@insertclevernickname Well, yeah, finally! After failing to score ANY golds in Montreal 1976 and Calgary 1988, it was ABOuT TIME Canada won some bling at home, otherwise, it would've been TOTALLY embarassing!!
Canada's GDP in 2008 was equal to 1.4 trillion U.S. dollars.
The 2010 Winter Olympics cost about 6 billion dollars which includes highway upgrades, a new convention centre, several new sports venues and the Canada Line subway, all of which will be used by Canadians for many, many years to come.
, maybe Russian? you failed and are simply a sore loser. for us Canadians it was a wonderful Olympic games so sorry to say but fuck you , you whining little bitch
Amazing how russians aren't nearly as strong at they used to be now that the World Anti Doping Agency and the respective sports federations have stepped up the testing procedures for banned stimulants.
As for their embarrasing medal haul? They did get 15- Canada only got 14.... oh whats that?... Canada got 14 GOLD?!?!...Well surely they at least won Men's Hockey??.... Sid the Kid did WHAT?!!!
The results of Vancouver games are not a total fiasco for Russia. They are far not optimal, but there are results. The actual situation is mainly the consequence of the social and administrative chaos of the 90's. I really expected a drop, as well some the exaggerations of people who like to despite Russia and Russian sport achievements. Good that Russian civil society and government want now to correct the faults committed in last years. Never late!
I hope people from other countries reading these comments don't think that all americans and canadians are like the obnoxious, catty, braging ones here who are embarrasing our countries by trying to diss eachother...
Embarrassing how the olympics are meant to reach accross the world and it's only a handful of nordic nations that perform well at the winter olympics.
Countries with populations of 10s to 30 millions outclast major countries such as india, china, etc haha..
remove all corrupted old bitches from the Sport Management! Give the green light to all young and talented kids in your huge country and you will see the biggest number of gold medals. And please do not forget to bring back to Russia all trainers who are working today in many different countries! It is not a secret Many of the champions are trained by Russians.
Lol that happens for everyone, almost all curling teams are coached by Canadians. There were many Canadian athletes competing for other countries. Its a global sports community now, deal with it.
Competing as part of the Soviet Union or a post-Soviet Unified Team, Russian Olympians finished first or second in total medals at 10 Consecutive Winter Olympics until 1992.
Leonid Tyagachev is the problem -- I don't know how to get around saying that. There is SOME excusing for the poor performance this year by Russian Olympians, because there is major talent vacuum at the mid-twenties age range; I still say better organization could have resulted in better showing.
More importantly, however, I saw VERY FEW young Russians recruited to compete, even at the qualifying round, which is inexcusable. Olympic experience would be incredibly good background for Sochi.
I think if anything this brought us closer with our neighbors in the world. Canada did such a good job, praise to Vanoc and the IOC, all the volunteers. And gotta give it to the Americans, played great Hockey, got the most medals (even though most were bronze) they really did a good job. Germany too, no ones saying to much but they were owning lots. And fourteen Golds including men AND women's hockey , couldn't have asked for a better result. And my God Ashley Mceiver is HOT!
@superstud666 Only a few assholes on the internet, most Canadians I know are generally open minded towards our neigbors to the south. Thinbk you might be projecting a little? or maybe an AMerican pretending to be Canadian? In fact I'm pretty sure most Canadians dont spend more than five minutes in their whole life mentally gloating over another country, its sorta un Canadian. Least not out west, can't speak for the east.
To all of our Guests who came from different countries around the world to attend the 2010 Vancouver Winter Olympic Games: THANK YOU! To all of our other Guests that "came" by television, radio, the internet, and all other media: THANK YOU! On behalf of my fellow Canadians, please come back to visit us, not just only at Olympic events, but at anytime; you are always welcome here! Au Revoir, Farewell, and have a safe trip home. P.S. Thanks for putting up with our "Hockey Crazy" attitude too. ;o)
well the sochi olympics are going to be much more exciting, their performance at the closing ceremony was spectacular, unlike Canada's which was as bland as the opening!
@koooookla The opening was spectacular; apparently you didn't see it. The closing was partly humorous and tongue-in-cheek; apparently you wanted a nuke set off or something...?
I'd hardly call it spectacular. And the technical malfunction and the torch bearer being driven to the torch in the back of a chevy with a burned out head light wasnt exactly awe inspiring...
as a canadian having wayne gretsky carrying the olympic torch in the downtown of my city is all a canadian should ask for...we dont need him on the back of a tank or with jets flying overhead to be proud that the olympics are here and proud to be canadian....this olympics belonged to canada and its never been a better time to be canadian
Do tell us where you live and we shall await with bated breath your city's flawless, appealing-to-everyone, spectacular, jaw-dropping, extravaganza. What the hell are you talking about? There were things I liked and didnt like about it and overall it wasnt that impressive. I think you were just blinded by olympic fever or national pride or something of the sort. And yes I saw the closing ceremonies but I wasnt talking about that at all...
