  • This and Jerusalem are the finest things ever written, Spine tingling stuff.

  • Dislikes > 25 people need gods help!

  • Absolutely beautiful. Our God is all powerful, merciful and loving to us all. I know He has blessed us in many, many ways. It amazes me that so many do not believe in Him when He is all around us every day. God Bless all of you.....Rog & Betty

  • Loved this and favored

  • As an agnostic, and theology student, (and one who appreciates this music regardless of both), I have to say - if there is a God, and I meet him, I will be severely disappointed if all that was troubling him all these years was whether I believed in Him or not. He has got to have bigger things on his mind.

  • @MsMazR I don't think it is so much whether you believe intellectually in Him, but rather you are living your life completely separate from Him and will do so for all eternity unless you are reconciled through Christ. With Love.

  • @MsMazR Your the biggest thing on his mind, He is your father and you are his child.

  • Thank you sincerely for a lovey rendition of one of my favourite hymns, the pictures are of a place I know and where I went on holiday as a child. Thank you :-)

  • I am an accomplished Professional musician with many years experience!

This particular interpretation with the spoken intro and pictures of the Yorkshire area and the visual lyrics have been so comforting to me in dealing with the passing of my wife! I am so grateful for the good fortune to have access to this oh! so very special "rendition" Gracias Padre Mio

  • Magnificient. It's not the polish of the Mormon Tabernacle Choir, but it's nonetheless inspiring and uplifting!

  • In tears!

  • To all the atheists or non-believers who always ask: "When we get to heaven what if you're wrong, and there is no God, and everything thing Christian you have done has been done in vain?" I respond..."But what if YOU'RE wrong and you have to face God, knowing you didn't believe in him or live a life in which he would be pleased. What if YOU'RE wrong?"

  • @Mayberryfan01 Amen!

  • @Mayberryfan01 Amen!

  • @Mayberryfan01 first class

  • @Mayberryfan01 except an atheist would never say "when we get to heaven" because an atheist rightly does not believe in heaven...

  • @madgwao True! Very true!!!!

  • @Mayberryfan01 What if you're wrong and you should be worshiping allah? Or Thor? Or Zeus? Or the flying spaghetti monster?

Life is full of endless possibilities and what ifs. Just stop worrying about tomorrow and star living for today.

  • @cymruadam Well the flying spaghetti monster sounds like fun! I am not worried at all..Cheers!

  • @Mayberryfan01 Good for you, and by that same logic I'm not worried that the sky wizard will be angry after I die, because I didn't devote my life to telling him how wonderful he is.

  • @cymruadam enjoy life, u and i will find out one day, for one of us it will be too late though.

  • @Mayberryfan01 fairplay mate i agree with you and i am no angel but a christian- god bless

  • @Mayberryfan01 A life in service to God is a happy life. A life spent persuing transient pleasures is empty. This is the point that I try to make to those who don't worship. That compassion, turning the other cheek and devotion to God brings great joy now as well as after we give up the body. There is no "what if I'm wrong?" there is only rejoicing in God :) thats how I see it anyhow.

  • @Mayberryfan01 I am agnostic, and I fail to see why any of this matters. This song sounds beautiful regardless.

  • Beautiful Hymn. Thanks for sharing Jan (weeyin1155) ♥

  • Utterly beautiful. Thank you and thanks to ramey58 who kindly shared. ♥

  • I love your simple rendition of this song.

  • @ putty 1994 who lied to you ?

  • who lied to.

  • God doesn't exist you've all been fooled he false!

  • @putty1994 One thing i learned in life is that satan has his own. For example most of the people posting here expressing their appreciation for such a beautiful hymn, and then SATANS OWN APPEARS and denigrates those who believe in god!!! Never mind putty 1994 i will ALWAYS pray for people like you because i know GOD in his mercy can still help you...........With GOD there is never a hopeless case.

  • @bertelliish Do you know where god came from.?

  • @Skaramoosh5 God has always been there. He has no beginning or a end. When you see a mountain where did it come from? who put it there? Where did humans come from? Where did everything come from?

I have nothing to lose if there is no GOD well at least i lived my life as best as i could. But if there is a GOD he will reward me for living right and having faith in him.

The big question is , what about you, what are you going to do if there is a GOD?.........

  • @bertelliish I mean if God created the universe, for him to do that, he would have to have existed somewhere. You cannot exist, where there is nowhere to exist. Did he come from another universe to create ours.? If it is ever proven that God does in fact exist, I will sit and sob my heart out. He has all that power and did nothing to stop rape, child rape, murder, abuse, violence etc..... I really, really hope he doesn't exist.

