I love this ride..I remember it from when I was little, going to WDW every year on family vacays..one of my parents favorites too!! Still have this song ingrained in my brain:)
@jujub0404 the thing is that was "Easterns" ..... Eastern was the official airlines of Walt DisneyWorld back then, that's why it was "you do have wings, you can have all these things, Eastern, the wings of man".....I think that was there whole shpeel. After them it was Delta for Dreamflight. I don't see them changing this until Toy Story dies down a little but I agree it sure would be nice to see it again.
<3 this video..I remember this ride from all my childhood trips to WDW!!! Miss it & wish they'd bring it back..better than ever..At least I can watch this & 're-live' it:)
Man...this brings back some incredible memories! I grew up in Orlando in the 70's as a kid and we'd go to The Magic Kingdom several times a year. This was one of my favorite rides.
Wow didn't know there was a whole other video of this ride on youtube. Till now I only knew about the other two ( which are both the same) but this one has way better video quality, it's not as dark and shows a bit more giving me the real feeling of what it was like.
Man, does this bring back good memories! I went to WDW at least twice a year since it opend in the 70's till 2003 and this was allways my favorite ride! I miss this so much. I too would like to get the music to this. Thank you very much for keeping that tape and posting this
This ride didn't really make much sense. What was it supposed to be about? I didn't see any references to flying or having wings anywhere. I guess I should be glad they replaced it. Dreamflight was better.
I'm also an rct3'er and I made a delta dreamflight recreation, including the warehouse building it was in. I've been thinking about modifying it to support all the different rides the same building had over time, including if you had wings. do you know the timeline of the ride? (when you see this scene, when you see the next scene)
I.O.W., I might just make an rct3 recreation of If You Had Wings - given enough information.
@powerpup97 The answer is at the end. They said it a little different in '85, but this is how i remember it from the '70's "You do have wings... you can... do all these things... Eastern... can take you there."
My daughter actually won a ticket when DisneyWorld was having their 15th birthday celebration. I think it was every 15 seconds someone won something going through the turnstyle and she was the one who got the ticket. It's a cool ticket with the whole 15th anniversary logo on it that we've never used. I wonder if it's worth something?
remember this attraction very well, no ticket needed. this was the first airline I traveled ...disney has a very wonderful trading pin for this attraction under "remember when...". when I ride buzzlight with me children I still remember the high speed camera during the tunnel scene...
Hey, don't you see some of the pics in this ride in the Mexico ride and I think the Delta Dreamflight ride has some Horisons in it.?WOW I wish Disney would bring back some of the old stuff for us again. Oh and I like the old Tomorrowland as well ...it's kind of ugly now!!
When my family would go to WDW, it would be of course in the summer. 100 degrees and just as humid-like pea soup. This ride, you could sit, be hit with a.c. and fans. It was great and corny...my sister and I would crack each other up!!! Awesome memory...thanks for the post!!!
I remember this ride back in the day. Especially the projection of the seagulls flying over-head. But one thing I noticed when watching this video is just how similar this ride is to EPCOTs Mexico boat ride.
I think they actually took some footage from Wings and stuck it in the boat ride. This was the very first ride we ever went on the first time we went to Walt DisneyWorld in 1975 so it has a special place in my heart!
I was born in 1975, so that is really cool to read. I think the first time I ever went to WDW was in 1978 or 79. I remember this ride and the tiny people swimming in the pool. I also remember the birds turning into airplanes as you enter the ride!
At the end of the video I can catch a glimpse of the Peoplemover ride, so I have to ask if you have video of the whole Peoplemover ride from this same time period which included a look-down on "If You Had Wings?"
Sorry to hear that, but I guess that's to be expected. If the video is of the full ride and has full distinct sound that would still be worth hearing since I've never heard full audio of the "ORAC-1" narrator mentioning "If You Had Wings" along the way.
This was such a fun ride and a nice "cool" place to rest in the hot summer months. It went away a long time ago, unfortunately, when Eastern folded. Dreamflight came next, then Buzz Lightyear. I still miss it. Thanks for posting!!
Thanks for this! I went to WDW in February (I hadn't been to WDW since 1977 or 1978). I was going crazy looking for this ride (totally forgetting that Eastern Airlines had gone belly-up). Finally, a Disney "Cast Member" set me straight. Thanks for the memories!
This was a free ride back in the day of tickets. It was a great ride. Its effect was not that much different than the current Soarin', although done in a simpler way.
Brings back so many memories of a simpler, happier time. Thank you so much for posting! I miss that ride and all the other rides that have been trashed in the name of progress! :(
I remember the 1st time I rode this ride in May 1979, I was only 13 at the time. I loved it. This video brings back DisneyWorld memories of long ago. I also loved the New Orleans part in the ride since I am from New Orleans.
I have been looking for videos of this ride for years, this is the first time I have seen a full video of it. Is the ride less lit then the successor, Dreamflight, or is it just the camera? Hope this message doesn't post twice (I had to rewrite it after it seemingly didn't post).
This is the first time I've seen a full video of this ride. Was it a less lit ride then the successor, Dreamflight, or was it the camera that made it seem dark?
I can remember when i was little being scared in the "speed room" on this ride and i was always scared that it would go fast again when we had to get off the ride and we would be able to exit on time. My older brother finally explained that it just seems like we are going fast.
I like when the ride was just about over and you had this wind in your face and looks like you were flying

Yep Eastern Airlines "the wings of man" the OFFICIAL airline of Walt DisneyWorld!
mcrtnyfan 3 years ago
It's probably the most blatant example of the kind of advertising that theme park attractions (especially at Disney parks) are.
And, Eastern Airlines - isn't THAT a blast from the past! Were they the official airline of WDW? Wouldn't surprise me.
Don't get me wrong - I'm a true postmodern - I like all this kitsch.
