There are actually two films here. They should cut two films, and offer the public a choice: A competent, clever, charming, slick date movie; or a cynical, nauseating, dishonest pile of "solid-gold crap, maestro".

Bill Nighy is triumphant. For me the genius of it is best shown when he explains in the radio interview how the new song differs from the original ("... except we've replace 'love' with 'Christmas'"). His gesturing is every British aging rocker I have ever seen.
