All those games you mentioned that were block busters were pieces of shit and I didn't buy any of them, Borderlands was my blockbuster hit so again you don't know shit.

Number 1; the story is good if you play Borderlands like any true rpg should be played, side quests main quests, and just messing around. Number 2; although the game is also a single player game, it's meant to be played with friends. Borderlands is a social game that also adds the rpg aspect to a fps game. Playing this game as a hardcore gamer is fun but way more enjoyable playing with your friends. Good review other than these opinions of mine that by far differ from yours.

Hmm... While I can agree with parts of this review, I have to go against a few points.. 1st, I was able to beat the entire game within 22 hours, that being playthrough 1 and 2. (O.K., it wasn't my first character but still)
As for the ending... It is explained if you listen.. sort of. But the story is mostly about the journey to the vault. (also their are some hilarious side quests to do)
Mothrakk is the hardest fucking boss ever. I was level 26 when i took the mission btw its a level 21 mission. When i finaly beat him after 15-20 min i walked across his body from one wing to another... it took me 10-15 seconds.
@HeyDanHere you can run to the catch-a-ride and hide there and peek out to shoot mothrakk. i always end up doing that because it works better than anything else for me.
do you need a good story in order to play football? or how about poker or magic the gathering? shouldn't a video game be about the gameplay and how fun it is? you dont need a compelling story to have fun with a game.(i thought borderlands was crap anyways)
This game wasn't so hard. I think that as long as you do the side quests as you get them before jumping into the "story" missions it stays at the perfect difficulty.
I love this game always have I didn't think eridian weapons wer up to par though btw there are 3 playthroughs last one called 2.5 only get if u did every side quest.

there is rumors of a sequal but i really hope it gets a customizable arena for 2+ players (or at least more of a vs aspect), a better plot, more vehicles (maybe flying vehicles and boards to add to boss fights), individual melee weapons, a mode with realistic range & damage (still with the decreased level aspect), minigames, an accurate skill tree starting with 3 choices (before you could jump a skill ahead), and custom weapons and armor... BUT i don't know where you send in idess please help

Im not that great at FPS to be honest. But Borderlands is a game i could easily get into...And im not sure what u mean bout grinding cause i honestly didnt notice any of that ( saying that after getting a few 99 skill capes while playing Runescape a few yrs bk.. that was grinding!). Also i didnt find the game to bad playing solo.. It got a bit harder during the second playthrough tho n i think my sniper dude only made it to lv 47...
i totally agree with the extreme difficulty when the enemy is only 1 or 2 levels higher, its even harder when you are playing with somebody who's a higher lever, the lower levels just have to sit back because its impossible.

sorry one more comment.... but higher lvls (1 or 2 lvls) don't usually destroy me... u should never use a sniper against higher lvls not enough damage for the rate of fire. use a pistol, shotgun, CR, etc. sure u gotta get closer but its not hard snipers aren't really good in this game at all though but tip, don't use a sniper
Yeah Borderlands was an experiment, that's why it's story was so vague and empty. Because they focused more on the mechanics and co-op capability. My hope is they really expand on that in the sequel.
They should make a game where you can make your own world, make your own story plot, where you have the perfectly challenging enemies, etc. THAT would have some fucking replay value.
I loved Borderlands, and I HATE video games! I was hooked right away by the RPG aspects that have been to long in coming. Games like Halo are no better than Wolfenstein to me, just playing them is grinding. Another thing that you fail to mention, which was also a big factor in making Street Fighter 4 a success, was cell shading. The graphics and the incentive of leveling up are what made it for me. I have to agree with you for the most part though, THE END SUCKED!
A 2 round corrosive revolver was DSPs weapon of choice? There is so much variation to this game it's over whelming. I've been playing this game hardcore for the past week and have made it to LV32. I still use this incendiary magnum I got around level 13 because although it does just 50 damage, it BURNS HARD. If an enemy is a fleshy badass, I shoot them until they catch fire, then switch to a rifle and destroy it. My EPIC purple class magnum from hell has a 3.0 scope on it too. Way too crazy
@EdwarioERS well you know some weapons just click. ive found some very good guns but i barely used them because i didnt like the way it handled. but i agree there isnt much variety besides gun stats. =]
i honestly can't wait for borderlands 2, its really an innovative game, DSP should really consider the dlc released right now. especially with friends. I love the fucking amazing weapons, modders just fuck it up in public online play.
To be honest, the story was supposed to be full fledged. This changed when the graphic change overhaul happened. But, what's cool is that the world is just great to see what you can make up story-wise. I wish they hadn't changed the graphics it would have been cool to have a total open world/no load screens and roll across the desert in you ride-In my dreams lolz

