@Eagle6402 As one who struggles with the problems that alcohol use creates, I am praying for and with you. Every phrase of Gloria's words to this beautiful tune can stand alone as reminders for us, daily. All except two; "And when relationships, demand commitment, Then I'll be there to care and follow through." Wonderful lyrics that does beautifully justice to our famous national composer Jean Sibelius (1865-1957) from Finland whose melody "Finlandia Hymn" this is. Every Finn will stand up when hearing this :)
I heard this song for the very first time a few days ago. Been listening to it ever since. Try to sing all the different voices with each time I hear(of course that high tenor and bass part are really hard to do). This song blesses me everytime I hear it!!! What do you do when you're blessed so much? You praise God!!
This is absolutely one of the most anointed, prayerful, heartfelt songs that I have heard in the past decade. Praise the Lord fro the beautiful gift of music in the Gaither family and friends throughout the years!
Welcome to the family LilyofFlanders. This is an awesome song. Everytime I listen to it, it touches my heart so much. Thank you Jesus fo songs and singers such as these men.
I refer to this version everytime I need a boost (and I cry). As an amatuer singer and musician, just to answer a previous question about the bass singer; It is the short man beside Bill Gather. You can see when it calls for bass, me bows his chin, brings the mike to his lips and goes down an octave. As a baratone, I know how it is to sing one octave above and then one below when singing in C.
This song brings me closer to the Lord everytime I hear it. CG
beautiful........seem like everyday i find a new favourite from this group, truly a blessing. i always feel so encouraged listening to them when i'm down and feel as if life is not worth living. God is good and is working through them..............imagine heaven; mmmmmmmmm
I have been listening to this over and over during the last 6 weeks, and I still get goosebumps (at the same places). Gaither has a great voice and God has blessed him with others who makes his voice even more harmonious. I like all the songs and am blessed beyond measure.

This song is bittersweet for me . Bitter because it shows how fallen I am in my own life and how desperatly i need to continue to become more and more like Christ ... but sweet at the same time because of what Christ has fulfilled and promised us as brothers and sisters and Gods Children
great song and great orchestration. but the lyrics don't compare to the originals "Be still my soul" check them out :) you'll love them guys!!! God bless you all
Oh! Praise God & may His Magnificent Name alone be glorified. The lyrics to this song is so beautifully arranged and well written. And the music....my God...is so soothing and it lifts my soul. It makes me want to keep on singing this song. It is more like our love song to our HEAVENLY FATHER. Thank you God for the wonderful gift of your Precious Son, our Lord & Savior...JESUS CHRIST!
Maykar, classical tunes and themes are very often used in various forms of music. In this instance a Christian wrote the words, a Christian group is performing, on a very apparent Christian oriented post. The message is not about the impossible attaining of perfection in this life, but about believing in and following the example of Christ and his teachings during our journey. You're certainly welcome. Listen, hear, contemplate, enjoy, but why criticize something you don't understand?
Let us all remember these precious words written as believers on how we are to live, we are the example of Christ who lives in us and for all the world to see.
This is ABSOLUTELY Humbling and Inspiring! I love Gaither and His group! These precious people have for many years taught the world of being christlike through their music and have touched many lives around the world!! After all!! there is only one important thing to God himself...and that is....to Love One Another as Jesus loved us!! Thank you for these beautiful talents and for these willing men to serve God!! Blessings to you all!!
A beautiful comment wdeadman49 and I appreciate it. However, you might wish to tone it down a bit, since not all of us (including myself) are into religion. Not even into the Christian variety :)
maykar, what are you doing listening then. Leave us alone and go listen to some rap or whatever. Nobody's forcing you. These are Christians singing, a Christian wrote it, and we're the ones who appreciate it.
@halmedlin01. I love music and the way these people perform, is nothing short of fabulous. But the composer, Jean Sibelius, was no devout Christian and the words that have been grafted to the tune, have little to do with the original composition. I feel anyone, Christian or no Christian, is entitled to enjoy this beautiful performance. I do not wish to crash into a party of true believers, and I do enjoy this interpretation of the tune. I don't understand why I should "leave you alone"?
@ evegpt. But I do pay attention to the words, I do!
I just don't think this kind of perfection is attainable, not in this world it isn't. As per halmedlin01's comment: he/she would close the door to me because I'm no true believer! That scares the h**l out of me. I love the music, I love the words, I love the voices...
I'm no Christian that's true. But that this music were out of bounds for me to listen to, this I do not understand :(
You are welcome and encouraged to listen, as Jesus himself stated. Come as you are. God did not send his Son into the world to condemn anyone but to let them know the good news (gospel) that they can be saved because of what he did on that cross for you maykar. He offers you Everlasting life and all you have to do is believe in what he did for you. . Why would you reject so great a salvation? God loves you in your inperfection as he loves all of us. NO one is perfect here, just forgiven.
