  • thats a weird sounding snare

  • he kill that shit

  • if you thought it was funky fat time at :47

  • Chuck Norris disliked this....

  • Sadly, I have to say I've heard better pieces written/played. This is still better than anything I can do, I'm just saying I'm not surprised he didn't win first

  • Dudeeeeee..... that head swag at 1:12 hahahaha money !

  • not better than keelan no dick riding but stll great

  • such a great player!

  • Comment removed

  • total inspiration!!! i just got snare captain for my drumline this year and i am hoping that ill be good enough for a DCI corps as soon as i am out of college

  • @ZPAYNE93 by the time you are out of college you will be aged out. Audition for a corps ASAP.

  • I appreciate talent like this because it encourages me as a young percussionist to keep practicing and playing because I know I can be great someday. Thanks man.

  • my chops hurt from watching

  • eh, great drummer but not into the solo.

  • BY THE WAY THIS GUY MARCHED IN A HBCU BAND WHEN HE WAS IN COLLEGE SO SCREW YOU GUYS WHO THINK HBCU'S DONT HAVE GOOD PERCUSSIONISTS. THIS GUY IS PROOF THAT THEY DO. HE MARCHED FOR HAMPTON UNIVERSITY.

  • @TheDragonmaster18 not him but you can look at the talent on SCSU and Norfolk. They could compete with a lot of the talent in DCI

  • @TheDragonmaster18 yeah it's not there isn't talent at HBCUs - it's the idiocy the movie produced where everyone at a high school thinks they're an awesome drummer like in the movie even though they can't read music. "man play that nick cannon stuff!" - listen I was the only white dude on my HS drumline and everyone had serious talent, but we still got the retards that came in thinking they could drum, when they couldn't, just because of that awful movie (and they got rejected).

  • i arrived funkytown right when he started drummin on that snare

    AWESOME SOLO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • you look like tracy morgen

  • 1:09 thats such a simple groove, and yet he makes it sound so tight

  • Why are black people so good at snare?!?!

  • @saidincontent its in our blood that's why. percussion has been in ur culture since the beginning. back when there were a lot of tribes in Africa every song or cadence that was played on the percussion instruments had a story behind it. something that was meaningful. and we are also good at playing instruments because we are born with rythm unlike most people who are not black.

  • I like and hate the sound of the drum, the thud sounds like it gets an odd rebound.

  • huhuhuhuhuh..... Nader.... Its funny cause hes the green party

  • he shouldve won

  • how did this guy not get 1st place for this? this is one of the best i&e i have ever seen. and that beat that he played from 1:40-1:51 is the shit!!

  • @rog92er cause emmanuels solo was (hard to believe) but a little better! haha it's awesome cause now they're on the same line

  • (My video resoloution is crap). What is the rudiment sequence used at 0:40?

  • BEST I&E I'VE SEEN

  • nigga is raw...

    Lol.

    is he in 2010 BD?

  • @secondshen yeah

  • @secondshen ya

  • Sick yo dat shit was dope

  • did he place

  • he plays similiar to Takayuki Nakabe

  • @ Chopp3dOuT

You think he would've really made Blue Devils snareline if he didn't know how to play in time? Are you really that ignorant, as to the skill level of the activity?

  • this guy knows how to dance with his snare, and that's how the snare should be played. Great job, I really enjoy it.

  • Wow that really sounds like mylar! So he is playing on Kevlar? great hands. I saw a couple of small ticks but overall great job.

  • Comment removed

  • he's not playing on mylar haha

thats just how he tuned the drum

  • @phantomarsh that's how the entire line's was tuned. they had alot of notes, and they tuned them so low to hid dirt.

  • @phantomarsh that's how the entire line's was tuned. they had alot of notes, and they tuned them so low to hide dirt.

  • @ARZiehm oh okay. I don't like when lines do that... but gotta do what you gotta do I guess

  • @phantomarsh yeah i definitely agree. cause I'm not going to lie that drum dosn't sound very good IMO

  • this guy helps out ourbattery during marching season. i didnt know he was this good

  • dude. he helps ours out too, what school do you go to?

  • Hey, choppedout:

A: When he says, whatever the fuck that means for a solo type situation, he means that there is no "out of time" for a single person playing a solo. They can do whatever they want because it's their solo.

B: Why isn't it the case that this music has accelerandos and and retardondos? Once again, it's his solo.

