  • I love this bit of the tape! "At 9'0' clock comedy with the Beryl Reid show, Oh shit!" LOL love that bit!

  • This was christmas 1978. The Dr Who clip features Mary Tamm who was only in it for 1 season 1978-79.

  • @alanc71 the clip might have been from 1978 but this compilation was part of the 1979 Christmas Tape.

  • im sure thats michael melia who played eddie royle in eastenders at 0.35

  • this was the best thing ive ever seen so so funny

  • Sorry... they showed this on Christmas Eve in 1979? Somebody looking into the camera and saying "you're a cunt, you're a cunt"?? Haha, amazing.

  • @feckingbillgates no it wasn't intended for broadcast

  • @northernanorak I know they're outtakes, and as such didn't make their way into the original programmes they're outtakes from, but the BBC still seemingly broadcast these, complete with the phrase "you're a cunt, you're a cunt", as the Christmas Tape in 1979. Or am I wrong?

  • @feckingbillgates The Christmas Tape itself was never broadcast - they were made for the amusement of the BBC staff only

  • @northernanorak Ah, okay. Got it now, thanks!

  • @northernanorak I wish BBC America would telecast these tapes but i bet they are nothing but memory given due to the erased random episodes of Dr Who and also erased the nearly the pre mid 1970s episodes of TOTP

  • Sue Lawley! Wash yer mouth out lass!

  • I loved this, thank you for the upload of this rare inside gem. I'm happy I'm old enough to remember when telly was good.

  • Who are the BBC announcefrs featured in this clip at the end , when he says "THis is BBC 2, no, BBC One" and the one on the blue globe ident?

  • @fraserkatie I think it's just one announcer, plus Kenny Everett.

  • and this is the main gate. LOL! Bloody heck I love britain.

  • @daveghaxton Yes.

  • Was this from the Kenny Everett video show?

  • @lesterroberts1 no - this was a not-for-broadcast "Christmas Tape", made by the VT dept for the entertainment of themselves and the rest of the TV industry. Everett did bits for it, as did the likes of Noel Edmonds and Michael Crawford.

  • "I hope you enjoy your new whelk...argh...FUCK!" :)

  • Who's the girl with her tit out at 3:22?

  • sue lawley does not know what the F***k she is doing lol!!

great to see my old frank at the end

    great stuff thanks for posting

  • These were made by the VT (Video tape) dept which is featured quite a lot . I had the original tapes given to me by a friend who was a technical manager in the BBC VT dept

I had to leave them back in NZ, but was fortunate enough to find the complete 78 and 79 files on winmx

  • Sue Lawley saying the f word. Shock horror

  • I was only 7 months old on Xmas Eve 1980.

  • 1:58 "OOHHHHH FOR FUCKS SAKE!"

  • Absolute gem! Laughed right through this. thanks!

  • Am I right in saying that these tapes were only circulated within the bbc and they were put together as a 'christmas treat' for staff only, I seem to remember the rumours about these years ago.

  • Very true. There was a bit of a controversy when the 1978 tape, which had a sketch about Princess Anne, got into the hands of the Sunday People, who proceeded to turn it into a bit of a scandal.

  • That was great man....

Thanks for posting and Have a Merry Christmas Northern fella.....

  • Hah

I love the Sue Lawley one lol

  • We've got this videotape! Brilliant!

  • this is a gem thanks for posting

  • I like the opening to this and the music. Think I may even remember it (I was 6). Christmas menus were quite exciting when you were a kid!

  • I find it very shocking that such respectful presenters such as Sue Lawley, Bob Wellings and Frank Bough would use such bad language in this clip....

  • Hmm, terrible, yes...

  • Don't forget Frank Bough's extra-curricuar activities in the 80s! He wasn't quite the cheery family friendly face we saw on telly!

  • i was fucking shocked as well. those fucking presenters should be dropped by the fucking bbc for using such profane langauge.

  • why they dont tell simply BLOODY ?

  • tHIS IS HILARIOUS! I'M Puerto Rican but I love British culutre and TV.

    A+++++++++

mERRY Christmas and a happy new year! Puerto Rican Love from NYC

  • Thank you. Have a great christmas 09 in a few months!

  • Also this ident appears that it was the real one in 1974 and but a different ident was used for BBC1 in that year if someone posts it on here and due to Kenny Everett putting his slight touches to 'Good King Memorex' and new-wave background music.

  • I hope he continues acting

  • You mean his alive today?

  • Yes - he's currently 66, according to Wikipedia.

  • Are you sure Michael Crawford

is still alive? He is a funny when i

laugh in the end of the video

  • As far as I know he is

  • On the end of the video

    who is this guy?

