  • 9 people never understood what was the Question.

  • 240p, we meet again

  • @kroggwaff Indeed. The listener's eternal enemy.

  • @CBurton it makes for bad audio also, look up how utube vids are coded;P

  • You guys don't realize that Frank was nuts(1), he thought of these crazy, badass segments(2), he taught somebody else how to play them(3), then he records it(4), then his extremely talented son carries on his father's vision almost note for note(5). Pure genius.

  • @WiteLightnin74 Numbers have to be small and blue to convince me it's fact, sorry.

  • Sweet version of one of my favourite Frank tunes. The Rhodes riff is Monster !

  • hi .I m from france can anyone give more informations about this.Where and when was it recorded, what s the name of the dvd.

  • @Blakenstein1 Zappa plays Zappa order it from the video store..they will know what it is

  • Thanks Dweezil for giving us a second chance to more fully appreciate your Father's music. Your band kicks butt.

  • ouahhhh!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! ouahhhh!!!!

  • BRING VINNIE COLAIUTA BACK!!

  • That's the best sax solo I heard in years. Wonderfully embedded in the sound of the band. I'm sure Frank would have hired her. Great job!

  • I want Scheila's ovaries.. that woman is incredible!

  • I WOULD LOVE TO LIKE IT MORE BUT IT ONLY LETS ME DO IT ONCE!!!!!! AMAZINGLY GREAT PERFORMANCE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Great bass player!

  • DId I miss the keyboard solo? When I saw ZpZ do this a few years ago, the solo on the electric piano had me on the edge of my seat! This is good, but needs more keys.

  • fuckin dweezil such a dumb fugazi

  • @oober349

Wow you managed to invent a word Fugazi

Can you play Guitar like Dweezil ?

I bet 10 $ you cannot so stop complaining about musicianship that you dont understand

  • @Zappafan1980 I'm not a guitarist, but I'm fairly certain I understand the two or three modes Dweezil is employing in his improvisations.

  • @oober349

    O. K. i get it now you dont like Dweezil and you dont like his Frank Zappa Tribute Band

That is your oppinion and your Taste

Its just sad that i cannot change it

I think Dweezil is making a great Job in bringing his Daddys music to a young audience like me for example since i was 12 years old when Frank died

Sorry i feel easyly offended when somebody says something negative about him

  • @Zappafan1980 I was one year old when Frank died, but that doesn't mean I appreciate the careers of his disappointing children

  • @oober349 You're an idiot, stop crying because dweezil plays lead differently than his dad. Complexity isn't necessary for something to sound good.

  • @IAmTheNietzsche in fact i prefer that Dweezil plays in HIS style, i don't want to hear an imitation of zappa cause he is unique, it is better to have dweezil play in his own musical language!!! (even if it is frank's songs) Don'tcha agree?

  • @oober349 the two or three modes he uses? lololololol You master of music XDDDDDDD

  • Hail Sheila

  • You know, Ruth was such at one with the band, totally there, that I never thought of her as a Chick In The Band. Says a lot for her and perhaps a bit for earlier onset of althz. Ruth was such an epic additon to the band - in fact - Frank wrote stuff just for her, her mere presence made the band and the music much better and he chops, her skill, challeneged Frank. I have to admit I never once thought of Ruth as being anything other than One Of The Band.

  • Dweezil inherited his father's talent

  • I wish that I was that saxophone...

  • @darkalleyheroes :Lnice

  • Z/pZ is cyclic

  • Okay, look - we're all used to Zappa being the Man's Last Refuge band - chicks don't like Frank. Frank never had chick's IN the band, right? So here's Shiela and it's..Whaaa. It does jolt. The inner guy voice thing is going - Should be NMB! Or Randy, or anybody but a .. a.. a Chick! She will never have the same groove as a guy but she does have chops. All shit aside - she deserve props. Not sure how I liek her singin Dirty Love, but she does play. It's D's band now, get used to it.

  • Ruth Underwood. Tina Turner singing back-up on Dirty Love. Dale Bozzio on Joe's garage. Not sure the thinking behind FZ not letting females in the band.

  • "Frank never had chick's IN the band"

Umm... bro... that's the dumbest thing anyone who pretends to know anything about Frank could ever write, considering that some of FZ's greatest touring bands were the ones with Ruth Underwood (check out "Roxy and elsewhere" and "You can't do it on stage anymore Vol 2" for starters) not to mention that Frank himself thought Ruth to be the greatest percussionist who had played with him and sampled her playing into his computer before he passed away

  • im sry but seriously sheila ruins this song. that's my opinion if u ask me. dweezil & frank deserve this song to be "better" played then just a long stupid sax solo.

