I don't know that the violin 'should' be harder, since it has the aid of a fingerboard and smaller string ranges. One thing that's definitely true is that violinists suffer much more physical strain from playing their instruments due to the unnaturalness of the technique and thus need more physiotherapy often, so I guess you could call it harder in that it's less intelligently designed.