@evegpt, looking back at my post, I feel there was no criticizing. I love the music as all of us who have heard it certainly do. All I did, was to point out that even us 'heathens' can and do appreciate the outcome of this particular rendition. Thank you for the comment!
I just heard this one tonight. This is very anointed and is heart grabbing. Powerful message. Need to listen to this daily and let the cross be in us!
I heard this for the first time last night at the GVB Reunited concert in Richmond. Oh my goodness, It was breathtaking! Awesome song and an awesome song writer (Gloria Gaither) :)
Would Not That Song, {We Than Shall Live} Have Been A Wonderful Song To Be Sung At The Olympics In Vancouver, Canada; For No Gold Medal Will Ever Be A Price to Pay For A Lost Life
And Probably A Lost Soul: Only Freedom And The Blood Of Jesus Is Worth Dying For:
Well...that's how you get saved basically. It's from the Word of God. (Bible). Pretty much you make an honest plea to Jesus and ask him into you heart. The by reading the Bible we discover what Jesus says and does and so we copy him, like "Simon Says". And thus we hope to acheive life everlasting.
ur right. & u cant work to get into Heaven. Jesus died for us on the cross. we must believe in THE GOSPEL!(the Death,Burial & Ressurection) & ask JESUS to forgive us of our sins, & ask him to come into our hearts & save us. then we r saved. its not by works. & we dont ask Him agin & agin to save us. once He saves us that it. He will never leave us nor forsake us.
Once saved, always saved is not Biblical. Yes, Jesus died for our sins but that doesn't mean we get to do whatever we please. We must imitate ourselves after Jesus if we ever wish to sincerely obtain our salvation.
yes it is. wen u get saved THE HOLY SPIRIT comes & lives within u forever. & ur right we SHUDNT do the evil things that we do. but, we sin & we dont even realize it. theres no way u cud do enuff good things to earn ur way into Heaven. if that was so, then JESUS wud not hav needed to go to Calvary. but ur right. we SHUD do good things. BUT, its by the blood of JESUS & JESUS ALONE! that paid our way into Heaven. NOT good works. we just hav to accept wut HE did & ask for forgivness & HIM to save us
My dear child, I'm not saying that we don't need Jesus, of course we do. If you have truely accepted Jesus into your heart you will naturally do good works and be not opposed to them and thus you make your quota. But if you accept Jesus into your heart and do good works when you feel like it, you won't go to Heaven. You must seek first the Kingdom of God, that is, working your way towards salvation, to enjoy the graces of God through the sacraments which Jesus ministers to us through.
now wait a minute. ur right. if u get saved GOD WILL USE U. BUT!
"But if you accept Jesus into your heart and do good works when you feel like it, you won't go to Heaven." that statement is rong. wen ur saved ur always saved. GOD does not leave u. once saved, ALWAYS saved. & like i said, u cant work for or to salvation. its impossible. JESUS Dying for us was a GIFT. not sumthing we cud ever earn. u can not earn the kingdom of GOD. u CANT earn JESUS'S salvation.
God isn't conditioned to only use saved people. He'll use anyone for the good of all the people. Good things happen to "bad" people too. Hell exists. If you take Jesus' dying as the "complete" forgiveness of all sin then there is no reason for hell since we're all saved. He didn't die just for those who accept him, he died for "all" sinners. Jesus died to cancel the origional sin. All sins that we choose (and we always have a choice) to commit are up to us to seek individual forgiveness.
This is because we can now be filled with the Spirit, so when we choose to sin we infact go against the Spirit. We are now able, thank to Jesus, to be made aware and feel remorse for sinning and we can go directly to him for forgiveness as opposed to the old way of trying in vain to follow 613 rules so that we may become righteous.
For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith - and this not from yourselves, it is a gift of God - not by works, so that no one can boast. Ephesians 2:8-9
The Holy Spirit does convict us of our sins and we should ask for forgiveness, but salvation is through God's grace. Grace is receiving something we don't deserve and are incapable of earning. We don't deserve eternal life in heaven, but God provided the way through Jesus sacrifice to account for our sins (John 3:16).
ur right. but i meant that if u get saved then GOD will really use u for his wrok wich is his GOSPEL. that wut si meant. but ur right. HE uses every1. now wait a minute. how else can u go to Heaven unless u r completely forgiven? GOD dont half do things. JESUS DIED FOR EVERY SIN. ANY & ALL sins by every person, past, present & future. & u dont get saved until u ask JESUS to forgive u & save u. its ur choice wether to repent or not to be saved. HE DIED for ur sins. but U hav to repent.