  • Don't mess with Sheila Gonzales......after she drops that sax she'll drop anybody at arm wrestling. And I'm only serious!

  • jesus yes

  • woah, guitar cam?

  • every time.

  • Sheila Gonzales is a real musician and nice person and can play better than most sax players out there. She is NO amatuer!! So whoever used that term to descibe her does not know her or has not heard her play.

  • Sheila Gonzales is a real musician and nice person and can play better than most sax players out there.

  • @G7flat5 better than ol' cap'n beefheart!

  • Hey! Franks boy can sure play!! I love me some Zappa!

  • Charlie Parker is reencarnated in Scheila!!!! Amazing solo, amazing tune, amazing band.

  • @albertmetal93 Comparing Charlie Parker to this amateur chick? LOL.

  • @BLooDCoMPleX Is this the same Charlie Parker that when faced with an altered chord always just played exactly the same fucking lick? You cannot call Scheila an amateur

  • @PeteLewis1917 Well, to be fair, I don't think you can call Bird an amateur either. But I like Sheila too, saw her in Toronto, she played keys and sax, she's definitely my favorite zpz player.

  • @albertmetal93

Totally different style, but I get what you mean.

    She's amazing

  • Quel bonheur!Great les ami(e)s,Zappa notre ami!

  • I love how the drums and bass start cooking under the sax solo.

  • Music is the best!

  • That keyboardist, Aaron Arntz, is like 22. WTF!?

  • Ok, so I have been listening to Frank for.....40....(did I really write that?)......years.

    It never gets old. Never.

God is at work here. We're lucky to witness this.

  • keyboards. how did they do this sound in the 60's?

  • Frank`s music is like a big treasury of different music styles. SO SHREWD!!!

  • 8 People seem to have missed the LIKE button

  • @sam2xtremehughes And you missed with that suicide shot, asshole.

  • @passonno I agree with him and think they should be traced and put in lavic olive oil

  • Scheila rocks. Or jazzs.

  • @TheFriendlyMoosh

    right?

i wonder where she also plays

  • Shiela Gonzalez is an AWESOME Talent along with Dweezil, Napolean and this amazing group of musicians ! They dont need the showboat ego of Steve Vai or Terry Bozzio, as good as they are. Dweezil & the group ZPZ stand on their own . What a tribute to Frank !!! I just got the ZPZ 5 DVD SET ! Dweezil has created a masterpiece from Frank's classics !

  • What a groove!!

  • Great tune by the greatest musician the world has ever seen.

  • Can't wait till they play in July!!!

  • 5:33 wow lol

  • Scheila Gonzalez is truly amazing! The real epitome of a Zappa band, top-notch musicians pushing the boundaries. ZPZ is doing an outstanding job!

  • Zappa is great !

  • Somewhat crazy solo. Zappa's music is fantastic, until You learn the songs it's totally unpredictable if You "drum along" or play air guitar. This is modern classic music, and will be played again in 150 years together with Bach & co.

  • man this is the most awsome music I have heard in years.....

  • her constant shaking sorta distracted from the solo haha

  • Can't wait to see ZPZ in june, gonna be the greatest night of my life!!!

  • @SidVicious10101 We are lucky enough to be going to see ZPZ in June too! My wife bought us tickets for our wedding anniversary. We are thrilled!

  • good solo on sax :)... well played !!!!!!!!!

  • that is so Sweet!

  • wtf...

  • @NickDanger3

If you don't like improvisational soloing why would you even be listening to Zappa? Or any Prog for that matter.

  • nope dunno how to dumb, head looks like a potato.

  • Can anyone say NickDanger3 is a wanker?

  • @angie4josh But he's got a great name.... Third Eye.

  • @angie4josh Im a wanker...whats your problem. what makes u think ur better thatn anyone????

  • @Blakenstein1 Ten green thumbs?

  • great...great..great...god bless Frank...i love the DVD Zapa Plays Zappa...Groovefestival with Franks Music...

    thx man...and respect !!!!

  • A beautiful rendition by a fuckin kick-ass sax artist! and although I love Dweezil to death, I wish I could find a video of The Man performing this piece. I dream of this piece, it is the rockingest work in all of music-dom!!! Que Viva Frank Zappa!!!

  • What an amazing sax solo!!!!

  • detta äger fett!