  • @Skaramoosh5 I sense you searching but you want answers, i too started off just like you i wanted every answer to a question concerning GOD...............I know it's hard to imagine a GOD that has no parents or having an origin. As impossible as it may seem GOD has always been there he has no geneology or family tree!! I use the trem "he" for clarity he is not a he or a she he is a SPIRIT. GOD does not have a gender nor is he human. GOD created us with freedom of choice.

  • @shipmate99 this brings me a little closer to home than i currently am (3000 miles). stop bitching with other users and just enjoy the words and music.

  • sung this at a mormon (LDS) baptism :) :) :)

  • Lord Abide with me in life and in death. Through out the ages many Christians have composed such great music to reflect the love and hope in the One who Cherish our souls, The LORD Jesus Christ.. And no other... This hymn encourage me to reflect on him and should be a reminder that the Saint life is in his hand. And no ill shall prevail unless it is within his time table..

  • woooo my favourite song!:D

  • my grandfather had this at his funeral and as an ex soldier like he was i wish to have this at mine ....... it sums up human spirit and I can not imagine being laid to rest to hymn such as lovely as this . I am going back into the forces like my grand pa did - at the same age of 29 and I am hoping who ever reds this will play this if i am unlucky if i get deployed for my fourth time. after all ther is only so much luck you are born with. and remember carry my torch for my children i beg of you

  • I'm a Man United fan and hearing Abide With Me conjours up images in my mind of the Old Wembley Twin Towers, Cantona's winner in 1996 and Scholesy's in 1999. I would have this played at my funeral, it represents everything I dreamed of as a kid, lifting the FA Cup for United at Wembley

  • @Mikeb1001

this song isn't about something as common and mundane as football. It's so much more than that, and if you can't see that then you shouldn't be here.

  • @EyeHawk777 A song or hymn can have 1000 people listen to it and have a different meaning for all those people. It just happens that this hymn has a special link with football and therefore it means a lot to those who love football.

  • @Mikeb1001

I agree it can have many meanings, but people who like football are idiots. And if your dream is to play football then you're kind of unadventurous.

  • @EyeHawk777 -And you sir are an opinionated bore and the real idiot.

  • @paulostroff99

    1) being opinionated is a GOOD thing.

    2) the "real idiot" has a degree in medicine.

    you lose, good day sir.

  • @EyeHawk777 I always tell my friends and relatives" always get a second opinion and keep in mind a doctor is just a drunken university student who managed to remember what he had read in a book in between pukin up and trying to get his end away".

  • @shipmate99

because you know lots and lots about medicine and med school.

  • @shipmate99 Not everybody partied at college.

  • @Proletariat12 maybe a few, one or two didnt, but I was trying to prick the bubble of the pompous EyeHawk777,by the way this is a beautiful hymn used at both my parents funerals. Also I stand by my advice and healthy scepticism concerning the medical professions.

  • I'm not quite sure how this hymn, which clearly is a Christian hymn about the Lord Jesus Christ reminds you of football, and how people can find a multitude of meanings here. I must admit I'm baffled..

  • @archange26 It's significance to football is that it's sung together with the National Anthem before the English FA Cup Final every year in a tradition dating back to 1927.

  • Wow!! I'm so amazed as I read the comments and not a mention of Christ. Really! Is America truly a Christian nation or just a bunch of cultural nominal christian which is not a christian at all.. It's Amazing..

  • Comment removed

  • @archange26 this isn't America, this is the internet, the world, the universe and it certainly isn't all Christian. Oh and you're constitution is very specifically and purposefully secular by the way....

  • @penguinterror Of course it's not all a Christian nation. But if you listened to the Hymn it's clearly christian sir.. And as far as the constitution being secular you would be wise to read the writings of the founders..

  • As beutiful a piece as it may be, there is a finality to this song that I will never enjoy.

  • I love this song, but I prefer the Metallica version.

  • I am Protestant Lutheran and we have this in our hymnbook. One of my favorites.

  • Beautiful music for an invisible friend who exists only in your mind.

  • Comment removed

  • @sarthakksaini

you could be more respectful even if you don't agree with it

  • I heard this song played, with all verses, when I was part of my schools honour guard. My school's chapel was made to remember the old boys who died for Canada and Britain during WWI and WWII. Every November 11th, my school makes a very big deal out of Remembrance Day, which I find to be very respectful to the men who died during those wars.

  • @Alex911TheCanadian Ah, Armistice day from WW1. At the 11th hour, of the 11th day, of the 11th month, the guns fell silent to end the Great War.

  • Abide with me , lord.

  • Beautifully done! from Sacramento California, blessings to you.

Lord Jesus Come as soon as possible may we do the work that you have given us to do so that we may abide in your physical presense forever. Revelation 14:13

  • Beautifully done! from Sacramento California, blessings to you.

Lord Jesus Come as soon as possible may we do the work that you have given us to do so that we may abide in your physical presense forever.