& ur right. HE died for evry1. HE paid the debt for every1's sin. BUT EVERY1 still has to accept wut JESUS did & repent. "I tell you, Nay: but, except ye repent, ye shall all likewise perish."-Luke 13:3
no it doesnt. ok. at 1st. ur not saved. u hav not repented & ur goin to hell. u ask JESUS to forgive u of ur sins & save u. JESUS saves u & forgives ur sins that u hav ever done in ur life & GOD will remember those sins no mor, ever, up to the point that u got saved. BUT! wen u get saved, THE HOLY SPIRIT will come into u & stay with u forever. every sin THEN that u do, u will hav to giv a account. & u still hav to ask JESUS to forgive u. u ask him to forgive ur sins still, not to save u agin.
But Jesus already died for our sins whether we choose him our not. Whether you accept Jesus or not doesn't change the fact that he's died for your sins. This is true, "once saved, always saved" theology. But you see now you're leaning towards what I said, that "once saved, always saved" in unbiblical, since you now have to edit Christ and his mercy to that your only saved if you accept him, which is a work in itself. Yet you say works don't get you saved.
yes. ur right. he did. BUT! to be saved we must repent of sin & ask him to forgive us. then its lik i said about THE HOLY SPIRIT. then we ask to be forgiven of the new sins we commit. lik if we get saved & tell a lie, we still hav to repent. ?. how can u repent for sumthing u havent dun yet? yes JESUS DIED for that sin, but agin u still hav to repent for that sin. & by works THE HOLY BIBLE means giving money to sum1 or feeding the poor. thats works. askin Jesus to forgiv u & save u is a choice.
Wait, wait. We're getting off topic. You're supposed to defend "once saved always saved", and I'm supposed to do everything I can to prove to you that it is a false and unbiblical. For example, no where in the Bible does it clearly state or even hint at "once saved, always saved" This is a modern belief that came about in the 1800's because protestantism was becoming liberal and secular. That's where fundamentalists came from. They were concernced conservative protestants.
There are some of us who like to split hairs over the difference between accept and receive. I never invite people to accept Jesus. It implys that He must be acceptable to the individual, elevating them and demeaning Him. I always (and a few historical theologians) ask people to receive Jesus. You receive a gift. It is NOT a work. It is simply surrendering to God's claim on your life. He gives the grace, we respond with gratitude, not deals or works or bargins.
There are some theologians who go to great lengths to explain the intricate interplay of preserverence and preservation. It's not something that can be simplified into a compact little slogan. We have the responsibility to preservere, but it is actually only by God's grace that we can do that. So He gets all the glory. But for those who are truely saved, He will always enable them. So there is an eternal security, but it's not flippant or irresponsible.
I cannot listen to this song enough! It is only because of His mercy and grace that I dare attempt to pray this pray, may I ever be Lord more like Thee!
What heavenly bliss this song gives us ! What truth and confidence the singers break forth from their soul ! Glory be to God ! It is not I who live but the life that I now live in the flesh I live by the faith of the Son of God ! Amen
whew......I think I am going to let this be my prayer. God bless buddy for posting that. That really touched my heart. I've been needing to hear that. Thank you so much.

Sad how Jean Sibelius' beautiful original melody has been arranged to something so rough and simple as this. And to know how the lyrics I grew up with (and which fit the mood of the melody perfectly), about freedom and nation's rising from the ashes after a war, are changed into something religious is just beyond my comprehension.

These are Christians singing, a Christian wrote it, and we're the ones who appreciate it.
halmedlin01 2 years ago
@halmedlin01. I love music and the way these people perform, is nothing short of fabulous. But the composer, Jean Sibelius, was no devout Christian and the words that have been grafted to the tune, have little to do with the original composition. I feel anyone, Christian or no Christian, is entitled to enjoy this beautiful performance. I do not wish to crash into a party of true believers, and I do enjoy this interpretation of the tune. I don't understand why I should "leave you alone"?
maykar2 2 years ago
Maybe you will change your mind on down the road. In the meantime, pay attention to the words and not just to the beautiful voices.
evegpt 2 years ago
But that this music were out of bounds for me to listen to, this I do not understand :(
maykar2 2 years ago

Or! Accept Jesus Christ and immitate him through works of love.
Gethsemaneful 2 years ago
wut do u mean.
howtogetsaved 2 years ago
Well...that's how you get saved basically. It's from the Word of God. (Bible). Pretty much you make an honest plea to Jesus and ask him into you heart. The by reading the Bible we discover what Jesus says and does and so we copy him, like "Simon Says". And thus we hope to acheive life everlasting.
Gethsemaneful 2 years ago
He will never leave us nor forsake us.
howtogetsaved 2 years ago
Once saved, always saved is not Biblical. Yes, Jesus died for our sins but that doesn't mean we get to do whatever we please. We must imitate ourselves after Jesus if we ever wish to sincerely obtain our salvation.
