Well done! I'd like to suggest that you don't call it an "ordinary" piece of rope. When a magician calls something "ordinary" it immediately screams that it is gimmicked. Simply saying "this piece of rope" is enough and doesn't cause suspicion. Just a thought. Keep practicing and working on story lines. I perform this effect professionally for kid and family shows and it plays for more than 4 minutes with both kids and adults laughing hysterically as the rope is stiff when I'm not looking.
