In one of the earlier comments someone mentioned sleeping beauty being one of the princesses who sits around, doing nothing, waiting for her prince to come.

Did you watch the movie? a) she didn't know she was a princess. b) there isn't much she could do- Flora, Fauna, and Merryweather would barely let her leave the cottage. c) she said in the movie that Flora, Fauna, and Merryweather didn't want her to meet anybody.

A big part of the plot is about a princess who doesn't know she is a prince

it's really sad that they don't make disney movies the way they used to.

these are such classics. even now, after so many years and many times i've seen them, they still give me that sense of "magic", of wanting a "happily ever after" (even tho, as i got older, the term surely became more of a dream than a reality :P).

for some reason, i don't feel that "magic" anymore in the new disney films.

Sleeping Beauty falls a sleep and doesn't do a damn thing for herself, Snow White just hangs around and cooks and cleans for the seven dwarfs while she waits for her prince to come. The only two disney princesses who actually did stuff for herself are Jasmine and Mulan and Mulan isn't even a princess.

Dude, look at the timelines for these Disney movies. All of them are set duirng times when woman doing anything that seemed proactive was frowned upon. The fact that these animated woman withstood the hardtiems that they did (Cinderella survived her stephmother, Belle took care of ehr father and didn't care if she was talked about for loving to read. Ariel was willing to go against her father's prejudices.) All of these Princesses are kind, strong-willed women. THAT'S the point.