Gethsemaneful 2 years ago
yes it is. wen u get saved THE HOLY SPIRIT comes & lives within u forever. NOT good works. we just hav to accept wut HE did & ask for forgivness & HIM to save us
howtogetsaved 2 years ago
My dear child, I'm not saying that we don't need Jesus, of course we do. If you have truely accepted Jesus into your heart you will naturally do good works and be not opposed to them and thus you make your quota. But if you accept Jesus into your heart and do good works when you feel like it, you won't go to Heaven. You must seek first the Kingdom of God, that is, working your way towards salvation, to enjoy the graces of God through the sacraments which Jesus ministers to us through.
Gethsemaneful 2 years ago
now wait a minute. ur right. if u get saved GOD WILL USE U. BUT!
"But if you accept Jesus into your heart and do good works when you feel like it, you won't go to Heaven." that statement is rong. wen ur saved ur always saved. GOD does not leave u. once saved, ALWAYS saved. & like i said, u cant work for or to salvation. its impossible. JESUS Dying for us was a GIFT. not sumthing we cud ever earn. u can not earn the kingdom of GOD. u CANT earn JESUS'S salvation.
howtogetsaved 2 years ago
God isn't conditioned to only use saved people. He'll use anyone for the good of all the people. Good things happen to "bad" people too. Hell exists. If you take Jesus' dying as the "complete" forgiveness of all sin then there is no reason for hell since we're all saved. He didn't die just for those who accept him, he died for "all" sinners. Jesus died to cancel the origional sin. All sins that we choose (and we always have a choice) to commit are up to us to seek individual forgiveness.
Gethsemaneful 2 years ago
This is because we can now be filled with the Spirit, so when we choose to sin we infact go against the Spirit. We are now able, thank to Jesus, to be made aware and feel remorse for sinning and we can go directly to him for forgiveness as opposed to the old way of trying in vain to follow 613 rules so that we may become righteous.
Gethsemaneful 2 years ago

HE DIED for ur sins. but U hav to repent.
howtogetsaved 2 years ago
& ur right. HE died for evry1. HE paid the debt for every1's sin. BUT EVERY1 still has to accept wut JESUS did & repent. "I tell you, Nay: but, except ye repent, ye shall all likewise perish."-Luke 13:3
howtogetsaved 2 years ago
But you see, that contradicts your theory of "once saved, always saved"
Gethsemaneful 2 years ago
no it doesnt. ok. at 1st. ur not saved. u hav not repented & ur goin to hell. u ask JESUS to forgive u of ur sins & save u. & u still hav to ask JESUS to forgive u. u ask him to forgive ur sins still, not to save u agin.
howtogetsaved 2 years ago
But Jesus already died for our sins whether we choose him our not. Whether you accept Jesus or not doesn't change the fact that he's died for your sins. This is true, "once saved, always saved" theology. But you see now you're leaning towards what I said, that "once saved, always saved" in unbiblical, since you now have to edit Christ and his mercy to that your only saved if you accept him, which is a work in itself. Yet you say works don't get you saved.
Gethsemaneful 2 years ago
yes. ur right. he did. BUT! to be saved we must repent of sin & ask him to forgive us. then its lik i said about THE HOLY SPIRIT. then we ask to be forgiven of the new sins we commit. lik if we get saved & tell a lie, we still hav to repent. ?. how can u repent for sumthing u havent dun yet? yes JESUS DIED for that sin, but agin u still hav to repent for that sin. & by works THE HOLY BIBLE means giving money to sum1 or feeding the poor. thats works. askin Jesus to forgiv u & save u is a choice.
howtogetsaved 2 years ago

"For there is one God, and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus;" -1 Timothy 2:5
howtogetsaved 2 years ago
...That tell us who Jesus is and what he does for us up above. It has nothing to do with once saved always saved.
Gethsemaneful 2 years ago
There are some of us who like to split hairs over the difference between accept and receive. I never invite people to accept Jesus. It implys that He must be acceptable to the individual, elevating them and demeaning Him. I always (and a few historical theologians) ask people to receive Jesus. You receive a gift. It is NOT a work. It is simply surrendering to God's claim on your life. He gives the grace, we respond with gratitude, not deals or works or bargins.
yotsky75 2 years ago 3
There are some theologians who go to great lengths to explain the intricate interplay of preserverence and preservation. It's not something that can be simplified into a compact little slogan. We have the responsibility to preservere, but it is actually only by God's grace that we can do that. So He gets all the glory. But for those who are truely saved, He will always enable them. So there is an eternal security, but it's not flippant or irresponsible.
yotsky75 2 years ago 3
THis is why when we close a prayer we say "In Jesus Name"
