  • Beautiful, song ,beautiful, voice ,great story teller. A world class folk singer.Take care ADonovan43

  • My daughter just read the lyrics to me from a school letter and she wants me to learn this song on my guitar so she can sing it in the talent show next year. I love the fact that my daughter aint caught up in all the crap music.

  • The first time I heard this song, it just reached out and grabbed me. She tells awesome stories in her songs.

  • Saw MCC in London a fortnight ago and she was awesome - not a word I use often! I'm still buzzing. She called this her serotonin song:) (ps In 1986 my mate Woody called and wanted me to go round and watch the comet. Not being fully awake I said I'd catch it next time!)

  • On the night of April 21,1986, the last night that the Comet could be seen , my mother died. She was 75 years old.

  • Had the pleasure of seeing her this summer in SoCal...........she, as always, was AMAZING!!! Her acoustic version of this song that night left me with goosebumps...... MCC tells a story with her music, like no other.

  • She reallly makes country music shine!!

  • guooooo canta muy bonito ^^

    alguien sabe si aun vive?

  • America does not have a huge amount of history, but MCC is a national treasure and should be cherished as such. Song writing talent like hers does not come along very often, and with a voice to match. If she were English she'd be nighted by now. When I was younger I had the opportunity to see her live and turned it down, not knowing of her then. Boy do I regret that decision.

  • @snipep ...knighted

  • @snipep You're too right. Saw her at the Barbican in London two weeks ago, and I seriously don't think I've ever been to a better concert!!

  • Pretty funny music...my name is Halley btw =) because of the comet hehe :D

  • hats off to the lead guitarist in this one

  • I could have ended this song better. " Late one night when the wind was still,

grandma brought my daddy to the window sill".

  • This is one of my favorite MCC songs. What a great songwriter she is. May she continue to record and bring us her fabulous talent. Oh, and Happy 52nd Birthday Mary!!!!

  • Soulmates are few and far between. MCC - Thanks to you I will always remember his name.

  • Listening to this song, and the album Shooting Straight in the Dark, will always remind me of my years living in Tokyo in the early 90s. MCC's words and music became like a magic carpet that would take me out of the crowded city and onto a small, two-lane road somewhere in the deep south, alone except for the humidity and junebugs! Ahh, MCC...

  • a song writing genuis.....

  • First song I heard by MCC, I was in 4th grade. Fell in love with her and have been an avid fan 16 years later.

  • I love this song, it never fails to bring a tear to my eye. I also love Mary and her voice. Her songs always touch me.

  • Couldn't agree more. This one always gets to me. Never fails. So sweet.

  • The sky has been beautiful this summer with Jupiter, Venus, Beattleguese, Rigel, Orion, the Summer Triangle (DAV), the Winter Triangle and the Winter Hexegon. Great song to accompany these great star gazing nights.

  • Simple song but look for the real meaning makes me happy and sad at the same time

  • THIS is music. Such a talented artist, marvelous voice, I love this song & album so much

  • Do you happen to have "When She's Gone" as well? I've been searching everywhere for it, but I can't find it on here.

  • I really love this song <3 Makes me nostalgic and gives me chills. (Good ones~)

  • our astronomy teacher let us hear the music today....it´s really great :)

  • This song has my name in it!!!

    AHHHHHHH!!!!!!!111

  • i used to listen to this song when i was really little and this just brought back so many memories....

  • This is real country guys and gals, ain't nothing like it is today

  • Brings tears to my eyes and I'm not sure why. Love it.

  • ...and myself as well, as a PARENT is the "why."

  • It is like so much country and bluegrass music that rock or jazz rarely offers - a story about something other than romantic love. As important as that love is, there are other important things as well. This song is about the brevity of life, the passing of generations against the backdrop of the massive distances and vast cycles of time in the universe. It is about parenthood, birth, aging, death and conitnuity. Same person, same porch, same comet - and yet all so different 76 years later.

  • I've loved MMC for years,I can't believe I've never heard this one! Where was I ?? You said it,country & bluegrass music can run deeper and touch one's heart like no other.

  • @mhatlie Well said. Agree totally

  • This was the first MCC song I heard, on Australian ABC radio on the way home from work. Wonderful stuff !

  • Love it!!!

  • Thanks for putting this out. It's hard to find and I don't have that album anymore.

  • This is one of my favourite songs from her early albums. I seen her in concert some years ago and she was quite good. She also said little about politics, which I like. I enjoy her songs about life and things that reach into memories, I'm not much interested in her political views or those of any entertainer. This may be why her later work hasn't interested me much.

  • I remember listening to this song when I was so young like well, not so young, a few years but it seems to have been MANY YEARS ago...it brings back memories.

  • a song about halley comet how kool is that...... chapin is great

  • Mary is one special lady she sings like an angle, and her songs all tell a story a true modern day troubadour.

  • We first heard this song driving on a remote Scottish lane in the rain. It brought tears to my - now - wife. Thank you very, very much. Two special ladies.

  • Thank you so much for this.

  • YAY! Oh YAY! I finally found this video!

    Thanks much!

  • This entire cd is great!

  • Agreed. Of all her albums this one is my favorite. :)
