sad to say but most us based airlines got rid of all their planes that required flight engineers.its just cheaper for the airlines but fedx flies then!!! for now anyway..
I love the sound of those Pratt and Whitney engines on takeoff ! The 757 is a sexy and powerful aircraft......that kind of power is especially appreciated when trying to get out of a crime infested ghetto like Memphis....
I Fly the MD11 and the plane reduces thrust it self for about two seconds so the engine pressure does not build up heat because then fuel does not get burned properly. Reduces stress on the engine. when you go full thrust lots of pressure is being built up on the plane so reducing causes the engine less stress and no problems for the engines.
haha I felt the same way when I was a child too! Later on, I discovered that in spite of reducing power, the plane is actually accelerating rather then decelerating. This, I think, is because more power is required to get an airplane airborne than to sustain flight. But what I found mysterious in this video is why the pilot reduced power on the runway itself...!
it's probably becuase he was gaining speed a little to fast. It look like there might of been a tail wind pushing the aircraft. Just stating my opinion but he did throttle up during the climb.
I don't think that's quite right. If the aircraft gained speed more quickly than usual, the plane would just reach rotation speed quicker. Same goes for a ferry flight. With no pax and baggage, an empty airplane really performs differently because it is so much lighter, but you don't see the pilots doing a takeoff run at 70% power so they don't "gain speed too fast."
@tjisnumbaone Well...HERE"S a thought. Since ATLANTA is Delta's MAIN HUB: it is possible that the aircraft was being "turned around as they say ...to be used on another flight that was traveling a longer distance. Airlines don't just keep aircraft at the same airport all of the time. It wouldn't be profitable.
must have been like 85% n1 on the takeoff roll. Empty aircraft and lean on fuel

memphis! :D loads of olllld memories at that airport

Nice video.
The engine was just settling down. They wouldn't have reduced thrust because the runway was contaminated with the current conditions.

what about short runway/noise abatement TO's? they go full thrust a lot

How come the pilot reduces power at about 0:38? Shouldn't full power be applied for takeoff?
vtesc 2 years ago
yea i always questioned that and it used to make me nervous

Ah. Thanks! But isn't gaining speed fast during takeoff a good thing?
vtesc 2 years ago
you don't want to gain to much qmounts of speed than you have not a huge risk but a raised risk of over-stressing the aircraft
shadddey5 2 years ago
ohhhhh ok I think I understand now. Thanks for clarifying!
vtesc 2 years ago
no problem

why in the world would DL send a PTV 757 from MEM-ATL?
tjisnumbaone 2 years ago
there were not ptv's on this 757, just the overhead screens

ohh...I saw the engine having the new color and just assumed it was a PTV plane. that plane must have just been re-painted.
