Greece had liberty only in the sense they had direct democracy, they had no freedom, individual rights or free expression, or respect for innocent life. All of these things emerged from Christian ideas

None of the concepts and values you refer to derived from Christian ideas. In fact, the early church turned the clock back on such liberal values: eg women lost their equal roles in society much as they have been oppressed by some modern Islamic societies; non-believers were attacked, eg the defacing of Egyptian temples and the burning of the library at Alexandria.

The treatment of unwanted babies changed with the introduction of Christianity, as did the attitude towards individual rights/equality, because of the Christian ideas that each life is precious and humans were created equal.

Funny how Christians believed that every life is precious then slaughtered those of other faiths and the Protestants, and the Church ground down the peasantry and owned huge estates and wealth. Killing unwanted babies has been practised just as much in Christian societies and the only solution is pre-birth abortion.

@Vorticistick you confuse christianity with the 'chutch by which you mean the catholic one. You can be, like me, a christian who does not follow any organisation and does it his own way. I believe in contraception and the use of condoms etc. and that gay people can do as they wish within reason. I also think that a repressed sexual atmosphere is wrong but that has little to do with christianity, more the culture that it is most common in.

The point is that when the Church in the past committed terrible crimes, it was defying Jesus's teachings and the Ten Commandments in doing so.
