You Sir, are insane!! You have major Guts if you're will to pick up a snake, any snake at your age...what 18?? 20?? How old are you?? In this lighting you kind of look like a young Matt Dillon (Dally from outsiders). Third I am seriously jealous of your rural areas living in the suburbs of South Cali you don’t get snakes or any wild animals :'( OK that’s all :D
Very nice video, Brandon, I agree that the ribbon snake is really a very pretty snake. It's also good to see that you're still out and about doing the herping. Have fun my friend and do please be careful out there!
I live in eastern North Carolina and I'm greatl interested in your snake videos. Did you do a commentary on cottonmouths as you menioned was in the works on one of your cottonmouth videos. What in your experience and training iis the most aggressive poisonous snake in NC?
Enjoyed that ;) - quick point - they are not insectivorius. It was believed to be so but the insect fauna in their gut from early field studies was actually the pre-digested stomach contents of the amphibians that ribbons are known to prey on. Feeding a ribbon insects can actually lead to impaction/death in captivity.
@Fuggit I've seen them eating caterpillars and stuff, but yes, I forgot to mention they are heavy amphibian feeders, which would still make them affected by the water quality
@xxxHERPERxxx They do seem to go for the soft-'shelled' stuff. There's a problem in the hobby world where they are labeled as insect feeders though where impaction/starvation from offering a diet of crickets and locusts is common place. I think the dietary list is something like 90% amphibian. Always a worry for chemical input in the water table.
He probably finds a lot more than what he puts up in his videos. He usually picks one species to focus on for each one. Herping so far this spring has been pretty good for me in the piedmont of NC. Keep up the good work dude. Great videos. You definately have me beat on variety!
@noonesperfect16 Yea I've seen 3 hognose snakes, 1 eastern coachwhip, 1 copperhead, like 30+ cottonmouths, and other stuff I've already filmed, I should make a herping video on that stuff though, It's definately gotten warmed up for snakes so they are on the move now
Yep same here. I havent seen snakes cause the temps keep getting real warm one day and real cold the next. I got a ton of salamanders though. I'll definitely sub to you to see what you get later this season.
One of my herping heros ... true inspirations on why i do it. You get some killer shots man like at 2:47. Yep you and Dylan from Herping with Dylan have to be two herping gods :)
@1natureboy13 I guess i have better luck here in cali. I've already got 3 ringnecks, 7 alligator lizards, 5 skilton's skinks (caught four) at least a dozen sharptails, and a couple juvi garters. And then on a trip to the desert of joshua tree, a got a desert patchnose, a 5-foot pacific gopher, and lizards: desert side-blotched, 20+ desert iggys in 1 place, chuckwallas, ca whiptails, a long-nosed leopard (my favorite), zebra-tailed, mojave fringe-toed, desert night lizards, and 3 desert tortoises
@xxxHERPERxxx And proud of it lol! You should see the sackenii down here. The tan dorsal stripe starts to fade about 8 in down the back. Pretty cool heps. I've never had one strike at me, and they usually don't musk either. Sweet video, the habitat looks prime for Nerodia.
Im derrafied of snakes, any idea what i can do to not be afraid of them?
