely awesome fact they played a score from Back To The Future. If your going to be children and argue go do it somewhere else cause no one cares about your petty BS.

  • abc, you're lame for cutting the music off.

  • the point is.....they played effing BACK TO THE FUTURE!!!!!!!

a lot of it too, more than i ever learned on the guitar.

you guys need to stop arguing

  • Can't we all be proud that they're playing the score from Back to the Future?

  • Wisconsin??? Please. Its called the Sudler Trophy peeps... look it up. Ohio State Marching band won it in its third year out and niether Wisconsin or Oregon has won it in its 28 years of exsistence.

  • dr woods cant censor us? im pretty sure criticiszm is allowed...especially when people are uneducated, singing praise to a lackluster band. im not bringing shame, this video is

  • actually it was a question. there was an inflection on it but obviously you didn't pick up on it. I really don't care that you enjoy michigans style.. i enjoy good bands

  • Nugent- what are these 'charges' and 'investigations' you speak of? I'm curious.

  • I thought both bands played and marched well. Where I saw the biggest differences were in the two bands drumlines. One represents a progressive drum corps style where the other is very traditional - using slings and having the drummers all wear white gloves. I much prefer Oregons drumline over Ohio States. Ive marched in both styles and wearing clean white cotton gloves makes it impossible to play a decent roll.

  • I play the snare for OSU and I can guarantee that a clean roll can be played with gloves. I marched corps style in high school and have also experienced both styles of drumlines.

  • Nice job Oregon. But are those speakers at the 38-yard lines?

  • yes. they had a guitar.. or bass. Didn't see it just heard it

  • If he had read the subsequent articles regarding our temporary ban from one game during the 2008 season, he would of course know that the investigation by the University of Wisconsin found no foul play worthy of the bands punishment. Although an apology was never released officially, the entire case was dismissed. Get your facts straight, it makes you look stupid when you're wrong. OSU is very good. We're better.

Oregon did what they knew how to do, and did it well. Props.

  • yes, roll stepping at a fast tempo would be pretty difficult. i mean, how many people can walk quickly? and script ohio, man. follow the leader? you can really hang your hat on your main attraction be something six year olds do for fun.

  • they roll step in DCI at even faster tempos than script ohio... it is possible, but not easy

  • some up to 200 BPM!

  • its not a follow the leader but nice try! Every part of it is measured out and counted, crossovers are timed, flashes used. You'd be amazed how difficult it can be, using chair step. But then again you aren't in TBDBITL so you wouldnt know

  • @Nugent4Heisman dude SHUT THE HELL UP, all you are doing is making every osu fan look like a giant jackass. i mean for real. and before you bash me, i live in ohio, i have always been an ohio state fan (wearing ohio state gear the day after losing the national championship...both times), i go to ohio state, and i am trying out for the band (i am a freshman). so for real...shut up man

  • BULLSHIT. Wisconsin is a joke. When all your members memorize music, you can talk. When you guys aren't suspended, you can talk. OSU and MSU wipe the field with you guys....and we march every home game

  • As far as my comment about marching. I will give you that I was probably a little harsh. Again, I think OSU definitely marches better than most college bands. But as far as technique and maintaining forms and intervals, college bands just aren't great at it. They don't have the time to spend to get great at it, so I wouldn't expect them to be good. With that said, you have to like the energy OSU's band projects.

  • much more accurate statements. agree 100%

  • I never said Ohio State was not excellent. I think as far as college bands go, they are the best. I am a huge fan of theirs. I was just saying that the Oregon band's performance wasn't as bad as everyone said it was.

As for your comments about the "educated community..."

First of all, I am a brass player, and after playing John Williams in orchestra, I think he writes some technically challenging brass parts and harmonies. I thought Oregon did OK with them.

  • Just so you know, John Williams didn't compose any of the Back to the Future music.

  • I simply don't understand all the criticism about how this band sounds. They played with great balance and had a more challenging repertoire than Ohio State. This is coming from an OSU fan.

As for the visual performance... I have never seen a college band that marches well. I don't hold that against them.