  • When I feel gloomy and sad I always pray and very often listen to this hymn. I always feel better, because both remind me of how good is our God and how his grace and power can lead us through hardship. With him there are no storms we can not weather. Thank you, Lord!

  • Beautiful! One of my favorite hymns.

  • sang this at my dads funeral the other day. i was at wembley last month for the f.a.cup final and it was sang before kick off. my dad could'nt be there. he passed away the day after. im glad city won the cup for him.

  • my dad was in the RAF. this always reminds me of him..

  • This is so reverent and peaceful. I can close my eyes and feel I'm in Heaven. Thank you Mark for sending this beautiful video. Your a good friend. Five ***** and thumbs up to you, Mark. God Bless You! Your Friend, Gwen Weaver

  • So beautiful!

  • my grandad passed away 2 years ago, sung this at the funeral, fa cup final that he used to watch every year it is sung before kick off becomes even more special to me.

2 years on and i think aout you every day even though this makes me cry i try n live how you expected me to live and carrying youre coffin was the proudest moment of my life x

  • @connorNcharlie It would be better to ignore your remark hoping you would go away! However I assume you are sick and perhaps in need of some sort of help.

  • Beautiful choir, great video.

    "In life, in death

    Oh Lord, abide with me".

  • This is the Hymn we sang at my Mothers funeral.Every time I come on to you tube this is the first video I watch. It helps me come to terms with my Mothers tragic death.

  • @justinBlast19 +Requiem aeternam dona ei, Domine, et lux perpetua luceat ei. Requiescat in pace. Amen.+

  • The Choir was awesome on this Gospel song. It really moved me....We should listen to and watch videos like this, every day to keep us in touch with our Creator.

A peaceful way to spend a few minutes away from the cares of daily living.

Thank you for posting this video....The video was perfect and lovely.

    Arizona22Rose

    Rosie

  • Perhaps our greatest hymn, combining a haunting and evocative theme with poignant and memorable words. Even the least religious person can hardly fail to be moved.

  • Goosebumps! Great song! Amazing rendition! Praise God!

  • This video has flooded me with tears.God bless all our men and woman fighting

these wars...May they come home safe, soon to their familys and friends...

Lovely video....The choir did a beautiful sing.

  • I am a Roman Catholic - But it is one the best chirstian hymn I am ever heard. This hymn I remembered sung in the picture -The little women- version 1933. Singing this song, God must be exits.

  • beautiful sound

  • Jesus, U R the One! Life is about You, not me. Thank You for saving my wretched soul late one December night. Still to You do abide with Me. Praise be to your Name! Unsaved folk have no idea what they are missing, No more dead religion for me. I have live relationship with a Person - Jesus IS salvation.

  • i love the music and the tune but when i read the lyrics it floored me and moved me to tears.

  • Change and decay in all around I see / O, Thou who changest not abide with me

  • I love this - I have never heard it before - touching on all accounts.

  • Such a beautiful Hymn, a personal favorite of mine. What a lovely job the choir has done with it and a great video accompniment, thanks for posting!

  • @TACarhart Words of comfort...as of loving arms.

    Thank you.

  • In life in death O Lord abide with me ! AMEN,AMEN,AMEN !!

  • @coglione11 Amen and Amen

  • amen it is truely a great song

  • Sorry more importantly, rest in peace all those who make the ultimate sacrafice for our country x

  • I am an athiest but love this song. Hearing it makes me almost want to believe in god. peice to you all :)

  • @broxi2 You have never been an atheist. For as long as the rain comes down from the skies and you got wet, the same is true with belief in God. You may be passive, just like listening to this beautiful religious music or join them in singing, nobody encourages you but your conscious idea that there is a Greater Being that guides mankind makes you a follower and a believer!

  • @broxi2 the lord will be with you, as this hymn suggests. 'In life, in death. Oh Lord abide with me". take the step and follow christ. will be the best thing you ever do :)

  • @broxi2 nice

  • simply beautiful, even for non-Christians :)

  • I played this hymn at my grandfather's funeral. I love it. I think it is my favourite hymn. Very moving and reflective. This is a great version. I love the organ chords in the last verse.

  • Before my son deployed to Iraq, he was asked to plan his own funeral service, would it be needed. He in turn, asked me for help on the scripture and hymns that I would suggest. (Very difficult for me) This was the first hymn that I chose. It captures the feeling of human helplessness, and our need for the Lord.

  • @jac5264 I hope and pray your son is all right.

  • @jac5264, This is indeed touching. How has your son faired? still in Iraq?

  • @jac5264 I hope and pray for you son's safe return.

  • @jac5264 St Paul says: Whatever things that are true and pure, think of all these things.

  • @jac5264 God keep him safe, and also my mate who's just gone to Afghanistan. I might be going too, but I'll see.