C: He doesn't try to change the tempo, time signature or anything every couple beats. He tries to write a creative and interesting to listen to solo.

  • its sounds just like how i excpect a black guys solo to sound

  • hahaha

  • @Chopp3dOuT what the fuck you sayin bro?

  • @ Chopp3dOuT out of time? out of rhythm? Hey dumbfuck, this is a SOLO; therefore the performer is free to play how they want (and that includes rhythm & tempo).

Stop making up with random incorrect adjectives to put down the solo and just admit that you're a racist who is upset that black people are performing in world class ensembles and competing I&E just as well as any other race.

oh, and by the way, spell check is your best friend, shit for brains.

  • @Tenorsarefun well if you really think that a solo cant be played outa time, or outa rhythm... then you are the dumbfuck.

And spellcheck? seriously? i thought yall were supposed to be GOOD at comebacks. You dissapoint your ppl

  • you're such an ignorant fuck. If this solo was "out of time" (whatever the fuck that means for a solo type situation), then every other solo was out of time as well.

Who the hell have you heard of that plays a solo straight through at the same tempo, in the same basic time signature like 4/4? That shows talent, and creativity, playing in different time sigs, throwing off the meter a bit, making the performance feel less boring.

What the fuck did you expect him to play? 8 on a hand?

  • alright, show me EXACTLY WHERE in this video, that the soloist is playing "out of time" and "out of rhythm", since I, the dumbass, clearly have NO IDEA when someone can't keep a consistant tempo. Go ahead right ahead and type it in. It shouldn't be that hard considering you're the musical expert here, and the video is under 4 minutes, right? I'd love to see you point out the errors in this video and justify your flawless opinion. Go for it.

  • no offense but 2:18 - 2:42 has fluctuations. But IMO when soloing, it doesnt matter if your change tempo like that cause you play how you feel and not how it feels when your all togethor on a line. and if the phrasing should feel like it shifts on either side of the beat then i think thats ok.

and cmon, just enjoy the vid. he performs great.

  • No offense taken, however those aren't necessarily fluctuations. They can be interpretated that way, but how do we know that from the soloist's point of view, those weren't just quick accelerandos, or rhythm changes? The fact is, that we don't know. You could for example play a bar of 5-lets and switch it around with 6-tup-lets, and yes it would sound to the observer as a fluctuation, however to the player it could be completely different.

  • @ AjaxHammer6, I appreciate your comment 10X more than Chopp3dOuT because at least you can see beyond his race, and acknowledge the different aspects of a SOLO situation rather than just put down.

@ Chopp3dOuT, he can OBVIOUSLY play in tempo, in rhythm, (and whatever the hell else you want to say) clean with the rest of a line. It's just a completely different situation. Grow the fuck up.

  • @Tenorsarefun thats cute, you made a friend

  • You still didn't point out where in the solo that it's "out of time" & "out of rhythm" LOL.

Prove your point of "how black people play" by going to his channel RNader12 and watching/commenting on his videos. (at least in those videos, he's actually playing exercises/book, NOT soloing, so you have plenty of room to talk shit on his tempo and rhythm. That is if you have the fucking balls. I wanna hear more of what you have to say (especially since in this case, he can actually see your comments)

  • Comment removed

  • show boating = points btw.

1:28 = meter change not accelerando, therefore he did not fail.

2:00-2:14 = barely noticeable unless you really pay attention. he "broke" for a like half a second but recovered therefore thats uaually overlooked as long as he recovers.

and yeah, no offense bro, but you do sound racist.

  • @chopp3dout

fuck you bitch i hope you get shot and your house gets bombed

  • wheres your I&E sir

  • for example, your talking crap in this video also as well. your a douchebag

  • so you're saying that a persons skin color dictates what they play? what kind of music they listen to? so does the winning Vanguard solo sound like a Latino? or as you'd probably say, a mexican?

  • @Chopp3dOuT wow your a racist fuck. get the fuck out of america!

  • this is amazing i wish there were music for it

  • Wow amazing solo, this is one of my all-time favorites. Great Playing.

  • excellent work!

  • I would like to say Thanks a lot for the comments! I enjoyed myself putting this together and finally experiencing the I&E world.

  • This solo is sick! So sick! What do you call this at 0:25?