@ahnilator123 The Destroyer was to easy man i found a glitch where i just have to go behind one of those arches and stay behind it and just shoot his legs, he won't do shit to you throughout the whole fight the last boss was a fail period sledge was alot harder.
I grinded up 3 levels just to do a mission and it said it would be Trivial so I went to the place killed 5 guys walked ahead found two machine gun turrets and died so much I just couldn't win,also I have to use the special attack just to kill or hurt a boss which I hated.
i agree because i preorder moderen warfare 2 because it looked pretty great and my next choice was assassin creed 2 and borderlands my tactic was to take cover against higher level enemies and just start spraying.
I liked your review, but i wouldn't call the game original. It didn't even try to hide the fact that it was copying blizzard on its addicting looting system with its obvious WoW like achievements.
And other than that, it was only different from most FPS shooters because it had no drama to it and it took forever to kill enemies.
unforgiving; it requires a well thought-out strategy even for standard enemies and punishes every little mistake, that's why I love it, it feels old school. And it has an intriguing (if conventional) story, great characters, an amazing sense of scale, and a really dark, grim, foreboding atmosphere; you really get the sense that you're going up against forces that are way beyond your league. It`s a great game. IWhen it comes to grinding, I must say I hate that in games like WoW, but in borderlands, even though I am grinding, it doesn`t feel like I am doing that. Cause the game deliver interesting loot all the time, which makes it funny to just run around searhing for an even better weapon. Singleplayer is a blast as well!
@WalkableInk He knows that, as does everyone, but the issue stands, if you are going to ask for one game for Christmas, chances are it would be MW2 and not Borderlands back then
The reason they probably made the bosses so god damn hard is because they want you to play with friends. They want you go out into the online world and make new friends and meet new people. I was about 4-5 levels above Sledge when I fought him, and he was still a pain in the ass. As soon as I learned a few tricks, i.e. the Second Hurricane, people like him became much easier.
hey phil if you are into RPGs or MMORPGs pick up a copy of guild wars its awesome a great story and no subscription fee you just buy it and play it and buying a pack with all 4 campaigns you get extra shit for free and all 4 of em are life 20 dollars i think (my currency is euro's)

I think borderlands wasn't really the best fitting game for you since you play such a broad range of games per year but if your like me who plays maybe 3-5 games a year its a really really fun game but i agree with everything you said pretty much and i hope they add more story to borderlands 2 which is pretty much going to happen based on sales also the new dlc's where really great so id try those out if you ever have time

sorry one more comment.... but higher lvls (1 or 2 lvls) don't usually destroy me... u should never use a sniper against higher lvls not enough damage for the rate of fire. use a pistol, shotgun, CR, etc. sure u gotta get closer but its not hard snipers aren't really good in this game at all though but tip, don't use a sniper

Yeah Borderlands was an experiment, that's why it's story was so vague and empty. Because they focused more on the mechanics and co-op capability. My hope is they really expand on that in the sequel.

I loved Borderlands, and I HATE video games! I was hooked right away by the RPG aspects that have been to long in coming. Games like Halo are no better than Wolfenstein to me, just playing them is grinding. Another thing that you fail to mention, which was also a big factor in making Street Fighter 4 a success, was cell shading. The graphics and the incentive of leveling up are what made it for me. I have to agree with you for the most part though, THE END SUCKED!