  • i encourage you to actually watch a show and listen to the osu music. it is widely known that osu attempts some of the most difficult music while marching precisely. i find it funny that you say you've never seen a band march well... either your expectations are too high and you want perfection or you have no idea what good marching is. i guarantee you OSU is excellent at marching and playing. ask the educated community...really.i don't know what you are judging on but you sound quite bitter

  • The uniforms don't make the band look athletic. They look like they woke up, went for a mall walk, then went to the Rose Bow.

  • Too many bands have great uniforms, rigidly straight lines, and a terrible sound. The focus of a band should be making great music. Uniforms are totally secondary! (BTW, I think these look great!). Great Show, Great Sound, Go Ducks!

  • I'm in the Oregon Marching Band, and personally I like the uniforms. They're really comfortable. Sure, they don't look like most other marching band uniforms, but that's because we are an athletic band and we try to distinguish ourselves as such.

  • but.. you guys aren't anymore athletic than any other band. In fact, I would contend that 90% of the bands are more athletic especially OSU and OU. Uniforms, you can't control. The weak sound and poor alignment...need help

  • I get the digs on the uniforms but weak sound? Are you expecting it to be blaring over a video? It's badass, balanced, and not weak. Even after playing the parade.

Maybe we're not the most "athletic" band out there, but most (definitely more than 10%) college bands do park and bark more than we do. I understand why and have respect for them, but we don't do that. You can't argue that more movement doesn't equal more athletic.

  • yea i can? movement is not athletic. movement can be athletic. roll step at 120bpm wont require an athletic person. 6 oregon kids falling out of the rose bowl parade..explain it? osu had none in wool uniforms with dress shirts on. i heard the band. everyone heard the band. the band was ignored by the entire stadium. if you believe otherwise, you are plain wrong. the star spangled banner,...what was that? just disappointing overall. i understand most of this is a directing choice.. but wow...

  • Ohio St. fan + arguing on a Oregon halftime show video = low class. Oregon is corps style....OSU is military style. Apples and oranges, brosef. The members didn't pick the show, style of marching, or the uniforms. So arguing with them just makes you look bad.

  • how is an opinion low class? i know different styles. doesn't change the poor musicianship. I understand what a band member does but i doubt you do. Oregons uniforms make them look bad... get an education idiot

  • I marched 4 years in high school, 4 years in college, and 1 year in DCI. Don't give me that bullshit dude, and your opinion is dog shit when you go (as fan of Ohio St.) and diss another school's band. Be it Michigan, Penn St., or any school. Have some respect for other music ensembles and be humble. If you're a band member (as you say you are) then you should have some respect for other band members. They're practicing and bustin' their ass just like you. cool? kthanks.

  • Where did you hear that we had 6 fall outs from the parade? Because that is simply incorrect.

If you want good information, I can tell you that we actually had marchers with mono, marchers with kidney infections, and colorguard with pulled muscles and fractured bones that *finished* the parade.

  • or i talked to the a few of the band members before the game, having 2 admit they fell out and they said 4 others did too. but hey.. maybe you guys are just full of liars! and i don't care about all these problems, you pretty much walk through the parade in jump suits. you are an idiot. spend less time on youtube, more time on practice. you guys need it

  • If Nike or Under Armour made my University's uniforms, I'd prolly jizz my pants. The band has a good sound and marching technique. Good job!

  • LOL!! Athletic band?!?

  • ya, Nike wanted them to look athletic...don't know if they achieved that but oh well. Oregon fans like em

  • The ugliest uniforms in the history of marching bands. I feel bad for the kids that have to wear these.

  • I agree. Nike doesn't have a clue what they are doing in this department. Although at least they get to wear baseball caps. I'd shose that over a shako any day.

But cowboy hats top them all.

  • I think you mean Aussies. :P

  • I like them...plus they're comfortable as shit haha

  • Yes, they do look comfortable. At least they are better than the capes worn in the early 90's ;-)

  • I loved my cape :)

  • @lacrymist1976

Feel bad all you want man. We're getting a shitload of free things and getting paid to play.
