How to restore your computer with command prompt

thanks you save my laptop i was worried as hell. i couldnt log into mine so i hit f8 when it was starting up and went into safe mode command prompt then type in the command and follow the steps and it worked because i was trying to install a theme and that crazp messed me up lol

Omg dude thanks sooooo much, I almost ruined my computer today doing something stupid -.-' that caused my cp to not be able to load up the desktop, thank god I could go into safe mode with the command prompt and type in this. It also works for windows 7 :]

@chrisco415 its the restore application in the windows sys32 files, it allows you to open up the restore app when you enter it in the command prompt.

@chrisco415 hmm well idk wat OS your using, that could be factor, but you should be able to type it in the command prompt and press Enter, then it'll load up. Or you might not have had a restore point, or that files corrupted, or missing. Should be located in the in the local disk C then go to Windows then System 32 folder, scroll down till you find the rstrui and click on it and it should start up. That's all I can tell ya.

with any vista account after the main set up it will ask you to make a back up CD if you said no to it then you can make one in the settings but if you have not maid one then you cant restore it. the only thing you can do is try the last known good configuration by holding down F8 when your computer is loading and choosing the "option last known good configuration" then choose a date before you reset it and then your setting should be back but i cant say anything about the files.

@jrjtuber if you have vista and a toshiba laptop satilite you could simply do it through the boot options press F2 then select the one on the very top and it should give you some options and just use factory default settings and your pc should be brand new unless you got artifacts on the screen lol

system restore does not BOOT your computer it takes it back to a certain point in time when it was good i want everything removed system restore won't do noting.

TIP:if you have Firefox you can try typing in

"firefox.exe" in run

to get to run you click ctrl+alt+delete and then

click on file run and your there