A 2 round corrosive revolver was DSPs weapon of choice? There is so much variation to this game it's over whelming. I've been playing this game hardcore for the past week and have made it to LV32. I still use this incendiary magnum I got around level 13 because although it does just 50 damage, it BURNS HARD. If an enemy is a fleshy badass, I shoot them until they catch fire, then switch to a rifle and destroy it. My EPIC purple class magnum from hell has a 3.0 scope on it too. Way too crazy

i honestly can't wait for borderlands 2, its really an innovative game, DSP should really consider the dlc released right now. especially with friends. I love the fucking amazing weapons, modders just fuck it up in public online play.

To be honest, the story was supposed to be full fledged. This changed when the graphic change overhaul happened. But, what's cool is that the world is just great to see what you can make up story-wise. I wish they hadn't changed the graphics it would have been cool to have a total open world/no load screens and roll across the desert in you ride-In my dreams lolz

and the AI of this game is horrible,
when u shoot at someone from a fucking long distance, they will shoot u right away like they knew u were there
the enemies all look the same, but they can fucking own you if they're only a few levels above you.. when u own the very same bandits that are of lower lvls
and the ending just pissed me off
i thought i was gonna get the loots in the vault!
but the best thing about this game is that u can coop with ur friends, no wonder phil hates this game

@ahnilator123 The Destroyer was to easy man i found a glitch where i just have to go behind one of those arches and stay behind it and just shoot his legs, he won't do shit to you throughout the whole fight the last boss was a fail period sledge was alot harder.

I grinded up 3 levels just to do a mission and it said it would be Trivial so I went to the place killed 5 guys walked ahead found two machine gun turrets and died so much I just couldn't win,also I have to use the special attack just to kill or hurt a boss which I hated.

i agree because i preorder moderen warfare 2 because it looked pretty great and my next choice was assassin creed 2 and borderlands my tactic was to take cover against higher level enemies and just start spraying.

I liked your review, but i wouldn't call the game original. It didn't even try to hide the fact that it was copying blizzard on its addicting looting system with its obvious WoW like achievements.
And other than that, it was only different from most FPS shooters because it had no drama to it and it took forever to kill enemies.

unforgiving; it requires a well thought-out strategy even for standard enemies and punishes every little mistake, that's why I love it, it feels old school. And it has an intriguing (if conventional) story, great characters, an amazing sense of scale, and a really dark, grim, foreboding atmosphere; you really get the sense that you're going up against forces that are way beyond your league. It's just an overall great package, and since you're a hardcore gamer I know you can handle the punishment

what your saying is ok but like in warcraft a level 73 shouldn't be able to take out a level 80 so the point your comming from is basicly saying that a level 26 should be able to beat a 28 because i don't like the chalange of fighting to reach them to be able to have a fighting chance.

It`s a great game. IWhen it comes to grinding, I must say I hate that in games like WoW, but in borderlands, even though I am grinding, it doesn`t feel like I am doing that. Cause the game deliver interesting loot all the time, which makes it funny to just run around searhing for an even better weapon. Singleplayer is a blast as well!

The reason they probably made the bosses so god damn hard is because they want you to play with friends. They want you go out into the online world and make new friends and meet new people. I was about 4-5 levels above Sledge when I fought him, and he was still a pain in the ass. As soon as I learned a few tricks, i.e. the Second Hurricane, people like him became much easier.

I think borderlands wasn't really the best fitting game for you since you play such a broad range of games per year but if your like me who plays maybe 3-5 games a year its a really really fun game but i agree with everything you said pretty much and i hope they add more story to borderlands 2 which is pretty much going to happen based on sales also the new dlc's where really great so id try those out if you ever have time

One thing i dont get, quiet early on in skag gully, where you find them 2 data recorder things and you cant hear anything - whats that all about. And why just randomly add eridien weapons, i dont get it.