  • qué bien lo pasan estos flacos tocando!!...

  • Doesn't the sax look like a question mark to you ;) Eat it all nite long, girl, it sounds good :)

  • ok this opening riff kicks ass!

  • @kerryallen2112 this whole song kicks ass !

  • Great version. Somehow , stupid me, I didn't feel like buying the whole ZPZ idea in the beginning, but after seeing several videos, I believe that FZ is smiling from Rock Heaven watching his son keeping his legacy alive.

  • Oh Frank...

  • what a great fucking song

  • Great version!

  • What a fantastic line-up. Frank would have loved ZpZ.

  • He would have thought it was an abomination of his music. Wait his music is an abomination. The way Frank Zappa liked it, strange and complicated. Zappa for life.

  • Agreed. However, The musicians in this band are very talented and advanced players, and they play a healthy dose of the complicated at their shows. The strange is gone and can never be replaced - Dweezil admits it himself and deliberately avoids playing the more controversial or humorous material because only Frank could deliver it properly.

  • Fully agreed good sir.

  • You mean the subversiveness!!!!!!!

  • watch 5:15, I love the way she moves when she is soloing :D

  • stop looking at her tits and ass and appreciate she's a great musician that will never date you.

  • I CAN STILL LOOK AND DREAM! :'(

  • sorry... I thought she was a playmate making a faked solo.

  • @stargate669 can you not appreciate both?

  • definately the kick ass track of them all out of grand wazoo!!!!! Hey what's that? more funky shit on this track...

  • Zappa owns.

  • just got this DVD because I can't seem them today in NY. So amazing.

  • lol what?

  • No, it isn't.

  • Sensational

  • Damn!

  • glorious

  • 6:50

  • scheila's such a better saxophonist when she's playing something smooth. this spaztic style doesnt do her much justice.

  • she's good whatever

  • Her solos were absolutely better live, when I saw ZPZ in Warsaw. I'll never forget the time she played theme of Pink Panther :)"

  • spaztic style??..

    well...you are brave xD

  • Holy shit!

  • dweezil is amazing

  • HOLY SHIT

    That Was Fuckin BRUTALLY HEAVY!

  • why didnt George come along?

  • He's too busy these days playing shitty neo-soul type music. George doesn't smell the funk anymore.

  • I saw George on Saturday at the Northseajazzfestival in Rotterdam and I really liked what he played.

I just didn't liked the fact, that tthere also was a strang singer. (In fact it was two concerts in one)

  • You don't know what your talking about. I saw FZ and the Mothers at least 25 times from 1968 to his untimely death in 1993. FZ would be proud of Dweezil's playing no doubt. This music should be protected from being played live for money by every pretender out there and that includes PO and the Grandmothers. There was only one FZ & The MOI. Leave it at that. PS You probably wouldn't know a great guitar player if they were playing right in front of your ignorant ass.

  • quen0cups ...P/O is the real deal. BUT, if ZPZ is puttin out music and people are buyin it and keepin frank alive, i'm all for it. i hear gail is at it again. when will she learn?. ask nappy.too! ahem...this is a nice version. thanks for the post

  • Sounds pretty good to meeEEEEEEEEE......!!!

  • The keyboard and bass work is excellent . A solid A ........... The sax isnt horrible but it doesnt win you over either . Theres a few moments of real courage there but others that just fall flat I give it a C+ / B- ................ The percussion is great B+ ....... the xylophone is killer A-

  • In fact there's marimba, not xylophone

  • vibraphone and electric marimba

  • im diggin that bass player's groove ^.^

greaat shit,im a bass player and im very impressed with ZPZ,greaat interpretations of Franks great work ^.^.

  • Wow. I'm speechless (for once).

  • nothing less than a masterpiece... wonderful solos great performance! great musicians and above all a genius spirit! Frank ftw

  • i hope when he plays with claypool theyll bust skerik out for this solo

  • Scheila Gonzales is a bloody genius. Her sax playing has that staccato Maceo influence that I love so much.

The Rhodes piano intro is nothing short of classic.

Zappa has constructed a wonderful vehicle for improvisation with this song. ZPZ does a fantastic job!

  • So Iv'e been reading all the comments on this page.......what the hell are you people talking about?

  • Sheila doesn't sound anything like Trane. First of all, she's playing an alto, not a tenor. She bites the reed. So what? there's no multiphonics. You have no idea what you are writing. Actually, her timbre sounds closer to Eddie Harris. Her solo is pretty much in a single blues scale. It isn't fantastic but it doesn't suck like some claim either. It's perfect for this piece. I dig it. So she's not Trane or Anthony Braxton. Who cares?

