Most interesting to see the origins of the Alien idea. Could be used more if Alien was ever returned to it's original cinematic character. (probably not possible in today's Hollywood)

Pity the 9 Disk Box Set DVD did not have the balls to include the erotic underpinnings of Alien.

Still, one of the best ideas translated to cinema.

i may have read your comment wrong but it's origin is from one of giger's dreams. when ridley and this other guy where in the making of alien they saw the xenomorph picture and said "what's that" and giger explained that those are the things that frighten him the most

From what the Vid shows seems Giger explored this theme from an erotic point of view as well. Still has an alien/horro sense about it but with very pronounced sexual theme.

hmm.. yeah actually I constanly change my opinion about the favourite. It's either Giger's original, clinically satanic alien, or runner from 3.. or those pantherlike creatures from 4 (I know the movie sucks). I just can't make up my mind. Damn it!

I don't see what the big problem is. It doesn't matter what year the design came from. It's about which one looked the coolest, and personally, I agree with the designs from AVP and Alien 4. Ironically the movies were crap, but the Alien designs were the best. And honestly, saying a design "phail"s just because you favour another is just a pure sign of being a fanboy.

You see, Giger is my favourite artist. If you know how people seemed to go out of their way just to fuck him over, you'd hate anything that gopes with it. It's not blind fanboyism, I sympathize with the guy. He has Night terrors, his wife is dead, and on top of that, studions keep fucking him over! He's possabbly the most brilliant artist I've ever seen design for a movie. In fact, the first alien is the only movie he worked on where he WASN'T fucked over royally.

I DO apreciate what Giger has done with his art work for 'Alien' and besides, none of the later designs for the aliens would have been possible without the inspiration of Giger's original. But speaking strictly in terms of the design itself, I still do prefer what Giger's orignal design has evolved into in the AVP films.

I have to disagree. It can't be an evolution if all the nuances that made the original design ORIGINAL were taken out. It went from a biomechanical being that blends in with anything (and can be shapeless in the right light) to just some fucking stupid fleshy lizard. Have you seen Pumpkinhead? THe ADI alien looks exactly like it. Same people too. Fucking lazy.

Well, whatever design you do like or hate, it's still your opinion and I respect that but I still stand by mine. I have just finished off my own 3D model of the Alien, so check it out and tell me what you think.

As for the design itself, the sole reason why I do NOT like the older ones is because of the 'penis monster' part of it which isn't as emphasized in the newer designs. And you have to admit, when you look past the 'biomechanical' style they should be, the newer ones look damn cool.

The sexual influince of the original was obviously the point. THey used it because in out culture sex is a taboo and is feared by a lot of people. The fact that you don't like it kinda means it works. And yes, the ADI's lazy copied and pasted pumpkinhead designs look cool, but they just look like a dumbed down version of the originals.

I mean if you look up radio friendly radiohead on this site, you'll see the kind of thing I'm talking about. (to be contd.)

The opriginal alien was different. It still is. No one has ever done anything like it.

THe new ones are just stupid ass big teethed mainstream lizard mutants that jump out at the camera. They're fucking cheesey Kmart knockoffs. They're the "clone wars animated series" versions of the xenomorphs trying to make themselves work in real life.

the xenomorph in alien3 sucked. It looked like it 2 feet tall except for when it was compared to the humans, xeno's look gay with cgi, alien and aliens all the way!

They used this kind of stop-motion animatronic alien... and yes, I do think too there was something wrong with the lense they used. Special edition, directors-cut (or whatever) Alien3 was great... not Alien, but I think comparable to Aliens...

Well, thanks alot... I agree, specially the AVP ones... they are very lame. Giger was involved in the design of the third one too, actually, but the result was more melted cheese than Giger-like... the newborn, I think it´s scary... but the 3d drones were awful.

BTW: What's with the rez aliens? They have dog legs, but they were born from humans.

The A4 xenos were genticly engineered I believe. They were altered in some way I believe...either that or they were building off the A3 design.

humm... could be, but I think they just thought they could improve the design... since the A3 one, had no "offspring" at all... the alien queen face-hugger was supposed to be from Acheron... they just blew continuity as I see it... A4res ones were supposed to be "even more human", those legs were totally out of place.