I very funny this video... It makes

me laugh on this video :D I hope you have

    many bloopers videos on BBC

  • It's Michael Crawford. He's in character as Frank Spencer of Some Mothers Do 'Ave 'Em

  • My favourite part is the Beryl Reid show- "oh shit"!

  • Good to see this year,s X factor winners getting work over Christmas at the start of this clip.

  • That was quality....very funny.

  • Very funny...

  • Heh, heh - funny as f**k! Hearing the likes of Sue Lawley, Terry Wogan and Magnus Magnusson swearing just made it even funnier - well, you don't expect to hear it, do you? Slightly ironic that this TV schedule is better than the dross they put on at Christmas now, eh?

  • found that clip now this is amazing stuff

  • ha ha great stuff im sure i watched the whole video of this years ago there were loads of out takes in it. it was called bbc vt but the video was like 2 or more hours long with a play school clip in where the presenter sings 1 button wont do the wind up do up to ive looked for that on here but cant see it unless any 1 else have found it that is. but these clips are fantastic.

  • this was ripped off from another youtube acct this was a joke reel for local BBC-ers and not intented for broadcast taken from blooper reels, etc.

  • It is a blooper reel, which the tags make abundently clear.

It was absolutely not ripped from another YouTube account, it was taken from a video file of the whole thing which I acquired. I look forward to your apology for libelling me :)

  • ok maybe his was a rip of yours... for that I do apologize then

  • :)

I think the other copy I've seen was a slightly different edit, probably taken from somebody else's copy of it!

  • is that the waldorf salad fawlty towers?

  • Indeed, it is.

  • "And this *is* a piece of goodwill..."

  • lol Sue Lawley saying fk....lol

  • yes, that was funny. well done.

  • I am actually crying with laughter as I type this! Great stuff.

  • I love it.... :~)

  • If only...??? Ha! Ha! Ha! Love it!

  • Also, why can't we see WPC, GKM and Flash Frames *in full* on YouTube? Someone must have these tapes somewhere, ready to be transposed...

  • I have this tape - my favourite clips are with the Dalek, Multicoloured Swapshop (which is on my profile) & the clip which immediately follows the end of this - the biggest boobs are on the BBC.

  • I very much doubt language like that (fuck and bollocks) was on telly in 1979.

  • no... the point which you have so comprehensively managed to miss is that this was the VT Dept's Christmas Tape which contained lots of outtakes, and was intended for internal consumption only

  • We had something similar to this in the US as well, but often would be pretty secretive and not too many outside the industry would've knew about them unless they weren't made public sooner or later (like bloopers for TV shows or newscasts and such).

  • Have you got more? That was great! :-D

  • amazing! PIEce of history! thanks for posting!

    chipz

  • they swear over nothing

  • Do you know, I agree with this; a lot of the swearing on this tape is *very* unconvincing! Indeed, Pamela Stephenson (on a later BBC Christmas tape) cracked a joke - in mock frustration - that some people were cursing on camera just to make it onto the next Christmas tape. I suspect this had a ring of truth about it. Still, a real shame those killjoys running Auntie decided to put a stop to it all circa 1982-3.

  • Is there any chance of you uploading the previous year's one that you said about with Michael Crawford and Kenneth Kendall?

  • I'll have another look at it, but to be honest I'm struggling to remember any of it that was particularly funny as a short clip - the humour (apart from the outtakes) was more subtle in "White Powder Christmas". Good King Memorex was much much better

  • LMFAO!! xD

  • Damn, that's a good quality copy you got here. Where you'd get it? Don't tell me UKNova, since I still can't seem to get signed-up there. :-(

(I miss out on a lot!)

  • Indeed, a much better copy than mine (which cuts off after the Dalek segment, alas) -- especially as mine's on a VHS tape since about 1984 so must be really horrible by now. I liked the "Edit Suite Two" parody of "Run-Around Sue".

  • Perhaps yours could be better than mine on that note (my copy though I got off Bit Torrent as an MPEG-2 and even then it's a crappy capture as whomever did it apparently didn't have a good device to capture from, and it resulted in a lot of dropped frames in the vid.

  • LOL at Dr. Who

  • The Michael Crawford bit is, ironically, an outtake from the previous year's Christmas Tape, in which he is in character as Frank Spencer alongside newsreader Kenneth Kendall.

  • They've missed Noel Edmonds at the end too, he also has a BBC One jumper like Michael Crawford!

  • They're great! Very funny!

Wish they still did them! But that was back in the day!

  • Haha :D

  • Very funny, where is it taken from?

  • Every year the BBC VT Dept used to produce a Christmas Tape which contained a combination of cockups and specially recorded spoofs etc and was intended for internal consumption and sharing with other broadcasters like ITV companies, but in recent years they've found their way onto the net.

There are several other items from this tape which others have posted, they're in Related and have the BBC VT logo in the corner easily visible on the thumbnails.