  • Comment removed

  • Sheila's playing here is terrific, tells the story. Anyone who says this is subpar prolly doesn't know wtf they are talking about. ignore such stupidity. I dig it and I DO know what I'm talking about (jazz musician for over 30 years). No, it isn't the Grand Wazoo big band but it's still very hot stuff.

  • Magnolia, Face Like A Bag of Spanners, Robot 45217892, Tired of Handing Out Hand-Jobs, Rachel, Herman, Clitoris, Gordon, Tony, George, Igor, The Little Lord Jesus, Deke and myself were all wondering when the bombing was going to stop.....?

  • Cornucopia, Gag Me With A Spoon and myself, Senator Regine Wanna Wanna Ennema demand to know, just what the hell are your collective policies on saddling children with arty names in the senate or anywhere......

  • Scheila's tone and her intonation are excellent. But just about everything else about her solo was awful.

  • Colostomy, Incontinence, Marie, Cindy, Celebrity, Confusia and myself couldn't resist smirking at the thought that the featured young lady, sweating profusley and with lips clamped unceremoniously round a horn while gentlemen looked on admiringly,...well,....never mind.....

  • Iris, Magenta, Zircon Encrusted Tweezer, Snake For A Pet, Dolly, Magnolia

and me were just wondering, would that nice Mr Zappa be available to tickle the collective treats of we ladies of advanced ages who unashamedly get off on his thanng, daddyo!!...... ,or is he too busy at the momen

  • Mr Zappa would often comment after a particularly circuitous, meandering and involved horn solo by the likes of Ian Underwood or whoever "I pay these cunts good money, but will they shut up so I can sculpte a screaming, feedback-ridden guitar work-out that has the punters queuing up at my hotel room later, will they buggery!!!"...I would invariably cough judiciously and beat a retreat that the word 'hasty' seems inadequate to describe in its promptness....

  • I vividly remember Mr Zappa taking me to one side one morning and whispering the following words into my shell like..." do you think Wakka Jawaka stinks as an album title...?."...I shook my bonce and effected

a retreat that messrs. Bonaparte and Hitler, mired in their respective military campaigns in Mother Russia would have deemed propitious and which the word 'hasty' merely conveys a smidgeon of the haste with which it was conducted....

  • I was chuckling with Cherie over toast and Palestinians the other day, and we were both wondering how two ugly over-achievers like us had managed to ingratiate ourselves with a right-wing Republican administration run by a cretin and helped him trash various countries that, like, neither of us had ever heard of before, and STILL,like, end up as respected multi-millionaires without a sniff of being strung up by the Hague War Crimes Tribunal for, like, ANYTHING!!....its' bloody brilliant, MATE!!

  • I'm convinced that the saxophone work on this popular music record is a major contribution to the legacy of the talented American rock musician called Frank Zappa, and I will be saying as much to President Bush when I next meet him to tickle his balls and agree to the carpet bombing of whichever Third World state he deems fit to destroy next in the name of freedom.

  • You guys amaze me - why you don't write to Dweezil and ask "Why did you hire that girl? We are all more clever than you. You obviously don't know what a good sax player is. You shouldn't have hired her.

And, oh yes, I saw it on youTube, it's clearly fake."

All the comments on youTube on "this is not as good as [insert musician here]" makes me want to puke.

  • qué jodido sax!!! un deshonor para la música de Zappa!!!

  • Wtf is this. FZ is spinning in his grave.

  • "spinning in his grave"?

    That's dancing, not spinning.

  • yeah sure!

Why don't you just go ahead mister anyone!

  • Maybe this sax solo is really OK, but nothing compared with the organ solo from the studio album.

  • Utterly astonishing musicians!!!!

  • was this played on december 20 2006??

  • is this played in vancouver queen elizebeth theater? because this seems like the concert i went to

  • Sounds like Sheila has been listening to Johns Coltrane!

  • all the squealing aside, i can't see ANY resemblance with Coltrane there

  • these guys was the best live! god bless frank and his mind-blowing music

  • eat tat question simple y cierto Mr Z the BEst!

  • Dweezil you are a credit to your family... Cheers

  • You know I love this song, but that is not a good sax solo. I'm sorry.

  • Jazz isn't dead. It just smells funny!!!!

  • @Steelydan4 i challenge you to do it better Donald.
