  • You know, Neo's reason for fighting really was freedom though. like Agent Smith said in the first place.

His ability to chose what he wants to do was what made his existence important to himself.

  • Such a half-assed answer designed to appeal to human sentimentality. There's no way to know if there is ever a choice to be made. In anything. Deal with it.

  • choice = free will = spontaneity = non-determinism = organicism = "magic"

meaningless of purpose = determinism = predictability = mechanicism = "science"

    which side do you choose?

  • @peperes2 The second one....

  • Why? Why do we continue? Why do we fight everyday to justify our existence? Because we choose to...

  • I'm surprised at how much thought we fans have put into what this means...

  • Oracle Agent Smith's point still stands in the end that it's pointless and they're temporary beings of delusion... I mean, we are. "I choose to" is simply expressing his desperate justification for meaning. His "freedom".

  • watch this is german, so funny

  • i love this scene because i choose to. XD

  • Choosing to persist isn't an explanation, it's the very thing that Smith is asking him to explain. Choosing simply means to do one thing rather than any other. When Smith asks him why he persists, Neo might as well be answering, "Because I persist." Smith at this time should give him an F.

  • Choice independant of context is incoherent and meaningless. What Smith has revealed is that Neo has no rational purpose to fight. Any reasonable person can see this, yet Neo remained in denial. He even admits Smith was right when he surrenders. Neo had no knowledge that the Matrix would use him to hack Smith. He simply followed the Oracles last word of advice and accepted defeat. "because I choose to" describes his stubborness instead of wisdom.

  • @AnotherMasterMind there is much wisdom in the phrase "I choose to."

  • @WarriorofDimensions What wisdom is that? People choose to do things because they are reacting to prior experiences. If someone makes a choice without reason, it's unreasonable by definition.

  • The only word Agents, programs or even Matrix can't understand:

    Choice.

  • Everything is choice.

  • @jweezy777 I kindof agree with Smith too though...the reason we exist is purpose, but the way we live by is choice.

  • Lol... pretty emotional for an agent.. i thought they did not have any emotions... this one got pretty angry

  • @MrAxemana Because some of neo copied into him and him into neo so that they were both the same just opposite ends of the spectrum. He was no longer an agent, he was free. Not to sound like a complete nerd haha

  • I don't get it. Because I choose to? What the fuck? So he acknowledges all that Smith says, and choses to accept all those sadening facts about human life. But chooses to live on, just because? Maybe it's not supposed to be logical, idk...

  • @SixtenD Everything Agent Smith said is true. There is no purpose, no reason. We just are. So why do YOU persist? Because you choose to.

  • @AbeChang2 i agree life is full of choices it is how u choose to make them is how your life turns out

  • Sums up the entire trilogy and all of life!: "Because I choose to."

  • Because I dont want to die in the mud.

  • @keyinregulus3 haha!

  • @keyinregulus3 That would be EPIC, simply EPIC.

  • Greatest villan of all time. Not even Nintendo's GANON can compete with him

  • Couldn't he just as easily have chosen not to "purr sist" ?

  • agent smith is so evil but so cool at the same time

  • because i choose to , epic speech by agent smith so true he cant understand why a human would bother to even exist

  • the best movie ever i love all the matrix....

  • Love? Illusions, Mr. Monderakos, vagaries of perception. Temporary constructs of a feeble human intellect trying desperately to justify an existence that is without meaning or purpose!

  • i was unsure of the meaning of neo's answer, but my best guess as to what it means is that "because i choose to" means that to be a human is to have free will.

  • A magnificent speech, the only thing agent smith can't comprehend is choice.

  • "Because I choose to"

...Fair Enough, can't argue with that.

  • You can't "choosed" to anything. Its "choose" or "chose"

  • oh, how embarrassing...thanks...

  • @Globodyne or chosen

  • haha smith cant choose because hes a machine and he can only follow what is writen for him

  • One agent to rule them all.

  • @sonicmonkey123

    One agent to find them

  • Because I choose to = Agent Smith's philosophy pwned.

  • @JohnGaltx64 Not really. Neo simply affirms the human condition.

  • @JohnGaltx64 No it is NOT "pwned" same example " Why do you keep doing drugs? "because i choose to" pwned? Of course not :D Smith is right vagaries of perception.

  • @ruhlXXXL:

Actually, those two are not comparable. In this, Agent Smith is commenting on the purpose of human existence, and why anything has the drive to survive. Thus, when Neo says, "Because I choose to.", he is saying that there does not need to be a reason. The simple tautological truth of existence is an answer.

As a program that operates on classical binary rules, EVERYTHING must have a logical reason. Everything must behave a certain way. This is why Neo's answer enrages Smith. Pwned.

  • Ha ha

    Agent Smith rulz!

  • wtf?!

  • lol theangelopolisimo drives so crazy don`t you by the way with a bad grammar

  • are you speaking english? wtf? lol, your english is utter shit, no offense.

  • me?yes i do:)

  • I.. you... I... never mind.
