@circusj3lly Traditionally most types of jazz don't deal with a single scale. Jazz players tend to think of modal possibilities and arpeggios. Hence why jazz is such a complicated style of music, but highly rewarding to play (except I'm not that good at it yet, I haven't found my chops).
Great sound, reverb really makes it beautiful. I'm jealous of your playing and your guitar...I'm a jazz bassist looking at an Ibanez like yours to add to my collection; expand my horizons a little!
What amp are you using for this? Is sounds really nice. Ive got a fender hotrod deluxe and mesa boogie f-100 with 4/12's. i cant get this tone from them i dont think and the mesa(channel one) and fender have great cleans.
If you want one of these guitars check EBay. I just got one for $300.00 today.
If you want a great Jazz tone from it, put on a set of 0.12 Flatwounds. (I use D'Adarrio Chromes) You could use 0.11 s if you might play some Blues. The 0.11 s allow more bending.
Great playing! I got one of these guitars, they are awesome, beat rivals like epiphone by a million miles. Actually I was a little disappointed in it at first, then I stuck some flatwounds on it...and it was love, the tone is so....ah, I am in love :)
I've been considering picking one of these up - there is a used one at a local shop for a really good price. Your video helped make up my mind. Thanks!
Hi, i just pickup up one of these for 299. I find that the treble cannot be rolled off. Is this an issue with the pickups, or do I need to replace the tone pots to something that has a higher resistance?
Thanx 4 the comment! You may be right but I like the way the treble roles off. I like a relatively crisp sound so the pots are OK for what I need. Peace
Hi there! Really nice played! :) I'm thinkin' of buyin' one of these Ibanez Jazz-guitars, but I've only had the AF75BS in my mind. And you seem to know these guitars very well, so I ask you; What's the biggest difference between the two of them? I mainly want to play it unplugged or with a clear sound. I'm pretty confused at the moment and the guy in the musicshop kind of pushes me to purchase this one. So it would mean the world to me if you could help me. Thanks :)
Thanx for your kind words and reply! I have played/owned a few AF types as well as ES175 and an array of semis. The difference between the AK and an AF is the cutaway. The AK has a Florentine cutaway(sharp snout) and the AF has a Venetian cutaway(rounded). No noticable sound difference altho some players swear the Florentine has a clearer sharper attack but can't confirm that!I prefer the sharp cutaway because I've always liked the look of a 175(Metheny's Gibson). cont...
..cont PT2.Both can be heard unplugged altho they are designed to b plugged in, both have a super clear and warm sound! I love the smaller body, is solid as a rock, and is truely a bang for the buck! the tuning heads I must say may need replacing altho I've kept everything stoack...Peace
Theres a used AK85 at my local Guitar Center for $300. I play Jimi Hendrix, Metallica, Iron Maiden, etc. But I want to learn some Blues/Jazz. Would this be a good guitar for me?
thanx for the comment. I think this hollow~body is the best deal for the price anywhere. That being said, it IS a hollowbody, and although it has a smaller body, by nature it doesn't handle higher volumes and gain well. For clean jazzy sounds and TubeScreamer type overdrive it has a great bluesy vintage/retro sound (from George Benson to George Thoroughgood). However, for higher Hendrix/Ray Vaughn type gain look out, I recommend the Ibanez AS series Semi-hollow) for that! Peace
Hey there Thomas. I am in love with your playing! I sing jazz too and play with piano and also guitar, many great players, but I LOVE your playing.... You have such a natural feel baby!! Very hip and groovy...
Very very excellent and impressive. What can I say...you are very good! Such an intuitive and unique sense of melody and harmony .I like your bright sound, touch and your obvious technique. Hard to believe the guitar is a $300 instrument..sounds more like $5000! What gauge are the strings?
I am humbled by your remarks...thank-you so much. The axe is great because but the pick-ups can use a little more depth, but as you said, the brightness is great, not muddy. The Ibanez Custom 58s are too dark and heavy for me...I like the 'cheapness' of these pick-ups almost like single coils...The strings are .11-.49

Sure you can play like that..

That guitar is actually closer to a Gibson L-4CES than an ES-175.
greyhall1 5 months ago
@greyhall1 I wasn't so familiar with the L-4CES, but you are right. Minus the ebony board and carved top, the body is very similar to this Ibanez!

great tone! :) , which amp are you using, and how much is the tone rolled-off ?
MrJazzTrold 7 months ago in playlist Chitarre
@MrJazzTrold Tone is at about 6-7

Hi, can you tell me if you fitted the metal bridge by yourself, and if so, why?
Do they not come as standard fitted with a wooden bridge?
Great playing!

God I would punch a baby for one of those. Not to play it like this though. To hear it screaming through a Marshall. 8-)

Nicely done. Impromptu... I hope I'll get close to that some day...
Also, 300$? Wow. AK80 is around 700$ in a music shop here, a bit out of my price range...
AF75 is 600$, plus I prefer the rounded cutaway, I'm thinking of getting that.