  • the badass stick spin

  • @RNader12 when are you coming back to DCI

  • @meatwad314 He aged out last season

  • @tommy2122108 nah he had a possibility for an intern somewhere but it fell through, he'll be trying out next season most likely.

  • @strenuous No. He marched last season. Meaning the 2010 season. It was his age out year.

  • @RNader12 S.I.P.D.HHHHH.....

  • @RNader12 you owe me a challenge!!! lol, Proud of you man.

  • For president.

  • That was some great playing!!!

  • i agreed with punkfan 91.. that guy in scv is so bored..

  • as much as i dislike the blue devils

i think this guys should have won 1st place instead of that guy from scv

  • wow. holy shit...

  • I love that drum

  • It is a privilege to see a student go light years beyond what he was first taught!

  • 102 on Purpose rim shots Biiiiiiiiiiiitchhhh

  • Why 102?

  • lol......cause dude below me,

SnareBeast232, says that.......i was just emphasizing

  • Oh haha gotcha ;)

  • LOL his name is Ralph Nader. That's so funny.

  • Dont start no shit!!!!!!!!!

  • What are you talking about...?

  • nevermind!

  • How did Emmanuel beat this!?

  • Exactly!!!!!! He had his 'peeps' beef it up A LOTTTTT

  • HAha yeah! Not dissing Emmanuel or SCV at all, but the audience WAY overhyped his performance. It was good, don't get me wrong, but Nader kicked his ass imo.

  • awesome god job men!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Did he age out?

  • The 2010 season will be his age out.

  • he's too good. play another instrument already, we can see you mastered that one already gosh.

  • ralph has the best musical interpretation i have ever heard out of a snare drum player

  • He should have won

  • didn't this guy run for president? lol

    j/k.

  • haha same thing i thought when i saw it. you have to think that when seeing his name lol.

  • lmao

    hes white. but ya.

hes been running for like 20 years never won haha

  • I think the 1st place guys technique and tuning was a little better, buttttt!!! Ralph I think did to much for the judges to catch. even his grooves were tough, playing with rates and whatnot, I think he was ripped...

  • So, what's with the side skirt that all of the BD players are wearing?

  • It's part of the uniform. It adds some flair.

  • i like it! i honestly didn't notice it before, lol. i wish our college uniforms had it.

  • Why are some of the best drumers name Ralph? Ralph Hardimon/ Ralph Nader lol

  • That's only two haha. I see what you're saying though.

  • The thing I really like about his solo is that it's musical, challenging, AND entertaining. That's what it's all about.

  • man one thing i know.. when u start having haters... that means ure doin a fkin good job.. keep it up ralph.. One Love from Kuala Lumpur Drumline Corps, Malaysia.

  • This solo got groove! The snare sounds terrible though.

  • Agree. I was waiting for him to turn the snares on the whole time. :D

  • the drums too dry for my tastes

  • it was tuned for indoors.

  • i must say...i'm no blue devil fan, but from what i've seen from casey and ivan, i think this is one of the better blue devil solos i've seen in a while..... ivan is much too showy and rhythmically inaccurate...this guy's good...AND he can groove!

  • Ummmm....there are a handful of drummers who even have the right to critique someone who plays at this level. I'm not one of them so I'll say what is obvious - FABULOUS JOB!!!!

    B. Green C.R.E.A.M. Percussion Staff

  • you aint no nick cannon........ lol

  • haha nice

  • hey ralph! ive supported your 3rd party presidential candidacy!

  • YOU NO NO ONE VOTES FOR THAT CRACKA.

  • Good stuff Boonie!

  • I can really appreciate Nader's material more than some of the more technical and less groovy and creative solos from I&E.

  • my man ralph is too sharp....get on his level...no homo lol

  • lets go Boonie!!!! You beastin baby

  • RALPH NADER LOLOLROFLMAOZOMGBBQ

  • Ralph Nader will never win an election.

  • I hope you die for taking everything literally. Go sit on a train track.

  • Comment removed

  • Comment removed

  • I didn't tell you to sit on a train track when a train is coming. That would be stupid, and I would expect a person to get up off said train track when they saw that a train was coming.

Good thinking can be done on train tracks. People tend to stay away from them, so one would be relatively undisturbed. You could think about how to change your approach to life and not taking everything so literally, as I suggested.

    -_-

  • Neat little maneuver you did there. Working AROUND your implications, I applaud you, whether you want me to or not.

