  • you should un block this great vid so it can be sharred

  • called: You got me running, is it not ??

I have this by Ike & Tina

    :-)

  • @iluvtina nope, covered by lots of artist under the same name... probably just Ike & Tina trying to hide the fact it was a cover to their mainstream audience :P

  • I was looking for this song by Koko Taylor and found Sugar Pie. Just love her spunk, her energy, her connection with the band. What a find. Will clearly look into her career. She got it!

  • :OOO wuauw!!!

  • Cool lookin' video, but Etta James just kills this song by comparison.

  • no offense but this is horrible

  • @valo00666 no offense but your good taste sucks dick

  • @valo00666 what is it like to be horribly wrong?

  • Cliff James, Willy Dixon and Hubert Sumlin.

Where do you get this stuff...?

  • Sugar Pie is 4' 11" and a perfect mix of African-American and Filipina. She was once a writer and performer with Chess Records, and had some success - but I like her best as a performer because her style is so distinctive.

  • Thank you Odin029 I feel much better knowing that now - it was bugging me. Its damn good he has quite a distinctive style -

  • is that Ike Turner playing guitar? - sounds like him

  • @MrRetromaniacs That's Hubert Sumlin on guitar.

  • @Odin029 I was going to guess it was Jimmy Rogers on guitar?

  • WOW!!!!! she's Gr8!!!!!

and the 1 person who doesn't like this isn't Groovy

  • TANK YOU FOR THIS SONG.

  • still listening and she is still fantastic !

  • And here's the deal: 45+ years after that performance she still, to this day, puts on a dynamic show. Somersaults...everything!

  • This is what real rock n roll sounds like.

  • Hi brother needs to chat a, Asian women busizz4me.info

  • Wow, what a woman!!! She really belts it out!

  • I have been living my whole life without me some sugar pie!!!

Her voice is beautiful!! Love her expressions too =)

  • This brings back fond memories! I saw that tour and what a knockout she was! But I think Koko Taylor was advertised and it was some time before I found out it was Sugar Pie. I thought how can a woman be some elegant and so earthy (we didn't say raunchy then)? I think at the same concert Champion Jack Dupree stood on a stool to wipe Willie Dixon's face. Happy memories.

  • nice voice.

  • that is fantastic !!

  • Willie Dixon (bass) Hubert Sumlin (guitar)

  • @adrien2007 The inimitable Sumlin indeed.

  • Yeeah, yeeah, yeaah. Sugar Pie, ain't nothin like her. Damn good music right here.

  • Mmm mmm good!

  • Can't believe I've found coverage of thid great singer, I first saw her aged 13 and she was singing at my local jazz club " The Jazz Cellar" in Kingston upon thames in surrey uk, brought back so many great memories, thank you youtube xxx

  • i just love this

  • Willie Dixon on Bass.

  • Didn't Johnny Otis discover and sign her.

  • You go girl!

  • Etta James is her cousin, and she was the opening act for the James Brown Revue for two years......

  • Awesome!

  • you should check her out on a song called "Little Taste Of Soul" backed by the James Brown band from about 1962(though its credited to the Nat Kendrick Band, Kendrick was Brown's drummer at that time)

  • Only the highest respect !

    TEAM FRANK ANTHONY

  • Elvis Presley's name does not even belong here.. what a ripoff!!

  • that woman was gifted! thanx for sharing

  • Yep thats it !!! Brilliant !!!!!

    Thanx maggie lol...x

    5 * faved great post

    Thank starpresley77 for sharing

    Love Phyl

  • Desanto's version here predates Elvis's on his Comeback Special by four years. The song itself is by Jimmy Reed who cut it first in 1960.

    Great song.

  • You got that right, Jimmy Reed wrote it & recorded it 1st. Elvis sang great songs from great singer songwritters, but he did not write the music.

  • Elvis did the song on the Comeback Special, it had been a favorite of his for a while...but i don't think he actually recorded it, in the studio, for a single release....

  • Wow, she has a really nice and bluesy voice...Fantastic version. But my favorite is and will forever be the 68-Comeback-Version by ELVIS!!!

  • lol awesome!

  • Awesome.

  • Absolutely fantastic version - Sugar Pie is as gutsy as ever - and the backing band is sublime

  • Just discovered Sugar Pie Desanto on a copy of American Folk and Blues vol 4.

    What a artist absolutely mesmerizing.

  • Her voice is great , but she looks little standing next to Willy Dixon . Great clip !!!

  • she was barely five feet tall, but then again Wille Dixon was about 6' 2" or 6' 3' and about 275-300 pounds so anyone would look small next to him....

  • she still is man, still going strong

  • this is my aunt.

  • You got one hell of brilliant aunt. Send her our love. Hope she's doing okay.

  • Comment removed

  • superb nuff said

  • apparently, her father was filipino! amazing performer! thanks for sharing =)

  • Wow, what a great video, slimloo! Thanks 4 posting, YouTube needs more of Miss Sugar Pie :-D She is so great, animated, & soulful in her performance, and knows how to control her band (she's still doing this now!).

  • Lovin This!!

  • I would love to see some footage of her singing 'Go Go Power' a very sort after record in the UK.

  • She's still kickin' ass!
