Hi ironmonger100, is the original music suitable for Morris Dancing? I didn't grow up in the UK so don't know a lot about British folk music. When I listened to the other versions, I was reminded of Morris Dancing.
@charley388 Hey thanks for all your positive comments, I'm pleased you're enjoying my stuff :-) ... I wouldn't have said this was really Morris dancing music but maybe somebody will correct me. It's brass band stuff that has its roots in the North - Yorkshire etc.
Didn't know what to expect when I clicked on this link.
I'm a fan of Terry Wogan, which led me to the floral dance, which led me to the Brighouse and Rastrick original version, which consequently led me here.........
....And I'm so pleased it did!!!
Your version is fantastic, does the tune so much justice, credit to your talented playing.
Thanks for that, Shaun. I`ve only just discovered your version, though 8 years ago I wrote a book about the song and found some weird stuff, including a perf by a pop grp and by a jazz band. I`ve just been on t` radio and tv this week, banging on about it, as it`s exactly one hundred years ago since the original song was written.
Needless to say I`ve also listened to several of your other Ytube performances now!
@songsofcornwall Hi Ian, thanks for such a kind message, and sorry it's taken an age to reply! Yes, I don't know what possessed me to arrange this for Classical guitar but I heard it one day for the first time in decades and thought it might work! I enjoyed all your uploads - I'm in a folk trio (The Sally Ironmonger Trio) and we compose a lot of songs about our area (Medway, Kent) and play a lot of trad folk venues, although our music could not realistically be described as that. We do perform..
@songsofcornwall (cont..) ..Cousin Jack by Show of hands, a song about Cornwall I believe. Thanks for a fascinating insight into The Floral Dance and thanks again for the message. All best - Shaun
I'm learning this piece on my guitar too. I'm also in a brass band it would be so cool if we can play it in band! YOU ARE AMZING NEVER QUIT GUITAR! VERY WELL DONE, COULDN'T FIND ONE MISTAKE IN THAT! BRAVO!!!!
That was great! I loved playing this piece in my Brass Band and I was so surprised that it worked so well on the guitar. I don't suppose you know where I can find the tab of that, do you? I'd love to learn to play it too.
Absolutely brilliant! How about having a go at The Liberty Bell, (Monty Python)? I'm sure you could give a new lease of life.