  • Misses why did your son goes to Iraq i am a jehovah witness and we believe that a christian cant go to war.

    John from the netherlands.

  • @usheit Jehovah's Witnesses don't believe that Jesus is true God. Therefore, Jehovah's Witnesses aren't Christian.

  • This is one of my very favorite hymns. Very comforting indeed. First time I heard it was at someone's funeral and I played this myself at my father;s funeral several years ago. It is only in such times that we realize how helpless and weak we are despite our knowledge or wealth. Everything fails against the will of God. May the spirit of the Lord guide and protect us all in times of temptation and grief!

  • where can i find happiness?

  • @samsung36ful True happiness can be found by turning your will and your life over to the care of Jesus Christ our Lord and Saviour.

  • I love this song. Makes me smile :).

  • How can I get a copy of this song?

  • @Proberoftruth It's a hymn, not a song. There's a difference.

  • i miss my dad ...

  • It is not we a Going Home My Bro & Sis we a Coming Home .all who lost u a Moms and dads remember a time where we can count in Hours we will be with them.It is a matter of "What do we Bring Home"Lets abide in Him.God Love u!

  • Jesus, it's all about U, not me. Thank U for saving my wretched soul one night in December, 1968! I have not gotten over it yet. I am so different from the religious but lost, person I used to be. :)

  • A wonderful hymn!

  • Come not in terrors, as the King of kings,

But kind and good, with healing in Thy wings,

Tears for all woes, a heart for every plea—

Come, Friend of sinners, and thus bide with me.

    Thou on my head in early youth didst smile;

And, though rebellious and perverse meanwhile,

Thou hast not left me, oft as I left Thee,

On to the close, O Lord, abide with me.

  • Praise the Lord ! He's the Way, TheTruth, and The Life... Thank you so much for uploading this great hymn . Clicked "like" for 752 points.

  • They played this song at my Grandpa's funeral back in September 2010 and I can't even hear the first few bars of this song without bursting into tears...I miss him every day and will always remember the happy times. R.I.P Grandpa :( xx

  • @nicky4austin69 sat here in tears listening to it too. was played at my grandad funeral 10 years ago. always gets me too.

  • I'm Catholic, so this won't be played at my funeral. But I shall remember it when making my last confession to the priest. And "in life, in death, O Lord, abide with me," with God's help, shall be my last thought as I shuffle off this mortal coil.

In your charity, do pray for my late grandfather. Thank you.

  • @mpalardy y ?

  • @davyoneil3 Because my requiem will be a traditional one, focused not on my death in this life but my rebirth into the next one. All the texts are prescribed by the Church, and these texts (Dies Irae, Requiem, De Profundis, and such) are usually sung to a Gregorian or other setting, thus taking the place held by hymns within other confessions. Pax.

  • @mpalardy Amen. Praise the Lord for His mercy. The traditional Requiem is the greatest gift a family can give a departed loved one, and in no other ritual was more damage done in the "reform" than in the funeral rites.

  • god won't let you ever alone,

he forgives you for what you have done wrong

and he give you eternal life

the only thing you have to do for this is to love him

  • Value is discerned through scarcity. What we lose we cherish.

  • Beautiful - thank you for sharing - Thumbs up - God Bless You

Thank you Ramey for the share

  • "Through cloud and sunshine O abide with me" That's my prayer dear Lord ! Amen

  • Thumbs up if your having this at your funeral

  • @costateguise

I'd better or I'm coming back as a ghost.

  • @costateguise If my Catholic priest permits it.

  • @bitterclinger100 Can't imagine why he wouldn't. Christian hymns should be for all christian faiths. Will it ever come to pass that all christian faiths realize that their differences are insignificant to the real roots of Christendom?

  • @costateguise

This hymn just so wonderful! It shouldn't be just for funerals because the Lord abides with us in life and death. However, yes I think I will be having this at my funeral.

  • @ukchristian28

    same for me.

  • @ukchristian28 amen!!!

  • A Wonderful Hymn and poignoint video..thanks for posting !... Makes me cry but Proud

  • such a poignant hymn.it holds so uch emotion for me as it was played at my nans funeral.

  • Wich choir is this sung by in this recording?

  • @Konsumapple Westminster Abbey Choir in England.

  • My nephew and godson liked this hymn, which has found its way into the songbook of our chrurch as well.

He died at the age of 20 from leukemia. May we meet again.

  • @Jeansschwimmer Amen.

  • I love You Jesus. Life is about You . . . worshipping You, glorifying You, serving You!!

Thank U for saving my wretched soul, one night. For years I did not know that being saved was a one time event, a free gift, totally supernatural - the New Birth

  • This is Anglican or Episcopal all the way Makes me proud to be one.

  • thanks for posting this is a beautiful hymn.

  • Beautifull Hymn!!!