  • There's a pretty well known politician also named Ralph Nader, however he never wins anything. But that's not the point. Ralph Nader (the politician) doesn't run to win, he runs to take away votes from a certain candidate. For example, people who voted for Ralph Nader ina certain election may have otherwise voted for John McCain or Obama.

  • hey.......shut up, yeah?

    no.

  • i love you and your brutal honesty.

  • I'd just like to add that BD's uniforms this year were AWESOME. It'd be neat to see BD use them more.

  • this dude should have gotten first

  • Comment removed

  • Well, three things:

    1) Center snare isn't always the best. Usually it's just the guy/girl who has the most experience being on the line. It's more like a leadership role rather than an "I'm better than everyone else" role.

    2) With the above taken into consideration, you also have to determine if there are any center snares that compete at all.

    3) Just because you're a good player doesn't make you a good solo writer. Now correct me if I'm wrong, but these guys write their own solos, right?

  • Sorry, I'll try to portray myself as an arrogant prick by making people think I actually know significant information concerning high school introductory chemistry more often.

That's sarcasm, just so you aren't scratching the crabs in your pubes.

  • DAMN! FUCKING OWNED!!! betoyeyo should be shitting his pants right now from you smacking his ass back to reality!

  • You are a bastard.

  • w.e yall just to shut up and yes his name is ralph nader he is mii cuzzin

  • your name is ralph nader???

  • go manny!!!!!! SCV JONZ 09 4 LIFE!!!!!!!!!!!

  • wrong vid lol

  • Comment removed

  • his shots sound awful. otherwise pretty sweet

  • This guy is awesome... i think i love him

  • snare looks and sounds like shit

  • i agree

  • There wasn't one good soloist with BD this year. Did all of the talent march PR?

  • no, BD had some good talent but nothing I&E. SCV had all the I&E talent this year. Next year BD will have a crazy ass drummer. He's marching infinity now

  • O.K., fair enough. I can't wait to see the infinity guy.

  • Right, BD clearly has no good soloists or talent.

How hard is it to admit all of them have talent and accept the fact first place is decided upon a fraction of a point. You sound so disrespectful.

  • I marched PR snare from 87-89. So, I know all about fractional wins.

The statement that I made about BD is in reference to the talent that marched that line in recent years past. None of the current player come close to and Ivan or Casey. That is a fact and isn't at all disrepectful.

    Go practise!

  • claiming BD has no talent when compared to PR simply because of ivan and casey is very ignorant. how can you say a corps has no talent just because 2 previous members won an I&E. your exaggerating their success and make moronic statements because of this. you have to have talent to march in a corps, and you dont have to do I&E to have talent.

    also, *practice.

  • The PR reference was with respect to knowing what its like to loss a world championship be mere fractions of a point. Perhaps, you know the story of DCI 1989. So, there was no comparison between the talent of PR and BD.

When comparing the present to the past it is perfectly reasonable to compare and contrast. I did this with the entire BD snare line of last year and two former stellar BD players: Casey & Ivan.

  • In my personal experience in marching a top three corps snare line, the best usually compete in I&E--the rockstars of the snare line.

Again, if the best are in I&E and they're not very good, then the rest of the line isn't worth mentioning.

Now, I've tanned your ass for the second time. You really do need to practise. Who knows, you might let you play triangle.

    I never stopped practicing sparky.

I have a great book for you; Haskell Har Drum method: Book One. Learning it!

    --QED

  • once again, your argument is that a corps has no talent if it has no "rockstars" that compete in I&E. there is no proof behind your claim of these show-offs being any better than the rest of the line. some choose to do it, some don't. your entire argument is based on a skewed assumption. also, how does one soloist have so much more talent than another when they only win by a fraction of a point. its ridiculous to say 2nd place didnt have talent when 1st only won by a fraction of a point.

  • No, that isn't my argument. That is your rewrite of my argument. I said that the I&E performers are normally the best of the line. These players are normally right in the middle of the snare line, and that is where you place your best. That is the proof skippy and it isn't skewed.

As for fractional wins, I was refering to corps level scores. So, again you rebuttal show a lack of reading comprehension. You must really work on that; otherwise, you'll never get anyone to take you seriously.

  • also, these shots you're taking at me are pointless. maybe your just sad because you can't march anymore, aww, now THATS cute. :)

  • Actually, i've made no real personal attacks, but rather have only critiqued your statement. I consider the t
