Ok this video is kind of frustrating... I have lived in a family of nutritionists for years... both my parents, my uncle, and one of my grandparents are nutritionists. I have been studying nutrition for years also. All the hype about anti-oxidants is plain and simply stupid. Yes, anti-oxidants are very healthy and have benefits and stuff, but not all of them are processed by our body, so it doesn't matter how much we eat, but the quality of the anti-oxidants. Our bodies really can only use
5,000 ORAC a day, when you ingest more than that, it doesn't really do anything more. Also, whole grains are good as long as they don't contain gluten. Many people think breads and such are good for you. Darker grains such as pumpernickel aren't bad per-say, but they aren't really good either. Wheat is extremely hard to digest, and if possible, should be completely avoided altogether and replaced with rice flour or hemp flour. Soy is bad too, for other reasons.
Also, omega 3 is very overrated too... omega 3s are nothing without omega 6 and 9. Too much omega 3 without omega 6 and 9 is actually proven to have adverse effects. There are different types of omegas too. Omega 3 can be broken down into ALA and DHA. There is a lot of controversy on which is better for you. Look it up if you are curious. Our race as humans was fine 20 years ago before all this health food hype. (This is a three part comment, read the comments before it.
im eating a salad right now with lettuce, kale, carrots, buttermilk ranch, and a little bit of lime juice. its pretty good, i don't like the kale though.. i can deal with it.
@JudasPriestLiam yes you have to give up candy except extra-dark chocolate and you have to give up fast food items with lots of hydrogenated oils and refined sugars/carbs. If you want to stay healthy you need foods with lots of potent anti-oxidants and you need at least 30 minutes of exercise a day at least three days a week and weight training at least 15 minutes a day twice a week.
Excellent choices, inspirational for those who truly wish to have good health. Some object that all foods are modified, which is not true, when possible buy locally, and it's okay to ask where the fruit and vegetables come from. thanks so much for posting this!
Grains are the worst thing you can have. Grains are promoted for financial reason mostly by the US government who are the largest exporter of grains in the world.
Genetic modification is leading to a massive increase in diseases globally, including new diseases we haven't heard of which are popping up constantly. They are destroying the world only to earn more money than they already do.
@futoncat I have psoriasis. Tomatoes may be especially bad for me but they are also especially delicious and I doubt I'll be able to stop eating them. In fact, I'd rather be diseased then give up pasta with tomato sauce.
@jquindlen19 I have it too, but I'd rather give up food than live with the disease. And it appears to be working nicely :) Everyone has their own way, though, i suppose :p
yes, I agree with slartibardfast (douglas adams reference), I suggest wholegrains like brown bread or brown rice, those are even better. Get a bread maker to avoid all the transfats, salt and sugar in commercial bread, there's tons of it in there.
Also, omega 3 can be obtained in huge quantities from flaxseed/linseed. It's a much more environmentally/ economically/ morally sound way to go than fish.
@slartibartfats yep. i stay away from cereals except the whole-grain ones with the good fats and low in suger and sodium. i eat a bowl of oatmeal everyday with soy milk and i add blueberries and cinnamon to give it flavor.-> i'm all about OPTIMAL HEALTH.

They forgot about 711 chili and cheese. Your body will never decay or need to be inbalmed when you die at age 45. Oh and 211 and marlbros.

olive oil is almost 100% monounsaturated fat devoid of any real nutrients, and Kale beats spinach as it is more dense in vital nutrients.
greg4161 2 months ago
@greg4161 Monounsaturated fat is a macronutrient, so still technically a nutrient (and the healthiest fat).

Real quality olive oil is packed with nutrients. Olive oil has been part of the human diet for more than 5000 years.

Tomatoes are nightshades. Give it a search if you aren't aware what those are. They are poisonous and especially bad for psoriatics.

If you enjoy water-melon,there's twice as much lycopene in it compared to tomatoes.

basically sound food advice but be careful about cereals as many brands contain excess salt and added sugars
